Hopefully the LCD touch screen starts working for you. Kinda sounds like between the 4 Black and 4 Silver that GoPro has a few bugs to iron out. Maybe the latest firmware updates will fix it.

Regarding the touch screen: If you're going to post a product review, you may want to be familiar with the device you're reviewing. Not knowing how to activate the touch screen for use, and then calling the camera "buggy" is inexcusable. Could've been corrected in editing. Also, as far as the "no excuse for not having a touch screen on the Hero4 Black" : Apparently, the heat generated by the higher-powered processor required for 4k resolution in the Black edition would render an LCD screen inoperable.
Good point, but if you're bothered to be criticizing the guy can't you be a bit more positive and tell us how to unlock the touch screen for those don't know how?
Hold your finger on the screen for a moment, then after the lock icon pulls up slide down to unlock position. I appreciate him doing a review. I just thought he could've been familiar with the lcd first.
Keith Collins still only seems to work when it wants to, once it works, its all good. then i turn off the cam and it doesnt work when turned back on. Then in a min or two, it works. Frustrated.
Ya the silver has a LCD touch screen but most the time we have the camera on a pole, helmet, or car. The few times that you would use the LCD screen you could just use a smartphone or tablet. Plus the battery won't be drained out of the camera as fast. GoPro Hero 4 Black for me!
Ahor Vashum if you have the LCD screen on and recording, it will run out of battery after 1 hour 55 mins. But if you have the LCD screen off and recording, it will run out of battery after 2 hours. So hardly any difference
Just for anyone who was wondering why the Hero 4 silver does NOT shoot 4k at 30fps but the black does, is because of the touch screen itself being able to shoot for 4k at 30 FPS creates too much heat for the touchscreen to safely function at.

I wouldn't miss the touch screen on the Black Edition.. Bought a bacpac for my first HD Hero, used it one time. Ofc it wasn't touch, but still have 3 generations and newer used it..

I just bought the hero4 silver but I'm a little confused as to what resolution to shoot videos at. Would you say in general just shoot at 1080p 60fps for POV and action vids and for like stiller videos 4k at 15fps? A video explaining all the different resolutions would be super helpful.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but for the same price of the Hero 4 Silver, one could get the Hero 3+ Black, that also comes with the dive housing (60 bucks) and the wireless remote (80 bucks?).. Wouldn't that make the Hero 3+ Black a better deal?
Thanks for the previous vid. Is it possible for you to do a vod of two GoPro 4 silvers mounted side by side and review a video shoot of one cam recording in in 2.7k and tbe other 4k. Test subjects would incude night, day and under water recording. I am primarily interested in the 2.7 and 4k modes under water with fast moving in the background. Ohh, so if you press that button once, it shows you what your camera sees. And when you press and hold - it unlocks it for you to make changes and stuff? That seems like a clever solution to me: this must prevent unwanted touches and changes
Got the Silver precisely because of the little screen. I also have an Osmo and I am not happy always having to keep my iphone connected just so that I can see what I am actually shooting at. I't worked so far, though I've just got it today.

Looking to treat myself to my first go pro, is there much difference in spec between the hero 4 silver and hero 4 black ? pricewise in the UK its £40 difference. from what I have see, researched the only differences are is that the silver records 4k at 15fps whereas the balck records 4k at 30fps, and the silver has the touchscreen but the black does not. have I missed anything ? or any other differences with regards to spec ? thanks

The Hero 3 and 4 look to be the same....all messed up! I love my 3+ Black Edition. Looks like you will have to wait for the Hero 4+ to have a normal working camera again. Glad I am happy and keeping my 3+ Black Edition. :)

THe reason that the Black has no screen is that it becomes very warm when shooting in 4K at 30 fps. According to GoPro, it would cause the screen to malfunction. You can also still get a BakPak screen for the Black.

