To get a steak that thin closer to med rare, pop it in the freezer for 15 min, blot dry the outside, then fry in a hot pan. The colder inside gives the outside a chance to crust before it't overcooked.
Whenever I make the garlic shells, I add garlic powder while I'm cooking, and sprinkle in a generous amount of parmesan after plating. Adds tons of flavor!
I make them with Bisquick and Old Bay, and definately do garlic butter on the top once they come out. So yummy. I might use way more butter butter on top than the recipe calls for ;-)
Thank you so much! We were not going to be able to go to dinner for Valentine's Day because it was not in the budget. I can definitely afford $20. I am going to surprise my husband now. Wow, just Wow!
Honestly, you are one of the most creative food creators on the tube. It is very impressive how you are able to come up with and execute these meals. Thank you for providing good content.
Well done! We've been cooking Valentines Day dinner at home for years. It's cheaper but it's also less stress and more comfortable. We've usually done surf and turf too but this year we are going to make pizzas in our new pizza oven. ❤
I love this video. I know you usually never make a recipe video where you assume anyone has anything but salt and oil in the pantry but have you ever made a video about cheap pantry staples from dollar stores one could build up?
Frugal Fit Mom has a couple videos about building a pantry with DT items, but I'd love to see Rebecca's take on it. And yes, I've seen flour and sugar, along with nearly every pantry basic, at DT.
@recoveringsoul755 Around the holidays, I have seen lots of baking staples i.e. sugar, baking soda, baking powder, brown sugar etc. One of the best baking finds I found at DT is a cinnamon sugar blend in the spices section. I have also found shredded coconut, chocolate chips, condensed milk and evaporated milk. Last fall I stocked up on canned pumpkin from DT for my pumpkin desserts.
if you have a spring form pan you could bake your cookie and thaw the icecream til very soft and add it on top of the cookie while it's still in the pan and freeze to make a icecream cookie 'cake'
Coming back by to say thanks for the inspiration. As soon as I heard your Surf & Turf concept, i realized I had most of the ingredients already and it would save me hunting down another beef tenderloin. As senior citizens, we split a baked potato, split a beef tenderloin, used up some popcorn shrimp. I splurged on the Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix. Dessert is a riff on tiramisu using ingredients we had on hand. Great Valentine's Day dinner!
I love that you share how we can have a delicious dinner on a budget and for someone who says it doesn’t taste like Red Lobster most of the time they can afford going out to that kind of dinner. It is about having decent and tasty meal that’s a bit of splurge but doesn’t break the bank and is still good tasting & quality. Thank you for working so hard to continue to bring us great meals at great prices and while you only allow salt pepper and oil many of us have items of spices or condiments already which allows to add even more!
To cook a 1/2 to 1 inch steak edibly rare to medium rare, heat lard or coconut oil in a skillet to high heat. Sear about 30 seconds to one minute on each side to get a good crust. Remove immediately and top with butter.
Happy Valentine's Day All, Rebecca you're doing so well I only have two notes. if a steak is a bit tough before you cook it you can "mechanically tenderize" it ... there's a tool with lots of sharp needles that does this job or you could just stab the steak over and over with sharp forks or a knife point. or you could pound it with a meat tenderizer...one of those bulky metal kitchen hammers with textured faces. For Lovey dovey day you could bake the cookie on a flat sheet and form it into a heart. 💖 we make little heart shaped cookies out of several cookie doughs. for Holidays, whenever I make cookies, I save a bit in the freezer so we can have a big variety to celebrate with. I really look forward to your videos. You are one smart lady. Thank you so much for sharing all of your wonderful meal ideas with us. 🥰 I used to be depressed having such a tiny food budget, but you have made it fun.
