I think you should temper your expectations. This is the reality of manufacturing where, lead times, logistics involving freight, and the current economic conditions are. Back when I worked on CNC 5-axis machines. Our actual shipping date would be 6+ months from the time or order placement, because it is being made and shipped from Germany. Americans, specifically, are numb to the realities of this process because we're so conditioned to getting what we want now. I'll spare you that explanation assuming you're aware of that. Another way to look at it Darryl, and hopefully you can appreciate this. Your money and patience is going toward American jobs and their paychecks. Had you picked an existing Model Y from their inventory nearby, no doubt you would have gotten your delivery sooner. I hope your patience is rewarded with what you're looking for. God bless.
Thank you so much and you are right, I struggle with living in a non perfect world. I am thankful that the Model Y is the most American made car in the world. All will be well, it helps talking out my frustrations, lol thanks and God bless.
Tesla does it's best to guesstimate delivery dates. They can and do change. They also do not telegraph what is coming for prices, features, financing. These items flex and do change with no notice. They do honor the pricing and financing that is locked in on once ordered. They also will lower the price if the price comes down after you ordered and before you take delivery. One caveat. It's also common for Tesla to say come and take delivery. If you are not able to when they say it is ready, they don't hold cars until you are ready. They have given cars to other buyers and ask you to order again. They don't usually offer expired incentives to a new order if you don't pick up when they want you to. Another FYI is service. When you book an appointment, they always quote the cost of the work that you have to agree to. If it is warranty, they will waive the cost after they look at it, But, you have to agree to the estimate before they will look at it. Is what it is. You have to be comfortable with how they operate and everything is done via the app. Not much opportunity to speak with people. It has worked well for me. But, not everyone is ready for that kind of experience.
Oh my, this is my first time dealing with Tesla and the way they work. With my personality it’s a little difficult. I am trying to relax and flow with it but…… stay safe and thanks for the advise.
Hey Daryl. Having been in the auto business now for 28 years, I've seen a lot of changes. I first got into sales in 1988 through 1995, then again from 2007 to 2011 and finally from 2013 till now. You are correct in that things change in this business, but Tesla seems to be the worst. I still don't think it's right that they pulled the 0.9% before it was listed to end. The problem in the auto world is that it's quite easy to up-sell yourself because the brands package so much together. For example, I'm one who loves a nice upgraded audio sound system. Yet in many cases you are forced to take a sunroof to get it. I loath sunroofs. Nobody can tell me that it's smart to cut a hole in a perfectly good roof and then not expect it to leak. I also hate the glass roofs that Tesla uses and you are forced to take. Anyhow, my take is that you seem to be having buyers remorse even before you get the new Tesla. This is the problem with having so much time from the "decision" to buy and getting the car. Tesla must learn how to do better there. Personally, I still feel like the Chevy Blazer EV or Equinox EV would have been the better choice overall, but hang in there. Very soon you will be an all EV family and great credit needs to go to you and your wife for doing so.
I agree with everything you said. When I bought my Bolt, I asked about heated seats. “Oh that’s the comfort and convenience package.” No, I just wanted heated seats, blah blah blah. If GM would have ever finalize nacs for charging, the equinox or blazer would have been in contention. I feel sorry that GM has not passed any info along to their dealers. I feel like I have more info from TH-cam about their EV’S than they get from GM. Actually talking about my Tesla woes has helped my anxiety, thanks and stay safe.
I pressed my Tesla Sales/Delivery Advisor to make sure my Model Y was ready for pick up before the end of May. That's because my delivery day moved a few times. When they pushed it into June is when I told them that wouldn't work for me (my Bolt tag renewal was coming up at the end of the first week of June.) The advisor then moved my delivery date up to May 31st (the original end of my delivery window.). And that's the day I took delivery. I was very happy about that. Great experience and there were no issues with the car. I've been enjoying driving it so much. Used FSD for a half-day trip a few days ago. Went 228 miles (rural/semi-rural divided multi-lane highways) through various small towns going 35, 45, 55, and some 60 mph. Used 73% of the battery and had an estimated 92 miles remaining when I got home. That's with the standard range (260 mile) RWD version. Ran a couple of errands when I got home and supercharged from 23% to 80% in 18 minutes. The car estimated it would have taken me 30 minutes to go from 23% to 100%. Very happy with supercharging on this car. :) The version of FSD that I'm using is pretty darn good. It does some wacky things, but is easy to override when needed. I'm still on the 30 day FSD trial and have decided to go with the monthly subscription when the trial ends. Despite the "moving target" of my delivery day and having to get a little pushy with Tesla about that, my experience has been fantastic. I love the Model Y. I hope you get yours delivered by the end of June so you can enjoy your vacation in the Tesla, Darryl. Have a great day and keep us posted!
That’s awesome, I am hoping we get it in time for our trip to Colorado from Illinois. FSD I like but from a stop sign, the G forces kinda got me, lol. No seriously I would like to use FSD all the way to Colorado. Thanks and stay safe my friend. Sounds like you have the perfect car….