Honestly get the hero 4 black. Later in life you will want to do really good slow motion effects and get the best quality. Why have decent quality when u can have the best. Go big or go home. You will later want the better camera. Trust me
You can buy a wifi remote, it has a shutter button and a power button, as well as a small screen that mirrors the screen on the camera Btw, I mean the small screen in the front, not the one in the back that shows what the GoPro sees There is also something called Removu, it's a screen (not sold by GoPro) and I don't have one, but it's pretty much a screen that shows what the GoPro sees, as well as a shutter and power button You can also get the GoPro app, it allows you to assess the settings, screen, buttons, and stored videos and pictures on your GoPro I have the Hero 3+, with the LED Screen, but I prefer to watch my videos on the GoPro app You should definitely get a GoPro, but if you drop it in water without a case on for even a second, it's pretty much dead right away, but if you have its case on, it can survive basically anything I hope this helps you with your decision

Yeah, plenty of people mount it in their vehicles to do timelapses of road trips and what not. I probably wouldn't use it as a replacement for a dashcam, but for a roadtrip timelapse it's cool to take photos every few seconds and then compile them into a video to show the whole trip.
im about to buy the Gopro Hero 4 Silver, and I've seen many reviews where people complain about the camera constantly freezing, and also problems with the LCD not responding of just completely not working. I think you should just get the hero for silver because when the five ever comes out it's going to be probably twice as much as the four as it is now if you wait a few months after that the price will go down also when the price does go down you can also get it even cheaper off Groupon.com:) my honesty
thanks for the unboxing video, it verified that i have a defective unit. I just unboxed mines the lcd screen doesn't display anything the lens sees other than the numbers on the top and bottom of the screen, also it freezes up after pressing the menu button, after that the touchscreen or buttons don't work. your touchscreen is defective because mines does respond, again after selecting something from the options it freezes. POS!!

The reason they didn't include a screen on the Hero4 Black is because of the heat it produced. It got to the point where it got too hot and destroyed the camera. Plus I think if they had a screen on it, then no one would buy the Silver.
I am thinking of getting a GoPro hero 4 session but when I watched this video, I am now not sure what to get, I chose the session bec. It was cheaper but is the silver worth the it
The only thing that I can recommend is that the GoPro session has no screen and can't be just mounted on the chest or head, on the other hand the GoPro hero 4 silver can be mounted on your chest and head ect.... But also another great thing about the silver and not the session is that the silver has a screen for viewing the stuff you are videoing

You have to hold down on the screen, then it should say "To unlock screen slide the orange circle to the lock and hold" :)

Keep a finger stationary and hold it on the screen for a few seconds. This will unlock the screen and the swipe and touch functions will work.

OMG SAME! I just got it in the mail an hour ago and mine was tilted at an angle which made the screw impossibly hard to remove

I don't think the LCD screen would be capable of supporting 4K video and that's what GoPro is really wanting you to use the black edition for.

yes the standard housing affects the touch response, that is why you need to put on the waterproof touch screen housing on that it comes with

I know this is noobish but, when you turned it on and off, can it pause and go straight back to the video??
the screen comes locked so you have to swipe the tab on the far left of the screen out and then hold down the lock

yes. You do need to put it inside the housing and buy your own microSD card.

I have a gopro hero 4 silver and it has no problems at all !
It could be a problem if you order it online and something happens with the box I'm guessing

I think you should just get the hero for silver because when the five ever comes out it's going to be probably twice as much as the four as it is now if you wait a few months after that the price will go down also when the price does go down you can also get it even cheaper off Groupon.com:) my honesty

thanks for the unboxing video, it verified that i have a defective unit. I just unboxed mines the lcd screen doesn't display anything the lens sees other than the numbers on the top and bottom of the screen, also it freezes up after pressing the menu button, after that the touchscreen or buttons don't work.
your touchscreen is defective because mines does respond, again after selecting something from the options it freezes. POS!!

touch the screen for 2 seconds with your finger stationary and it'll unlock and then you can use the swipe and touch functions

The reason they didn't include a screen on the Hero4 Black is because of the heat it produced. It got to the point where it got too hot and destroyed the camera. Plus I think if they had a screen on it, then no one would buy the Silver.
I am thinking of getting a GoPro hero 4 session but when I watched this video, I am now not sure what to get, I chose the session bec. It was cheaper but is the silver worth the it
The only thing that I can recommend is that the GoPro session has no screen and can't be just mounted on the chest or head, on the other hand the GoPro hero 4 silver can be mounted on your chest and head ect.... But also another great thing about the silver and not the session is that the silver has a screen for viewing the stuff you are videoing