At the Tree, and really any store, I try to get spice mixtures that don’t have salt because we already have salt at home so I feel like we’re getting more of the ingredient we want and need,

I always read on the back of the packs of individually packaged fish to cook it from frozen, but I didn't know why. When I looked it up, I learned that you can get botulism if you thaw the fish out in the packets, but it is fine if you thaw them opened in the fridge. -Kryste
I appreciate the ideas here. We're seniors and have never really gone out for Valentine's Day. I had penciled in filet and baked potato but I've been hunting for a little more marked-down filet. However I do have popcorn shrimp in the freezer. And all the scratch ingredients for cheddar bay biscuits. Since you have shrimp, you could make shrimp tacos or a shrimp alfredo. That would be a lovely meal. We don't go out for Valentine's either. I usually get my daughter a small gift, but I don't care at all about it. Neither does my hubbie.

This was awesome. I found you on TikTok first and I follow you but I definitely love your TH-cam videos. I feel like I’m right there with you shopping and cooking. Thank you for doing this for us.
The reason it tells you not to thaw the salmon is because if you leave it in the cryovac, there is a risk of botulism. You can negate the risk by removing the salmon from the packaging before thawing.
I made this last night for supper. I'm in Canada so we can't buy a lot of food at Dollartree but I went as cheep as I could with Walmart and I was able to put the dinner together for about 37 dollars. The food was so good! The last time we went to Red Lobster for 3 people it was 125 dollars! Way over priced if I can make it at home.
Thank you for this video, especially right before a major holiday for couples. I do have a suggestion. I noticed that you have a bandage on your left hand. It’s a good idea to wear a glove on the hand you have a bandage on while cooking. It would be a shame to put all that effort into a romantic meal, only for the bandage to find its way into the food. It is also for your own safety, since you were handling raw meat. You don’t want any chance for the bacteria in the raw meat to seep through the bandage into the open wound. Thank you again. You are helping lots of us who are hurting for cash have a better quality of life within our budgets.
This is such a fun and creative dupe Red Lobster meal. I love the cheddar bay biscuits but the mix is super expensive so the DT mix you found is a great alternative. I rarely eat red meat but your salmon looked delish. Mmm. Another fun dessert idea for the cookies is to bake large cookies and make ice cream sandwiches. Hi. Congrats on the growth of your channel. I enjoy watching your videos and picking up meal ideas. I’m writing to ask if you’d create a pantry of staple items video. I use a lot of herbs, spices and oils with a variety of meals. I would enjoy seeing your take on building a supply.
You looked so pretty in this video! This looks like such a great meal, I can't wait to try it! Thanks for giving us so many great ideas & cooking tips. You have been such an inspiration!
I frequently buy the Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuit mix they sell in the supermarket. The thing that makes it taste like Red Lobster, in my opinion, is the flavor packet that you add to the butter and spread on top of the cooked biscuits. The biscuit mix itself doesn't even seem to have any garlic in it - all that flavor comes from the butter/flavor packet mixture.
It's Old Bay seasoning. If you want to save a little money over time, there are recipes for Bisquick CBB. It tastes exactly like the mix, but works out to about half the price per batch over several batches, especially if you keep Old Bay on hand.
A bunch of chemicals, meat, glue, pesticides, and who knows how the farm raised fish were kept, what their environment looked like, is not a quality meal. It might look like one, but it is filled with a bunch of carcinogens and chemicals!

Hello! I really enjoy your videos. It’s clear that you plan and prepare well and put a lot of thought into your content. I appreciate the budget-friendly ideas!
