Nice to see how you navigate the problem with the rusted out cotter pin which makes this more of a real-world solution. Thanks for the good photography showing everything bright and clear!

On rusty pin removal I use needle nose visegrips on the straightened open end and tap it out with a small hammer.

Thank you for this extremely helpful great video and instructions. I've seen quite a few videos that you have done the mechanics work in and you always do an excellent job to talking through them and describing what you are doing. Your are a great mechanic!

I bought Mevotech control arm w/ ball joints 2 years ago from Rock Auto for my '01 Highlander. Also replaced both axles and tie rods. Recently noticed shaking in steering wheel when slightly turning to the right at highway speeds, as well as a bit of looseness. Passenger CV axle looks good, no tears in boot, no leaking grease, etc. Checked the lower ball joints...both left and right boots have cracks all around the base and passenger side has a large tear. 2 years old! WTF. Of course, it's under warranty, but I'd have to replace the lower control arms again, and that's a PITA job because the engine and transmission mounts block the control arm mounting bolts on both sides. It's not worth it, if I can just grab a pair of new lower ball joints from 1Aauto.
