I think that Doom Metal is in unmatched in music for simply how MASSIVE it sounds. Like a great, lumbering colossus, trudging across the land. Very few other genres capture that sense of scale as effectively as Doom does.
Yeah. I think that's why I like it. I don't find death metal as heavy for that reason even if the aggression is less present in doom compared to other subgenres
Same i don't really like most other metal genres because of the lack of heavyness and atmosphere i think most other metal is more noisy then heavy like metalcore doom hits you in the gut and ads psychedelic which i also love
Maybe its because deep, rumbling sounds/notes give it the "fullness"? Personally, i hate songs that are just high-pitched. Whenever im able to hone in on a base in a song and follow it, it really changes the way i see that song. I kinda dislike drowned out base, i am always glad whenever i at least know its there. Now for the tempo, it doesnt work out for me too often, a few times when i came home absolutely sh.tfaced and fell asleep to some music to distract me from the spinning world, Doom metal was really great for falling asleep instead of vomiting.

I think doom probably has the same appeal as grunge in that you can only make things so much louder, harder, and faster before that gets boring too. Slowing things back down keeps it interesting IMO
I love Doom so much. Definitely recommend Electric Wizard "Funeralopolis", Pallbearer is a huge one for me I would start with their Foundations of Burden album. Thou/The Body's "The wheel Weaves as the Wheel Wills" is absolutely soul crushing. Shrinebuilder's self-titled album is great stoner doom, I got recc'd it at a YOB concert 10 years ago, and in the vein of stoner Bongzilla, Bongripper, and Weedeater especially are great. Speaking of, YOB is my highest recommend as they are my ultimate doom band. When I heard YOB's "Marrow" live my perception of music was changed forever. Also "Beauty in Fallen Leaves" but really the entire Clearing the Path to Ascend album is a must listen to any doom-prospectives out there. Please I cannot shill YOB enough if you read this go fucking listen now.
I would recommend Stream of the Heavens by Thergothon and Mirror Reaper by Bell Witch. Not strictly doom, more like Black Metal but i still like recommending Drawing Down the Moon by Beherit.
Saw them with Bell Witch years ago.. I got higher than bird pussy and felt like the guitar/bass tones and wide intervals between kick drum and snare hits were making me levitate off the ground. Twas trippy.

I love death doom but there must be something about it that is restricting or shallow because a lot of bands I like that started out making death doom moved away from it after an album or two. (Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Anathema, Katatonia)
YOB is an incredible Doom band. It’s unlike anything that I’ve heard before. It’s got clean vocals, screaming, slow tempos, fast tremolo, finger picking, cosmic influences, and guitars tuned to A standard. A more brutal band recommendation is Conan. Conan tunes to F which is absolutely ridiculously insane.
Awesome. Pentagram is such a good doom metal band and metal band in general. I also would've included Witchfinder General. You can just hear the Paranoid era of Sabbath in their song's. Probably the most overlooked when talking about the scene they were very much a part of.
I really enjoy the fact that you fuck with popular culture, it keeps the videos extremely hilarious while making sure the humor doesn’t become out of touch.
I like doom metal, but I am also a stoner whom is into the occult and macabre, and also the traditional British 1960s folk, and early 70s prog. So Uncle Acid and Blood Ceremony are my two favourites of the contemporary scene. They're damn perfect and their riffs are wicked af. When I want something heavier, I prefer early Burzum, Mayhem, and Darkthrone. Yes, I am Norwegian.
I'll never forget when I first heard the opening riff of Sleep's The Dragonaut, that shit did amazing things to my brain and it still does even to this day.
Sumphonaire infernos et spear imperium by My Dying Bride is godlike. That and their first full album are just magnificent. Then theyreleasedTurn Loose the Swans and it was all over. Worst of goth, worst of metal etc… But their first few eps and album… best Doom ever imho

Doom metal is the perfect genre to listen to in mid-February, when the end of winter is still weeks away and feels endless. Everything is so wonderfully gloomy, it matches the music like nothing else.

I assume most people watching this have heard OM. If not I highly suggest them. Members come from the stoner/doom band sleep, OM is more stoner/doom adjacent and a better genre name would be spiritual doom metal. The difference is that death metal is more about embracing the dark side coming sometimes from people that have never done these things irl and “some” people that hurt themselves for publicity, Doom metal is about actually having experienced these things first hand and for the most part sharing their first hand experiences with black magic and freak accidents and war, like like the first Black Sabbath recording aptly named Black Sabbath being preforming black magic rituals and paying the price for it, more specifically, about geezer butler seeing a depiction of satan sitting off the end of his bed during sleep paralysis after doing a dark ritual before hand, these is more emphasized when you hear ozzy’s lyric “Satan sitting there, he’s smiling” and you hear a sense of dread and absolute fear in his voice during the whole thing, it’s expressing fear from a first hand account rather than embracing purely for clout

I have never understood people that claim Iommi detuned and show Black Sabbath and Paranoid as examples. Those two albums were on E standard, he detuned from Master of Reality onwards and even that album has songs on E standard

One of my current favorite bands is Eremit. Not sure if it’s pure doom but it’s definitely doom laden. And if you want long songs Eremit has them. Their newest album Wearer of Many Forms opens with a song that runs for 1:03:47 and then continues after that song for another hour.
Love Bell Witch, didn't realise that was Funeral Doom. I only know of the genre because my friend is a Death Metal Musician, and he shared some stuff with me a couple of years ago. I'd also seen pics from a festival he was at of the band dressed like a funeral procession. (was from finfest 2020, I think)
i dunno if this would be considered more doomy or not but Cross Purposes by Black Sabbath, its one of their more later obscurer albums yet one of my absolute favorites for how it combines both doom and heavy metal with Sabbath's sound since its mostly been heavy metal with the band from The Eternal Idol up to that point.
One time I played the full version of dopesmoker on a jukebox and it made my nephew cry after ab 15 minutes because he hated it so much

Metalheads are just terrified of E Standard and don't want to believe that anyone, even their heroes, could make legitimately heavy music using it.

One of my current favorite bands is Eremit. Not sure if it’s pure doom but it’s definitely doom laden.
And if you want long songs Eremit has them. Their newest album Wearer of Many Forms opens with a song that runs for 1:03:47 and then continues after that song for another hour.

Love Bell Witch, didn't realise that was Funeral Doom. I only know of the genre because my friend is a Death Metal Musician, and he shared some stuff with me a couple of years ago. I'd also seen pics from a festival he was at of the band dressed like a funeral procession. (was from finfest 2020, I think)

i dunno if this would be considered more doomy or not but Cross Purposes by Black Sabbath, its one of their more later obscurer albums yet one of my absolute favorites for how it combines both doom and heavy metal with Sabbath's sound since its mostly been heavy metal with the band from The Eternal Idol up to that point.
Grew up listening to Reverend Bizarre. One of my favorite subgenres for sure.