The biscuits are at the grocery store but here’s a copykat recipe Copycat Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits PREP TIME 15 minutes minutes COOK TIME 10 minutes minutes TOTAL TIME 25 minutes minutes SERVINGS 12 Biscuits AUTHOR Holly Nilsson Tender flaky cheddar bay biscuits are loaded with buttery garlic flavor. Ingredients Biscuits 2 cups all purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon sugar ½ teaspoon garlic powder ¼ teaspoon baking soda ¼ teaspoon salt 1 cup milk more if needed ⅓ cup cold butter ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese Garlic Butter ¼ cup butter melted 1 teaspoon dried parsley ½ teaspoon garlic powder ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning optional Instructions Preheat the oven to 400°F Mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, baking soda, and salt. Add butter and mix with a pastry cutter or fork until crumbly and the butter pieces are about the size of peas. Stir in milk and cheddar cheese Drop dough by heaping spoonfuls onto a parchment lined pan Bake 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned. While biscuits are baking, combine melted butter, parsley, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning if using. Remove from oven and let cool 3 minutes. Brush warm biscuits with butter mixture and serve warm. Or To make with biscuit mix, combine the following: 2 cups biscuit mix or Bisquick, 2 tablespoons softened butter, ⅔ cup cold milk, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese Prepare and bake as directed above. Brush with melted Garlic Butter as above.
I do the cheddar bay biscuits, but I doctor them up a bit. After they are almost finished baking (maybe like a few mins until done), I melt butter and mix garlic salt, parm cheese (powder kind), and parsley together and coat the top of the biscuits. Bake another 2-3 mins. So yummy and adds a little extra flavor.
Obviously I haven’t been inside a dollar tree store in forever! I knew they used to have one ore two isles of pantry food but the selection has definitely improved. I went into this video thinking you were just buying the plates, glasses and ramekins. Color me surprised!
I was doing my usual DT shopping and put a box of their soft pretzels from the freezer section in my cart. Got to the register and discovered they bumped the price up to $3. Kind of a bummer but I took it as a sign from the universe that I didn’t “need” them. These 10 lbs of holiday weight isn’t going to drop itself 😂
You made such a nice meal to fit our budgets! I’m in the mood for a seafood “boil” but really I’m craving that garlic herb butter and that salmon will work with 🍤 and I’ll do asparagus and maybe corn! The biscuits looked great and it’s so nice to see a dessert that isn’t work but a very affordable scrumptious treat! 🍪 🍨 I ❤️ seeing what you come up with for holidays! Happy almost Valentine’s Day! 🩷

If only my local DollarTrees had the stock yours does. Really nice looking meal.
What an awesome woman. You are definitely very creative and have the ability to make the most out of what you have.
Its more about who you are having dinner with that how much you spend .The effort counts.Great video as always .Happy Valentines Day
I do the cheddar bay biscuits, but I doctor them up a bit. After they are almost finished baking (maybe like a few mins until done), I melt butter and mix garlic salt, parm cheese (powder kind), and parsley together and coat the top of the biscuits. Bake another 2-3 mins. So yummy and adds a little extra flavor.
This is a very clever video. On a personal note, and none of my business, you would look amazing with either blue or green eye make up.
This is a brilliant option for Valentine's day! Or any day you want a special meal like a birthday.
Obviously I haven’t been inside a dollar tree store in forever! I knew they used to have one ore two isles of pantry food but the selection has definitely improved. I went into this video thinking you were just buying the plates, glasses and ramekins. Color me surprised!
I love the sound of the crunchy when you bit into the biscuit. 😌
Oh and sharp cheddar and some old bay seasoning helps the biscuits. :)
This looks delicious 🤤 and super affordable!!! I’m learning so much from your channel. I just subscribed!
❤To get the true Cheddar Bay Biscuits, you need to use the Bisquicl Buttermilk biscuit mix--Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning-and the Cheddar cheese...PERFECTION
This all looks delicious. I was waiting for the biscuits to reappear, I enjoyed it so much!
Great job!!!! Thank you Rebecca for sharing your budget friendly ideas!!! I’m definitely going to recreate this meal!!!
There is a version of red lobster biscuit mix in some grocery stores... Can't remember if you already mentioned that. I do enjoy your videos your recipes are creative 👍
Fabulous Valentine meal! I just need to find someone to share it with.❤
You look so much like Alyson Hannigan from that show 😀" How I met Your Mother." I just found your channel and I am so impressed by your creativity.
