Me too! Even though I thought he was high in most vids, lol, his playing and sheer enthusiasm was absolutely amazing. So glad he has moved up in the world! Love Phil!
This video took so long for me to edit due to some audio syncing issues, but I am so excited to finally have it up for you guys. 🙌🏼🎸 What was your favorite piece of advice Phil gave?!
I have been struggling with string bending too. Now I have some expert advice on how to play it... 😃 Also the advice on strengthening the pinky finger is really cool and quite interesting... Thanks GG... 💖
The favorite piece of advice I found was playing the exact flow and cohesiveness as you described. When practicing a new piece of music. So eventually when I'm up to speed the accuracy is there. By the way Michelle. You yourself accentuate the positive energy when you teach. And it has helped me a lot in my guitar learning. Thank you.
There are 2 guitarists that I would love to go out for a beer, some food and a chat with. Phil X is one and Paul Gilbert is the other. They both come across as such genuine people who seem to have a lot of time for fans and do great interviews like this one where they are such affable, natural and warm people.
The few times I had to chat with Phil, he was always a very warm and inspiring person to be around. He's definitely full of positive energy and such a genuine down to earth person.
I love that Phil X validates that method of playing without the index finger and using the pinky more. I had a hand injury that prevented me from playing guitar for several years. (Damaged tendon and infection in tendon sheath. Couldn’t appy any pressure or bend index to even 90 degrees). When I finally picked up the guitar again, I played with middle ring pinky and the index sticking out straight until months of therapy allowed that finger to bend again.
Love this vid. Biggest learning for me is not to be intimidated by players who are “better” than you. I picked something up from both you and Phil X here. Great job..👍🇦🇺🎸
Phil X seem like such a cool guy, that must have been amazing meeting him up close! I'd love to see Bon Jovi play live though! The multi-finger bend trick was a surprisingly big game changer for me when I first learned it. My bends sucked and I never got how anyone could pull of those crazy bends, especially on a steel string acoustic! My bends still aren't great, but they're considerably better since learning! But my favourite piece of advice came more from the both of you, about not being intimidated by better players, and being able to learn from anyone if you're watching out for it. I'm gonna take both of those to heart! Oh, and the thing about using your pinky and not your index to train it. That's so simple but so smart, I don't even know why I never tried that out before! Definitely something I should give a try when I'm practicing!
i've been trying to learn to play left handed, i don't know why, i'm not that great right handed, but it has reminded me how difficult it seemed learning, but still learning is the best thing because when you eventually nail something you once thought impossible, the horizon really opens up. So never be disheartened if your a learner and see someone who's been playing a long time, and they seem awesome, just enjoy the journey and keep practising, you'll get there, and hats off to you for getting a lesson of an expert like phil, very brave!.
At 3:16 phill X realised what he got himself into, this person pretends to care about guitar but has not put the time to get any good. I should know I am that person as well
You don’t master this riff yet? My pinky tells me that you don’t practice it enough 😁 Did you add the spider excercice to your warm up routine? It helps a lot to develop your speed and accuracy
Another thing that might help with your bends is letting you thumb come over the top of the neck and use it as an anchor or pivot point to help along with multiple fingers
Hi Michelle , so cool , thanks for the video / lesson accuracy wins over speed I so get that . The 3 finger bend , I sooooo needed that tip !! ( yeah !! ). Super cool , guitar is a demanding instrument , but you and your guest are turning it fun !! It is supposed to be fun , it is music. I so wish I had the 'right' guitar teacher so many decades ago. " To master guitar you first need to realize you will always be a student " , we always learn .Thanks again , such a fun video , have a great weekend , Gary . ( Dreamer )
What a cool guy. I loved the idea of modifying a lick you play well by adding the pinky and subtracting the index to develop pinky strength Very cool tip! I also cannot stress the usefulness of a looper pedal for developing time, song writing, and improvising lead. It makes mundane drills more musical and fun when you can lay down a loop to practice against. 👍
hey don't give up on that bent pinky! my pinkies are super bent and everything he played in this video is possible. That imaginary extra cm shouldn't discourage you :)
More like... Goddess? I thought with a channel named "Guitar Goddess", this women would rock, but OMG... she's an absolute beginner. How is she able to interview Phil X? Doesn't make any damn sense. It really is the Kali Yuga. Down is up, up is down, etc.
I like his approach with learning the pinky by not using the index. Great video! I just bought a tascam 32 SD for half price! going to record drums better now.
Phil's straight through the amp, one channel guy. He controls volume nob on his guitar. Rhythm volume is up only half way. Solos, lead volume goes up. Chugging with volume nob half way is probably not for me
Phil X is really a golden retriever trapped in a human body.
Best definition about Phil X
Well said
YEEESSSS!! Nailed it!
YESSSSS
He always reminds me of mr peanut butter... or mr peanut butter reminds me of phil x
I’ve been watching Phil x since his day when he was doing videos with frettedamericana
Me too! Even though I thought he was high in most vids, lol, his playing and sheer enthusiasm was absolutely amazing. So glad he has moved up in the world! Love Phil!
Phil X is such a nice guy. This is like a PHD teaching kindergarten.

Hearing a different angle on how to practice with a metronome (he didn’t say exactly, but still the same).
My favorite parts were how to practice at slow mode and the bending technique part!!!

