Driven BMW, Mercedes, and very happy in my A4 2020 1.4 turbo. Bought for the sheer comfort and it has more than enough power and speed. Of course it has some imperfections, but a very comfortable nice ride
On a daily basis, I want my car to be confortable at first and dynamic at second. With a dynamic car, you enjoy driving it fast, with a confortable one, you also enjoy driving it slowly.
One of the LEAST enjoyable roadtrips was in an all new A4? I guess your other cars must have been a Rolls Royce or Ferrari. The shifter/MMI system takes about 5 minutes to get used to it..
I’m afraid I have to disagree with you. I have driven golf, Mazda 6 , Mercedes , etc. and I have got recently A4 B9 1.4 turbo sport line and I cannot be happier, cockpit is sporty and elegant, materials used are top quality and the way how Audi handles etc, I feel excited to drive my car any given minute, nowhere I can match this to any previous cars I driven so for me Audi is a winner, besides in my personal opinion, it is in general much more reliable car than used BMWs. But appreciate your video review.
i believe this car has a very smart market placent, it is for the middle aged because they are the ones with money, its the easiest to drive because they have lost any interest after ages of long trips and traffic you don't care anymore and it is an easy to spot and recognise ( some may say boring) status simbol. there you have it: Audi a premium car for who doesn't care much about driving. if you think about it its genious
well from a car I pretty much expect comfort, and high tech ...so this car could be good choice for me :) I think I'd still go for c-class anyway, with air suspension of course.
Very good, honest review. I drove this car in the U.s> gasoline version, I found one very objectionable item. The design of the console widens toward the front making my right knee continuously bumping into it. Very uncomfortable,
Wow worst review I've seen for the new A4. Extremely pessimistic and biased tone. Coming from a 3 Series F30 of over 4 yers to a 2018 Audi A4 Quattro, I have to disagree with just about everything except the bottle holders being too close to the buttons. Just about every review put the Audi above the dated F30. The open cabin comments are odd and overstated. Having driven both the BMW and the Audi, the Audi interior is light years better on every level. The Audi has more standard tech, looks more luxurious and modern. The BMW was no race car cockpit. The Audi is far better value and faster too (well all except the 340i). And try to dress at least business casual for your reviews man. You look like you just stole it.
I am about to invest in a premium car and I am looking at the Audi A4 Avant 2.0TFSI and at the BMW 320i Touring both from 2018. Since you have epxeriences with both, which one would you recommend more? We're 2 adults and 1 child and looking for a car that we can have longer period as a family (8-10 years). Thanks
Let's consider it: I currently have to choose between an Audi A4 Avant 2.0 Extra and a BMW 320d touring Efficient Dynamic 100th anniversary, I drive a lot and have a kid age 3, what should I choose? :) (I repeat, this is a working 'tool' for me ;-)
Totally agree with you in the virtual cockpit opinion, I actually prefer the touchable screen from Volkswagen. Yet I think it would not hurt BMW to bring some innovation into its boards. Those buttons from 1 to 9 for the cds that they keep installing look so old fashoned don't they?
Cars Life I had three series as company car years back. I do love them and it was my first choice. But they are everywhere, interior is Boring and it has no tech compared with a4
Well, if I look for short dynamic trips then I take a Bimmer, but if I go for 500km trip (like you did) then I would definetly not look for excitements, but nice, quite and safe ride offered by Avant Quattro. It is interesting how other (more legit) reviewers got completely different results from testing the very same car.
Either it's a journey or a destination. Most of us car people are all about the journey but too many real-world users are about destination. This is why Audi sells at all. A C class is classier and 3 series better to drive, but nobody seems to care. Frankly, if I am forced to choose a VW brand, I'd spend my money on a Passat with the same drivetrain instead - I think it looks better!
had a 2015 f30 rwd and moved to a 2017 a4 2.0t quattro, i would say i love the tech and interior over the bmw but bmw's steering is better and more smooth than audi
Mondeo is more boat-like, but Audi has superb damping. I'd probably go for smallest rims available to increase comfort. The problem with Vignale is that underneath the leather it is still the same Mondeo. A4 is better in terms of quality. You just know where the money went.
Marek Drives I see! i get people telling me that the A4 is beyond A6 level in terms of cabin isolation from exterior noise. and since you did a longer trip in it, is it that brilliant? from being a passenger in one once it felt like a proper limo-level of silence around town and on freeways, and i was a passenger in a vignale too, which as you said feels more boat like, but it also felt a little bit louder inside, is that the case for you as well or is it slightly subjective? :)
Sir Sparco I can't really tell, because I haven't spent much time in A6. Let me put this way: A4 wasn't obtrusive. Vignale diesel has that active sound reduction gimmick, so it probably feels more quite, or it has a different sound of silence. Simon & Garfunkel are probably rolling their eyes now :)
Very good review Marek as usual. As a new 3 series owner (since 1 week) I can tell you that the driving experience is a lot different between these two car. However if you drive in a country with shitty roads (like me in Casablanca, morocco) you will be slightly tired of the stiffness of the BMW suspension :)
Agree. Probably a 3 Series GT or an A4 Allroad would be more appropriate on rougher roads, preferably with fat tires. I recently drove an XC90 on 22s, and it was unbearable, even with air suspension.
astracartman I'd have to drive the same car with runflats and regular tires. There are too many factors. The roads I usually test drive cars on have so many different types of surfaces that different tires will behave differently on various sections. I never realised it, until I started riding a motorbike. On one turn I have three types of asphalt. I almost shit myself, because every type has different grip :) Bear in mind over the years rims got bigger, and tires slimmer, which makes the car look cool. That's why press cars are usually on ridiculously thin rubber that nobody in their right mind will specify in their car.
This Audi looks like a fantastic car, but for the price ... Why can't they make it fantastic to drive as well as fantastic to look at and sit in. If they managed that they would produce by far the best car in the class. It seems a waste and a missed opportunity ...
My taste is rather eclectic so I'm not sure anyone would care for my advice. For 60k you could completely spec out a Passat or Tiguan and save about 10k. Or, you could reach a class above and have an E-class 220d with quite a few options. Personally, I'd probably have a Passat GTE estate with pretty much every option and save enough to service and fuel it for its entire lifetime.

Since you posses no finesse how to make a negative point about something at least in a mild manner, you shouldn't do it at all. All you really achieve is show your true character which is very irritating. Makes watching reviews very exhausting and hard. Sometimes people have a real reason to watch a review about a certain vehicle and it's not to look at your mug or listen to your remarks that no sensible person would agree with. Just do yourself a favour and quite. ☻😉
