Years ago in South Korea there was a stage magician who would hypnotize people from the audience. The trigger phrase he used to put people back under his control was Red Sun. The most iconic performance of this song is the one from Webtoon Singer with Handong.
LOVE this song. This genre of music is something I never would have listened to before finding Dreamcatcher and it's probably in my top 15 songs of theirs. The vocals, Sua's choreography (her fist official choreography for a Dreamcatcher song, btw), and the looks/atmosphere give me chills every time I watch this and I've had to have seen it hundreds of times at this point.
This song never gets old 😊 Sua choreographed this btw 😎, if you couldn't tell by the sexy moves (body rolls, members frequently touching each other, etc) 😅 I think she said that the main move where they make circles with their finger was representing hypnotizing someone / putting him under a spell. For me, it worked 😋
It's FABULOUS! We just love Dreamcatcher! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. The finger circle move DOES seem like they are hypnotizing the viewer.
DREAMCATCHER [Apocalypse] 2022 World Tour in Seoul - Red Sun 😎💯❤🔥 ot7 + DIFFERENT LIVE BAND arrangement performance. And I'm confident that won't get blocked.
dreamcatcher \:D/ their special clips are basically low budget videos they do for many b-sides. most are very simple but there's still a lot of thought put into conveying the theme. red sun in essence conveys imho their central recurring theme - not giving up on your dreams, hence their name. this was built around their 'nightmare' series which uses tongue and cheek horror tropes to visualize what most consider nightmarish, but the real nightmare the series was describing was being trapped in situations beyond your control to the point you feel hopeless and losing grip of your dreams and yourself. since their songs do use lyrical input from the members, it was likely influenced by the rough transition they went through during minx.
Yes, Handong was away in China during that comeback. SCREAM and BOCA albums. She doesn't appear in the special clips Black or White, SAHARA, Break the Wall, and Red Sun.
But she was back for Odd Eye and the album that was on, and the Special Clip 'Poison Love' is such a great way to welcome her back to the group! I loved that so much! :)
Oh, thank you for clarifying that for us. We knew that she was not present for a time, but could not remember which MVs/performances/special clips that included. Thanks for the heads-up!
Oh, other recommendations for spooky season? 🤔 - Dreamcatcher. I mean, their whole concept is being a bit creepy, so all of their mv's qualify pretty much. I don't know how much of their NIGHTMARE series you've seen, but otherwise, I would recommend that. That series consists of the following mv's, in order: Chase Me Good Night Fly High You & I What Piri (Breaking Out) - Purple Kiss. Another group with a dark concept and great vocals. I recommend their songs: Ponzona Zombie Sweet Juice - Pixy. They also have a dark concept (fallen pixies). I recommend starting with: Wings - PinkFantasy. A group that sometimes included metal in their songs as well as dark imagery (skulls, altar, etc). I recommend: Fantasy (as a bit of a warm up) Poison Have fun!
These are awesome, thank you! A few viewers have recommended Purple Kiss, so we plan to get to them this weekend. But yes, we agree about Dreamcatcher's theme being a bit creepy. We do, however, LOVE their Nightmare series.
@hallyureviewsus You're welcome. It's always a little difficult what exactly "fits" Halloween. Does it mean it has to be creepy, or does it have to include dressing up, etc. For example, other recommendations would be: Red Velvet A 10 year old, 5 member girlgroup, with amazing vocals and, well, lots of other qualities. Otherwise, you wouldn't last that long 😅 But they often have music videos that are a little bit unsettling or creepy: - Peek-a-boo - Psycho - Russian Roulette Nature A girlgroup that unfortunately disbanded this year, after 6 years. But they did release a creepy, unsettling mv that even has an "uncensored version": - Girls Twice If we mean Halloween is about "dressing up" then I guess this song would also qualify: - TT (definitely not creepy though 😄)
@@crispychicken9298 I always recommend the Uncensored version to every ADULT that I want to see react to it. The censored version of the MV was SO CENSORED that the MV no longer made sense for the song. The censorship took the Art out of the MV. They completely neutered it, making it useless. Try watching the censored version after watching the Uncensored version, you will see what I mean. It's just 'meh' after seeing the real deal.
@@crispychicken9298 Yes, agreed, that is the ONE failing of that MV. I always suggest people watch that one first to get the visual story out of their system before they look at the lyrics. BUT one of my now-favorite reactors always checks out lyrics first. She calls herself 'neurodivergent' which I totally understand; she just works in a different mental path than most other people. I like that she is so different and checks lyrics first. But in this case, the visuals of 'Girls' need to be seen first. The censored version was such a failure to impress, which is not the group's fault at all; I lay the blame squarely and entirely on whoever decided to censor it into oblivion. Their control freak B.S. really ruined that MV. Good thing the Uncensored version still exists! But if people want the lyrics, then they do appear on the Censored version, right? I can't remember, it has been too long since I bothered with that one. The Uncensored version gets my attention every time. :D
"Professor" Kim Yeong-Guk was a famous 2000's TV persona, a quack hypnotist, who "hypnotized" his audiences. His catch phrase was "Red Sun". This was used by Dreamcatcher as the main concept in this song. There is an amazing 2023 remake of Red Sun, when Dreamcatcher participated in Webtoon Singer Ep.7, representing the Unholy Blood webtoon and making Red Sun its OST. The result the incredible Red Sun Vampire Version. Watch the Kep1er girls and the author Lina Lim being in awe: 🔗 th-cam.com/video/ZKgXV3o1O6Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YGv2t2ZBVP7KJuC0
All of their out-takes are so great! It really humanizes them, even for fans who already knew what crazy crack-heads these ladies are when they are not practicing (they take their practice sessions VERY seriously but in-between takes they are still adorable goofy Humans) or of course when performing songs. :D
A little background on the words “Red Sun". Copy-pasted from Ask a Korean blog: The origin of this phrase can be traced back to a single person: "professor" Kim Yeong-Guk. Since early 2000s, Kim touted his ability of inducing hypnosis, which according to him helps people retrace their former karmic lives, quit smoking, lose weight, concentrate better, cure depression, etc. Because of his TV appearances and celebrities who were willing to play along, Kim has been a C-level celebrity in Korea. In particular, his catchphrase has "red sun", which he yells (or firmly states) at the moment his "patient" is supposed to fall under hypnosis, accompanied with a mysterious hand gesture. If you have not caught onto this yet, the phrase does not really mean anything. Most Koreans rightly recognized this as hokey BS, but the catchphrase gained some traction in Korean pop culture and Internet memes. In a situation involving some form of hypnosis, this phrase sometimes makes an appearance.
Thank you so much for sharing with us the context of the phrase "red sun" in Korean culture. We LOVE comments like these. There is so much about Korean culture that we are learning through this channel and we are so appreciative! 😘