By the way Michelle. You yourself accentuate the positive energy when you teach. And it has helped me a lot in my guitar learning. Thank you.
You’re so lucky! I like how he said you gotta practice it slow
Phil X is so good at guitar yet a humble teacher, and cool dude!!
Phil X is a great guitarist but really a great human being. He truly is a genuine man.
Great vid! I've seen him live and he's insane!
Thanks, Dave! Oh, that's so awesome. He really is an incredible musician. :)
This is the most calm I've seen him. Must not have had his 3 morning red bulls.
I didn't see any wings.

Phil is just an awesome dude in all respects. That was fun to watch!
Phil is teaching me how to teach guitar

That was fun watching! Go GG!
Respectfully, this was fun. But how on earth does this nice girl have more subscribers than Phil X?
She has better legs...

I thought Phil was going to pick his nose with his pinky at 5:05, and that was his "great way" at developing the pinky.
😂😂😂
At 3:16 phill X realised what he got himself into, this person pretends to care about guitar but has not put the time to get any good. I should know I am that person as well
Phil X looks so nice and joyful, it was a great vlog with great tricks !
He's such a cool dude. 👍🏼 So glad you enjoyed the vlog!
Phil X is awesome love his personality!!!! Also he's from Toronto, Canada!!!!!
Phil X has become my new favourite guitarist. And to top it off he is from Toronto my home town.
What an awesome guy Phil X is !

Spider Rocks technique like a Super Soldier Formula

Great video. I've been playing for afew years & always open to new tips & tricks as 'bad habits' do happen without realizing. Stay safe 👍
"Thanks for the gummy bears by the way"
"It came with the pedal" (The most Phil X thing to do) hahaha

You caught him on an off day. He’s usually crashing thru the walls every second 😂
Pro tips from Phil X?? A solid 10!!! Thanks Michelle!!
So glad you enjoyed it! 🎸🙌🏼
Looper Pedals _are_ cool, totally changed my timing skills.
The guitar god will put his guitar goddess on the pedestal.
He is one of the single most intuitive guitar players since Jimi Hendrix. I want to buy him a beer or 2
Loved that dude since the first time I've seen him in fretted americana :D great vid!
He really is a nice guy. Very warm personality and always very positive and humble. Great guitar player too.
I loved watching you play back in black...been thrtr...lol
You’re awesome! So happy for you!♥️♥️
Aww, thank you!! ☺️
Girl you "literally" taught me guitar, right from the basics. Can't thank you enough!!!
Phil X is just amazing!
What a cool guy. I loved the idea of modifying a lick you play well by adding the pinky and subtracting the index to develop pinky strength Very cool tip!

i want Phil as my teacher !!!! So coooool !!!!!!!!!!!
You basically need a guitar teacher to get better! xD what a beast Phil is! I learned english watching his videos on fretted Americana, no bs!
You have the same smiling eyes as Phil X, so a promising career lies ahead of you ;-)
My looper peddle is more of a "blooper" pedal :o)
THEO you nailed dit
One finger bends, right here bro!! 💪
Your awesome
so jealous phils has a straight pinky as mine is curved so reaching pinky notes are nearly impossible.
hey don't give up on that bent pinky! my pinkies are super bent and everything he played in this video is possible. That imaginary extra cm shouldn't discourage you :)
Probably to slow it right down as I often try to play way too fast. 🎸😁
“They came with the pedal”😂😂😂
might be the coolest guitar player on earth
Goddess !
You needn't a lesson teacher,
Cause you're Teacher
And I wish you were my guitar teacher 😭😭😭
fun video
Hi nice video
Thank you!
"Goddess" ...

Imagine an album or tour with Phil X and Dave Grohl.
But can he play Cliffs Of Dover?
I need to go to a Guitcon 🤗
4:30 lol
At last,you scared me!
I Phil that too...
bold channel name for someone who seems like they barley have any experience playing tbh, but cool vid with phil x
Can I get a guitar lesson from Phil X... :o)
👍
I love you. You're amazing ❤❤
He's got huge hands.
I excel on tar with lots of rubber laid down, reasonably dry conditions and a f**king fast car!
You are looking soo pretty ❤❤❤❤
Hey the girls cute too
Lead guitar is definitely way harder than rythmn chords
Nope
I like his approach with learning the pinky by not using the index. Great video! I just bought a tascam 32 SD for half price! going to record drums better now.
👏👏👏👌👍
this guy is amazing. Richie will always be Richie mas Phil X is something else.
Does she even play? I don't get this at all.
Amazing
I've never received a pedal that had gummy bears come with it. 😕
Phil's straight through the amp, one channel guy. He controls volume nob on his guitar. Rhythm volume is up only half way. Solos, lead volume goes up. Chugging with volume nob half way is probably not for me
I follow you on IG now it's aarik_green88 (finally decided to get it)
Wait a guitar goddess who can’t even play? I’m confused. I only came for Phil X.
First rule; never mention the words "Arctic Monkeys" and "riff" in the same sentence. Second rule; never mention the "Arctic Monkeys" at all.
You already are good guitar player Michelle 🥰
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that, but I am always looking for ways to grow and improve my skill set. 🎸
Please do a cover of avenged sevenfold, I think you're ready!!!! 😂
she's so cute
