Explain Zabraks. Like why there's only males on Dathomir and why they're compatible with Nightsisters. And how this changed from legends like when the night sisters had pet rancor
2:31 You say this as if George Lucas was bound or limited in some way by the rest of the expanded universe. It's the other way around. The EU is bound to him and what he makes in his movies and shows. The history of background characters and species isn't really that big of a deal to him compared to the main film characters. Besides it's not the first time that there's been minor retcons in Star Wars. In ANH, Obi-Wan said, "For a thousand generations the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic." In AOTC, Palpatine states, "I will not let this Republic which has stood for a thousand years be split in two." Which one is correct? In Legends, they both are. It was clarified that Obi-Wan was referring to the over all timeline of both the Jedi's and Republic's formation 25,000 years BBY. As for Palpatine, it was clarified that he was referring to the current Golden Age of the Republic since the Ruusan Reformation after the New Sith Wars. Unfortunately, now this inconsistency is still in place since both of those events have not occurred in the new canon and there's no clarification on what they were referring to. “LucasBooks has always checked with the boss to make sure that none of its projects interferes in any way with anything that he is planning. And while plans can change, rest assured that the wonderful expanded fictional universe enjoyed by so many fans has in no way stomped or trampled on any of George Lucas's prerogatives or options."-Steve Sansweet, Director of content management and had of fan relations at Lucasfilm, Starwars.com November, 2000 “After Star Wars was released, it became apparent that my story-however many films it took to tell-was only one of thousands that could be told about the characters who inhabit its galaxy. But these were not stories I was destined to tell. Instead they would spring from the imagination of other writers, inspired by the glimpse of a galaxy that Star Wars provided. Today it is an amazing, if unexpected, legacy of Star Wars that so many gifted writers are contributing new stories to the Saga.”-George Lucas introduction to the 1994 reprint of splinter of the Mind’s Eye "GL is certainly not bound by the EU, though he's certainly open to using things created in it (Aayla Secura and the Coruscant name, for example). On the other hand, the quote you provide makes it sound like the EU is separate from George's vision of the Star Wars universe. It is not. The EU must follow certain tenets set by George through the films and other guidelines that he provides outside of the films."-Leland Chee, Continuity Database administrator aka Keeper of the Holocron for Lucas Licensing, on starwars.com December 7, 2005 (In response to the “I don’t read those books” Starlog magazine quote) “Everything outside of the films was collectively known as the Expanded Universe serving as an extension of the same universe as the films. If something happened in a book or a comic, it could potentially affect everything else happening in the universe. Any discrepancies that resulted would be resolved or retconned (short for retroactive continuity, i.e. changes from previously established continuity) across the board to try and create some consistency.”-Leland Chee, Continuity Database administrator aka Keeper of the Holocron for Lucas Licensing, Starwars.com July 20, 2012 And by pointing out this particular inconsistency, do you think that this proves the New Canon is more consistent and therefore better? Because I can provide a whole list of examples that it is *not* . So, there's really not a whole lot of differences between new and old canons with the major exception being Quarren political policy going from aggressive to peaceful and back, which isn't unrealistic.
Dude I think he was just simply pointing out George's authorithy over the prior EU rather than saying New Canon was more consistent or anything like that.
@Mexus Then why does he say it in a condescending manner as if Lucas's authority was ever in doubt over the EU? No one thought that George had to conform to the universe that was formed around him. Writers and directors had to bring up their ideas and projects for books, games, and shows to him for his approval especially when it concerned the main film characters. He would either approve or disapprove the material and even sometimes asked to change some things but keep the rest.
@@GAdmThrawn Well that's the thing, I never interpreted what he said as condenscending, just that he was stating facts: Lucas's could change whatever he liked. That's how I interpreted it.
are the the IDW Star Wars: Tales from Vader's Castle canon in issue 2 Obi wan is wearing his armor that we only see him use in the Battle of muunilinst.
With all due respect to Disney I feel it was different when Lucas contradicted the EU or did something else fans disliked as he was the creator of SW. Without him the franchise wouldn’t exist, since he created it he ultimately had the right to do what he wanted, and more often than not he helped contribute to the EU. Great video as always Alex!!!
+Barsenthor Battlemaster Plus Lucas didn't do it that often and even then the authors and Lucasfilm officials made it work within the Star Wars Expanded Universe continuity. Just look at Boba Fett's history.
Star Wars is made as it goes along so people shouldn't care about contradictions as much, for example Ahsoka, a character who never is mention in anything including the movies.
When George sold Lucasfilm, the power to do whatever the heck he wanted, went to Disney/Lucasfilm. George said that he felt that the EU was separate universe from his. And he contradicted it a lot. Just look at The Clone Wars.
JediAcolyte22 I totally agree. I read that he told the SW Republic authors to not kill off Quinlan Vos, advised Kevin J Anderson on Jedi training for the JA trilogy, instructed that NJO not kill certain characters-other story decisions, (I was a kid when the prequels were released and only in the last 3 years had time to really get into SW outside of the movies and television), and when you add his decisions to incorporate EU stuff into the prequels and tie in to TCW... I’m sorry. I mostly like Disney canon except post ROTJ but the only person I ever truly trust Star Wars with is George Lucas. He’s the man!!!!
in only 4 Disney films we have seen Wookiees, Mon Calamari, Twi'leks, Rodians, Sullustans, and even a background character from the Mos Eisley cantina, as well as Yoda's species and humans. All of those were in the OT and have appeared in the 4 Disney films.
Sullustan is obviously Nein Nunb. I thought i remembered a Twi'lek in 8, but i couldnt find it after looking just now, but they do appear in both Solo and Rogue one. As for Rodians there was one in Solo. But all 3 of those species appear in the resistance show along with countless others, both classic and new. And that show takes place roughly the same time period as the movies

Just an aside not directly related to the Quarren, but why do so many planets have kings and queens? It feels rather silly and kind of cheap to just make every planet some type of monarchy.
Well I wasnt thinking of Naboo only, but its situation is also very ridiculous imo. Mon Cala, Alderaan, Mandalore, Zygerria, Geonosis, Onderon, Toydaria, all have some form of monarchy or use titles that would signify some hereditary connection. I just dont get why, when its the Republic, we dont see more planets that have more obvious democratic forms of government.
