William Adams: Much like many of the other characters in Nioh, the protagonist of the first game was a very real person. William Adams was born in 1564 in Gillingham, Kent, England. He served in the Royal Navy during the war with Spain. The prospect of trade peaked his interest, and joined a fleet of 5 ships to take a journey to South America in order to trade their cargo for precious silver. If the mission went badly, they were to go to Japan instead. This mission went horribly. The five ships were constantly attacked by pirates and locals, plagued by abysmal weather, and one of them was even destroyed by a Typhoon. Eventually, Adam's ship, the Liefde landed at Kyushu. Only nine out of the 100 initial crew reminded at landfall. They were immediately accused of being pirates, and sentenced to execution, along with all their cargo being confiscated. Some of the cannons were said to have been used at Sekigahara. The execution was not immediate, and Adams was questioned by Tokugawa Ieyasu several times during his imprisonment. During these meetings, he managed to impress Ieyasu with his knowledge of nautical life and shipbuilding, causing Ieyasu to revoke the execution order. He became a good friend of Tokugawa, and helped to construct the first western style ships Japan ever had at their disposal. He was given the title Muira Anjin "The Pilot of Muira." Eventually, he became the official interpreter of the Shogun. In recognition of his efforts (And because he found him too useful to let go of) Ieyasu gifted him two swords, cementing his status as the First Western Samurai. William marries a woman named Oyuki and had two children, Joseph and Susanna. After living a long life of 55 years and doing wonders for Japan's expansion of trade, William died in 1620 in Hirado, Kyushu. His son inherited the title of Anjin and followed in his father's footsteps as a great tradesman. Japan honored the First Western Samurai by naming two towns after his title, Anjin, as well as the Muira Anjin Festival in Ito, Shizuoka, held every year on the 10th of August.
@MC Cooper wall of text below but I enjoy the games combat, music is great, I love see younger versions of characters from the first game. Yet in my first post I did mention the word occasionally for a reason. This is not a Shakespeare story but a simple no, sure I'll help, and other simple lines. Would help convey emotions and help shape your character for why he is even doing the things he does in the story nioh is telling. William at least we knew what he wanted and how he was going to get to his goal. This nameless character has no motivations at the start. No real personality, he just helped someone to help them. Then goes out to do the first mission. Then he joins up with a character because... We don't know, no dialog or anything is had. He just tags along because and that because hurts him as a character. Now silent protagonists do have dialog in lots games or a choice of dialogs depending on which type of game. Games like elder scrolls, original fallout, hell most older rpgs are silent protags. It's just silent so you can dub it in your head for how you think your character should sound. That and limited space back in the day, plus it helps pull you into the game story that way. Shin megami tensei games are some of favorite game since I found them all those years ago for that reason. They are silent protagonist but how they handle what's happening is important and we see motivations for why they do things. In nioh 2 case the complete silent protag takes away from the game. Not even sure if he desires revenge after that one character dies in a cutscene. So him saying absolutely anything even if it's a no I won't help you. Would go along way in telling this characters role in the larger nioh 2 story line.
@MC Cooper for the type of game it is the first nioh had a good story. The second one in my opinion lacks the interaction so it appears to be less interesting. I'm not saying they need to debate morality or if the spirits are God's or something else after each cutscene. Just simple interactions would improve the game story it is telling since we don't have the ability to effect the story itself. If we had a choice in dialogs or consequences for our actions. I would fully agree the mc you play would not need a voice.
To see William in nioh 2 was like meeting an old friend again. A friend who wanted to see if you had the strength and conviction to carry on where others failed.
I'm okay with a silent character IF they do it like fallout or elder scrolls does it where u get a big dialogue box to actually have a conversation with someone A FULLY silent character ruins the story for me. Shit just happens to you and people have you know, people moments with you and you can't say shit or respond ever It blows

The Obsidian Samurai was quite young when we see him in Nioh 2, late twenties at the oldest. By the time we see him in Nioh 1, he's early to mid sixties. Not too uncommon to see in the 17'th century if one took care of their bodies.
The Hanzo in this game is the famous "Demon Hanzo" who you fought as a giant toad in Nioh 1, with that game's Hanzo being his son. Yasuke (the black samurai) was primarily active as one of Nobunaga's loyal retainers, he was an old man in Nioh 1 trying to revive Nobunaga.
I think the protagonist of nioh 2 slept for a long time after sealing the final boss. Long enough for William to finish his journey and by the time he woke up, William was already on a demon killing spree assuming that the protagonist of nioh 2 is a yokai. Perhaps his possession by the onmyo user kept him young for so long. But the real question here is how did the lady not age at all?

