    I think that Doom Metal is in unmatched in music for simply how MASSIVE it sounds. Like a great, lumbering colossus, trudging across the land. Very few other genres capture that sense of scale as effectively as Doom does.

      @keystep8669 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Yeah. I think that's why I like it. I don't find death metal as heavy for that reason even if the aggression is less present in doom compared to other subgenres

      Same i don't really like most other metal genres because of the lack of heavyness and atmosphere i think most other metal is more noisy then heavy like metalcore doom hits you in the gut and ads psychedelic which i also love

      Maybe its because deep, rumbling sounds/notes give it the "fullness"?
      Personally, i hate songs that are just high-pitched. Whenever im able to hone in on a base in a song and follow it, it really changes the way i see that song.
      I kinda dislike drowned out base, i am always glad whenever i at least know its there.
      Now for the tempo, it doesnt work out for me too often, a few times when i came home absolutely sh.tfaced and fell asleep to some music to distract me from the spinning world, Doom metal was really great for falling asleep instead of vomiting.

    I love Doom so much. Definitely recommend Electric Wizard "Funeralopolis", Pallbearer is a huge one for me I would start with their Foundations of Burden album. Thou/The Body's "The wheel Weaves as the Wheel Wills" is absolutely soul crushing. Shrinebuilder's self-titled album is great stoner doom, I got recc'd it at a YOB concert 10 years ago, and in the vein of stoner Bongzilla, Bongripper, and Weedeater especially are great.
    Speaking of, YOB is my highest recommend as they are my ultimate doom band. When I heard YOB's "Marrow" live my perception of music was changed forever. Also "Beauty in Fallen Leaves" but really the entire Clearing the Path to Ascend album is a must listen to any doom-prospectives out there. The difference is that death metal is more about embracing the dark side coming sometimes from people that have never done these things irl and “some” people that hurt themselves for publicity,
    Doom metal is about actually having experienced these things first hand and for the most part sharing their first hand experiences with black magic and freak accidents and war, like like the first Black Sabbath recording aptly named Black Sabbath being preforming black magic rituals and paying the price for it, more specifically, about geezer butler seeing a depiction of satan sitting off the end of his bed during sleep paralysis after doing a dark ritual before hand, these is more emphasized when you hear ozzy’s lyric “Satan sitting there, he’s smiling” and you hear a sense of dread and absolute fear in his voice during the whole thing, it’s expressing fear from a first hand account rather than embracing purely for clout

    I have never understood people that claim Iommi detuned and show Black Sabbath and Paranoid as examples. Those two albums were on E standard, he detuned from Master of Reality onwards and even that album has songs on E standard

    • @MagusMirificus
      @MagusMirificus ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Metalheads are just terrified of E Standard and don't want to believe that anyone, even their heroes, could make legitimately heavy music using it.

    I just came here because I just now listened to "without light, I Am" by Danzig- someone called it an example of Doom Metal.
    This is both what I did and didnt expect. Nice

    showing a picture of a guy with two tabs of acid on his tounge surrounding the kaaba and therefore the black meteor stone that´s glued to it while the term psychedelic rock is mentioned: you sir have a fine crafted sense of humour.

    One of my current favorite bands is Eremit. Not sure if it’s pure doom but it’s definitely doom laden.
    And if you want long songs Eremit has them. Their newest album Wearer of Many Forms opens with a song that runs for 1:03:47 and then continues after that song for another hour.

    Love Bell Witch, didn't realise that was Funeral Doom. I only know of the genre because my friend is a Death Metal Musician, and he shared some stuff with me a couple of years ago. I'd also seen pics from a festival he was at of the band dressed like a funeral procession. (was from finfest 2020, I think)

    i dunno if this would be considered more doomy or not but Cross Purposes by Black Sabbath, its one of their more later obscurer albums yet one of my absolute favorites for how it combines both doom and heavy metal with Sabbath's sound since its mostly been heavy metal with the band from The Eternal Idol up to that point.
