    I am male and sighted but I will say this. There is an attraction on the physical level yes, But what I've come to realize is that the more you get to know a girl and the more you love her personality. It shows on her face. She somehow becomes more beautiful as if her personality that you love has somehow fused with her physical appearance and is spread all over her. You look at her and you see her physically and emotionally, It is an incredible thing.

    You know what is attractive to women? A happy man at peace with himself and able to have fun with others. Take a leaf out of Tommy's book please all the losers who are desperate to be angry about women judging men on looks.
    I think we can agree that most people judge based on appearance, at least at first? Most emotionally balanced people also find people attractive who they develop a connection with, as Tommy said. It's not one or the other, there are infinite shades of grey.

    Wow...Tommy answers a million dollar question here. Fantastic. I myself am blind, and what I am attracted to first is a woman's voice, then the personality that that voice reveals. Sexually, I find health and soft skin attractive. Sexual skills, a sense of humor and an entire package is necessary. Tommy, you are a gem. Thanks so much for helping explain our experience with the sighted world. BTW, great Sam Elliot impression, albeit brief. Hope someday to meet you in person; the first beer/soda/coffee is on me.

      gabichri I typed it on my iPhone. All Apple products have a screen reader called Voice Over pre installed on them that reads everything displayed on the screen. Whenever you touch something, it reads it allowed. So when the keyboard is pulled up, I can touch a key, it tells me which one it is, i lift my finger, and it inserts the letter. • @sarcasticshantaya

    Everyone should be able to fall in love being blind, because that's really how it should be! One should fall in love with another's heart, and love each other for who they are, not how they look. That's one thing I really envy about you and other blind people, Tommy. You don't know what outer beauty is, only inner beauty. There's no pressure to look a certain way, because you judge each other completely based on your personality. This is how the world should be.

    • @Fl0pus
      @Fl0pus 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually there's a pretty good reason why we always view beauty as something important, look at this video called 'Michio Kaku: Why We're Attracted' its only 2 min. and its actually really interesting because I've always wondered why outer beauty is so important to us

      Can see your point but for sighted people the physical appearance plays a role in preference. How would you date someone that is beyond your physical preference for people? See, everyone is physically beautiful to someone. That doesn't mean everyone will be physically beautiful to every single person. Should outer beauty be the main factor? No. Personality also needs to be taken into consideration and who the person is

    • @mistalongname4674
      @mistalongname4674 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So if some fat old grandma Susan Boyle looking ah has the best personality every and she has a sweet angel voice... You should go out with her even tho you find her physically replusive?
      Get out of here with that bs... It's not all just about personality.... Looks matter too... Unless your blind... Inwhich case dating a good personality old grandma shouldn't matter

  • @layne7679
    @layne7679 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    This almost made me cry... you're so lovely and sweet. I wish more people appreciated the real truth about a person, about who they can be like you do. In a way I think that sight makes a lot of people blind to the real beauty they miss. I'd love to be loved by someone who really sees who I am as a person and falls for what truly makes me me. Too many people fall for looks and not the person that's really there.

    I don't have to be blind in order to not follow my own penis. Even though I can see and find certain women attractive, I don't exactly go beyond that initial feel. If I did, my friend and I would be lovers, but personality wise it just doesn't match, just a really good friendship... However, it is certainly interesting to hear a blind man explain their view of attractiveness, and its funny in my case too considering I go after the same thing.
    Morally, people who are not blind can learn a lot from this guy.

  • @KemaTheAtheist
    @KemaTheAtheist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I wish he had touched a little more on how touch factors in. I get that it's not the first thing you get to do, but I'd be curious if there's the same sort of preferences across the visually impaired for certain things.
    For example, does it ever happen after all the talking and such, they finally get to the touching part of it all, but are completely turned off because of the body type? Like for guys if she's too skinny or too curvy or whatever? Same for women; what if the guy isn't muscular or he has a bit of a gut?
    What about other things, like length of hair or hair style or how tall they are? I would think it could be weird for a moment to spend the evening with someone then give them a hug at the end of the evening and find that they're really short or really tall because they're outside the average range.
    Also, I imagine someone can get a sense of their partner's proportions by touch, so I'd be curious to hear if blind men still generally like women who fall into the "golden ratio" or if that's a purely visual cue. Same goes for other things like facial symmetry. I expect it matters a little, but I'm curious how much it matters for those different traits.

    • @MyCutiepututie

      I dont think that happens for him? Its an experience of perceiving "light in the visual cortex without light actually entering the eye." Seeing as his eyes haven't absorbed light since birth im guessing that yeah it doesnt happen to him. I'd love it if i'm wrong though. (note that when he was younger he said he could i guess vaguely tell the difference between light situations and dark but not anymore...pretty cool)

    I was reading some of these top comments, because when I heard what Tommy had to say I knew that women would swoon. Sincerity has to be like catnip or something. However, when it comes to appearance women are as much or more concerned with it than men are, read a women's magazine look up an article or two. Appearance is all women care about. All the emotional stuff requires a man to have an "in" already. Why do women say no when a guy asks them to dance? Because they judge based on appearance first then go for the other stuff second. It is the same reason why one girl gets asked to dance while her girlfriend sips on her diet coke and wonders why guys never notice her. The guy who gets shot down feels the same way.

    I wish everyone was blind, there would be no racism, no one would know where to aim their weapons, there would be no prejudiced thought. We would all like each other for who we are. Humans. Unfortunately, it would impossible to excel scientifically. We wouldn't be able to look up at the beautiful stars, the colorful plants, sunsets, we all take for granted. We would never be upset of that though because we would've never known what it looked like in the first place, kind of like imagining a new color or trying to comprehend a 4th spacial dimension.

    I was raised by Deaf parents and as a result, have an interest in sensory compensation. My dad could see a penny on the floor from quite a distance! Now, watching this, I note that you have compensated for your blindness in such a way that I actually think in some ways, you perceive way more in other people than I ever could - and here's the main point...You are completely right about what is attractive. I mean totally and utterly right. Interestingly, Dad could look a person up and down just once and pretty much know whether he trusted them. I know, I know, Don't judge a book by its cover' but the thing is, he was usually spot on! We grow old, everything goes south and by the time were old, we don't look so great but the person we are remains and that is what needs to be got right first. You are one very likeable bloke. Thank you sincerely for your explanation on this subject.

      I am sure they do but either lesser than men or they are just good at hiding it. Of course, from my experience. The good looking ones are more obvious that they do. However for the majority of the average ones compared to the average guy. At least seem to not judge by looks as much as the guys.

    I think this question is one that raises a particular question that I would like to ask you, or any non-sighted person, which is: do you sometimes think or have you ever thought that perhaps it is better to be sightless? Obviously there are practical disadvantages, and sighted people might say that you are missing things; but the reality is that you probably percieve many important things that they miss themselves, or that you miss things - like the extent to which someones face fits a cultural standard of beauty or whatever - that aren't actually important at all.