@@EV-Darryl I've been tinkering with FSD and the Dynamic settings. I have FSD in Chill and Acceleration in Chill. That tames down the acceleration from a stop. Mostly. :) It'll be interesting to see how much the next version(s) of FSD will improve. And yes, FSD on the highway/interstate is pretty amazing. You definitely have to build up trust when using it to see what it can and can't do well. If you get the Model Y in time for Colorado, I hope you share some videos with us on how that goes. Enjoy the day!
If you think those kind of changes are frustrating, just wait until Tesla drops the price of your configuration by $1k or $2k just a couple weeks after you’ve purchased :-) that’s exactly what happened to me back in 2019, in fact about six weeks after we received our 2019 model 3, the prices were lowered by $1000, and autopilot became standard instead of an extra feature to buy. Change is just how it works. You have to be willing to be happy with exactly what you’re purchasing at the time for that price, because the price is going to go up or down later. You’re going to love the car, just stick with it.
Hey Dave! My parents had some frustrating issues when we were waiting for our Tesla as well. We got a 5-seater Model Y Long Range. After we test-drove the demo car (and some heavy convincing on my part, with my dad trying desperately to work against me), we decided to get the car. We got a car from inventory and we were hoping to drive off with it the same day. Turns out, we couldn't do that, after my dad argued with the Tesla Showroom Rep (and again, tried to tell my mom to look for another car), we left, a bit bummed that we didn't get the car immediately, but excited for our Model Y. Now, we ordered our Tesla on Friday and our delivery day was supposed to be on Tuesday. Not exactly the best day to pick up the car because both of my parents were at work and I had to drop off my brother. My parents devised a plan to pick up the car where my mom would come home, wait for my dad, and pick up the car. However, our delivery date changed because they weren't ready for us to pick up our car. Everyone was frustrated and we had to wait until next Monday to pick up a car they already had in inventory. Had my doubts with the car myself after that. Then, we picked it up and man, it was a nice drive home. My dad, the same person that was actively sabotaging my attempts to get the car, was enjoying every single bit of our Model Y. From how smooth the car felt, to the sound system, to how quiet it is. I know, you've heard it before that actually getting your car is such a better experience than the delivery and the waiting.
I struggled too--and it doesn't get better. Once you take delivery, if you need Tesla service, it's the same story. You make service appointments and they change it at the last minute. First they tell you come in, then they're coming to you, you approve the work/ date/ time, and then they change it to you have to you come in on a totally different date and time. The FSD pricing is constantly changing. Tesla sells extended warranties on their app if you buy their car from a third party dealer, but not if you buy it preowned *from them.* Still don't regret my purchase, but I too struggle.
My order process was a bit different.. no salesman, I did everything online. When I went on their website, I looked at their inventory heading my way to Pensacola Florida., and I picked a vehicle from there. It took less than 2 weeks to complete the transaction.
Nice, I’m a little slow computer wise but I also wanted to drive the vehicle first. I also wanted Mrs. EV Darryl to drive it as she will be the daily driver. The salesman was very knowledgeable and very helpful which calms me a little. lol stay safe
It's more frustrating because there is so much hype around the technology and it tickles that geek part of our brain, unlike any gas car we have ever bought. Having little to no bargaining power brings the anxiety to a new level and reminds me of Saturn cars of that's the price take it or leave it. I know for myself the 5-month wait for my model y was like waiting for Christmas. Once you get it all those sleepless nights and 100's of times you checked your phone for an update will just fade away. 😅
My friend. This is normal with buying a Tesla, and once you get it, all will be well. Patience is a virtue buddy. I've owned 3 Teslas personally, and the delivery process is unbelievable. Will take you about an hour, compared to 7 hours with other dealerships
Not "all dealerships". I've been in this business for 28 years. I have always ans still do take pride in my ability to get people in/out in about an hour. We do most if not all the other stuff via phone, email and maybe a short visit to our dealership. Also, when I buy my cars (usually Chevy or Buick), I am alwasy in/out in an hour or less. I just do as much as I can online and tell my sales people that when I come in, I expect everything to be ready and it is. I find that those who drive Tesla's seem to have an excuse for all their shortcomings, and that's not good. Don't get me wrong, I like the Model 3 and will probably look at one for my next car. However, it's the things being talked about in this video that keep me from going there so far. Well, that and the fact that I can't stand Musk. And that they force that huge glass roof on you. Well, also the fact that I don't care for their screens. But I could somehow cover that stupid glass roof or have it tinted totally black. The screen I could get used to. And Musk? No more comment on that. But one thing I don't like and will never get used to is when they keep changing things like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. That's a dealbreaker.
@danielberning1240 I am glad that you can achieve your purchase that quickly, but it's not the norm.. I am sure if you ask 100 people who recently purchased a car through Chevrolet, Buick, Ford, etc. They will say that it was at least a few hours, with the finance department trying to sell you every single extended warranty they have, or at least a car service contract.
@@tmorcos21 That all may be true, but there's a lot more dealers out there who will do a great job of getting you in/out fast.