I always took it as William speaks English while they speak Japanese due to he understand Japanese and they understand English.But they all talk in the language more comfortable to communicate OR it could be the Gurdian spirits William whenever he speaks English it comes out in Japanese and when they speak Japanese he hears English

The English people speak English Williams spirit speaks Gaelic The Spanish bad guy speaks Spanish, English or Japanese depending on who she talks to. And some enemies speak Portuguese

@@shinshow6238 I recommend you play sekiro. With nioh I never felt the need to look up guides because I would just grind and level up my character. Sekiro on the other hand was based more on knowing how the enemy worked and it was so annoying

For those confused, Nioh 2 is a prequel and a sequel to Nioh 1. The story begins nearly 50 years before the events of Nioh 1 but end after William has had his entire adventure through Nioh 1 and it's DLC expansions. Your character being half Yokai is basically immortal and does not age throughout the adventure and there are several timeskips over the course of the game pushing the timeframe forward in each region.
Yokai Shift might suck but the moment William used Living Weapon I just HAD to respond in kind. He's extremely easy but it's one of the best fights in the entire game in spite of it.
I wish Willian would react to your shifting powers if you end up using them on him, something like when Tokichiro says “you’re using your powers on me?!” when you ult on him

in cutscene and as follower william is using a default low tier katana & spear yet as a boss he's using Ishida masamune (Mitsunari's sword) and Sakon's Spear
well Sakon gave William his spear as a reward after he beat him at Sekigahara, so there is that As for the sword, the basic Katana is what William rolls with always ingame and in scenes, dunno how he would have Mitsunari's sword.
I fucking love boss fights where you get fight OG protagonists. Prototype 2 (Alex),Yakuza 4 (Kiryu),Pokemon Crystal(Red),Devil May Cry 4(Dante) and Now Nioh 2 (William) I am genuinely glad William gets his well deserved Spot light and to see him as an Unbeatable Boss,it only goes to show he is in fact OP knowing all the struggles he went through in the first game which his Spirit memory proves. Also His Theme...God,This game doesn't get any near perfect than this. I just wish this game gets as popular as Sekiro.
I love how they made William a boss in the sequel; but I somewhat feel he should have been a super/secret boss given all he could do in the first Nioh. Then again that might have made him OP given all the weapons, spirits, and weapons he could use in the first game. He could have been the equivalent to Soul of Cinder like in DS3! Still it’s good to see him back!!
@@ko-fl8hu It's a sequel, the purpose of introducing William here was to confuse everyone. But William never arrives in Japan before Nioh 1 and in the epilogue you see his kid with the Ninja girl's (it's been too long, I'm blanking on the name) spirit.
Nioh 2 could be able to transfer data, after all, the game does know if you have Nioh 1 data on your console, so who knows? Maybe they add in a free update or a DLC an optional William fight with him at your William's power level, won't that be a trip?
As William, I backwave/tempest parried all the human bosses to death in Nioh 1. As Hide, I did the same to William. Now he got a taste of his own parry medicine.
Tbh even if I were to fight William from my Nioh 1 progress, I wouldnt have a hard time, its because I dont have a build HAHAHAHA, no one shots and stuff, not even sloth, only the reduce armor talisman thingy.

Prefer Yokai Shift over LW tbh. Feels much more interesting than just powering your weapon with an element.

I am genuinely glad William gets his well deserved Spot light and to see him as an Unbeatable Boss,it only goes to show he is in fact OP knowing all the struggles he went through in the first game which his Spirit memory proves.
Also His Theme...God,This game doesn't get any near perfect than this.

I love how they made William a boss in the sequel; but I somewhat feel he should have been a super/secret boss given all he could do in the first Nioh. Then again that might have made him OP given all the weapons, spirits, and weapons he could use in the first game. He could have been the equivalent to Soul of Cinder like in DS3! Still it’s good to see him back!!

This is a prequel story though I think so William isn't as strong as he is in Nioh 1

But William never arrives in Japan before Nioh 1 and in the epilogue you see his kid with the Ninja girl's (it's been too long, I'm blanking on the name) spirit.

Nioh 2 could be able to transfer data, after all, the game does know if you have Nioh 1 data on your console, so who knows? Maybe they add in a free update or a DLC an optional William fight with him at your William's power level, won't that be a trip?
As William, I backwave/tempest parried all the human bosses to death in Nioh 1. As Hide, I did the same to William. Now he got a taste of his own parry medicine.
