    Hi, nice review.
I recently ordered an EQB 250+ AMG line premium with the 20” wheels. To come to that decision I’ve done quite some research and test drives over the course of a few months.
I have also seen a lot of reviews and the conclusion I made is, that the problem with reviews often is the attempt to place all EV’s on a fictional line and compare.
It doesn’t work that way for a potential buyer.
There are several elements that play a role in what a buyer is looking for. That makes elements more or less important.
Now I drive lease and have a considerable budget. I too was looking at acceleration and charging speed for instance. But after some consideration I had to conclude that “fast” is very subjective. 8,6 seconds for instance, is pretty quick in daily use. If you compare it to many other EVs of this process range it might be slow on paper, but in fact faster acceleration is mostly overkill. It is useless unless you always need to win at the traffic light and it also wastes a lot of range. If you compare it to ICE cars that are most sold those acceleration is quite quick indeed, especially considering it is an SUV and weighs 2 tons.
Front wheel drive I agree on partly, except for the fact that a front whee drive car is easier to control when the car starts doing unexpected things, because 385 Nm of torque can do that easily.
The suspension on this car, it is an AMG line, plus there are 19” wheels mounted without adapting the suspension. I can tell you, the 20” with the adjustable suspension does not give the same result in comfort mode, while in sport it is firm enough to drive a little more fiercely. Up to a certain point, because again, it is an SUV.
Loading speed, a lot of Chinese brands advertise with very high loading speeds, but the curves is what is important. A peak speed does not tell me anything. In the end the largest difference in charging time on a DC charging spot is about 10 minutes. Adding to that, most people will not be fast charging that much, because the average distance people drive each day doesn’t exceed 100 km. So mostly people will charge overnight and DC charging speed will not be relevant at all.
What does play a role are things like, do I want a futuristic EV or do I want a car that is a car like I’m used to, but electric. Do I want luxury or a low price. That’s not different from ICE cars in the past.
Mercedes recently changed their strategy on EVs, because their clients clearly didn’t want the futuristic car design and don’t care for “fuel” costs and aerodynamics, they want an elegant and luxurious car that has an electric drive line. Which wasn’t what Mercedes was offering.
Because cars are EV now, doesn’t mean what buyers want has changed suddenly. Comparing a Mercedes to a Tesla or a Hyundai is ridiculous. They don’t need to be technically equivalent, because the kind of buyer is totally different!
I chose my Mercedes because of the luxury and quality, adding to that the service Mercedes dealers offer. I chose an SUV because I like the high seating position and the practicality. I wasn’t looking for a crazy design or cheap tech, nor was I looking for a race car which would win me traffic light drag races. I don’t need lightning fast charging times at the DC charging station, because I charge my car on my own property overnight. One of my sons ordered a Smart #3 Brabus, because he was indeed looking for speed and sportive drive characteristics.
So I would like car reviews to be more focused on what the purpose of a specific car is and how well it answers to that purpose, instead of comparing EVs that were designed for completely different purposes and demands from buyers.

Adding to this, not completely stopping on one pedal operation is deliberately engineered by Mercedes. If brakes aren’t used they will start rusting and sticking. That will cause very dangerous failure on the day you need to perform an emergency brake. Operating the brake pedal also causes regeneration, because Mercedes uses the engine to brake as well, when the conventional brake is used.
Just one of the really smart functions Mercedes offers in its cars.

Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts and congratulations to a great car.
When doing reviews it's very hard to compare things like feelings and less fact focusing areas.
So I try to stick to actual differences between the cars and functions/aspects I know is important for and EV.
I really appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts and insights.

In fewer words. “I bought a Mercedes because I wanted a Mercedes. (Nothing wrong with that btw) The gap in quality, technology and driving experience is not what it once was (especially in EVs) so now I feel the need to justify on the internet why it is better than a Hyundai. Which in fact is a cheaper, better more well equipped car. Refusing to concede to the fact that I bought my car based on the badge prestige which is slowly becoming less and less valid.” Imagine having to argue why a Mercedes is better than a Hyundai 10 years ago 😂😂😂

@@breeza0121well in fact I used to think like you too, what’s in a badge, right? Fact is, there are not many bad cars anymore, if any. And all cars are a lot better than 20 years ago. (I’ve been driving since 1990). I have driven a lot of cars from different eras and different brands, professionally as well, so many miles. Comparing a Mercedes to other brands doesn’t give the same gap as it used to, but there still is a gap present. For that you’ll have to look at the fine details. Everything in a Mercedes has been thought through so well, there are so many smart things and most stuff works really good. For example the charging, many brands advertise with fast charging at a high speed rate, but in reality they all take 30 minutes from 10% to 80%. The 800 Volt platforms excluded. But the 800 Volt platforms are all Chinese or Korean and living in Europe and working for a European company, I can’t help but want to support the “local” industries.
I admit, I wouldn’t know if I would choose a Mercedes if I couldn’t drive the top trim. I always drive the top trim of models and it occurred to me that Mercedes isn’t all that more expensive anymore compared to other brands. You spec a Volkswagen ID4 with the top trim, or even a Skoda Enyak, and see what they cost. I can assure you that a Volkswagen or Skoda isn’t on the same quality feel level as a Mercedes at least, if not the actual quality on itself.
In the end it doesn’t really matter, people choose what they like within their possibilities, most important is that they are happy with it. What brand or how expensive really is somewhat relative I feel.

I really needed to see this review. I was going back and forth on whether to go for the EQA 250+ or EQB Amg prem plus. Since driving SUVs, I quite like the idea about being higher up. Miror to mirror, there is no difference, but the EQB is slightly longer. But overall, the drive seems quite similar. It really is down to your own preference.

I'm driving my 2nd EQA (both Pre-Facelift) now. It has the changeable suspension, which makes a big difference to the stiffer standard non adjustable suspension from my previous one. And by a click, in Sport mode gives way better feedback as well.

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Seems to come with the premium package only. I would really go for that, standard suspension really needs some adjustments.
Glad to hear that it really makes a difference

I've had a 250+ AMG Line Premium Plus for just over 3 weeks now, 2025 model year, and I'm in love with it! I like that it has a bit of road noise personally as it is my first EV so that auditory feedback is reassuring somehow 😅 Super nippy for what I need and limited boot space is perfect for me so I don't fill it full of rubbish 😂 Still haven't figured out how to open the bonnet to check fluid levels though 🤷 The manual is not very helpful in this respect but if I'm going on a long journey, I don't want that display flashing up when I'm 400 miles from home 😁
