An awesome talent. Matt deserves world wide recognition and it seems he's starting to get noticed. Few people fuse exceptional feel, technique and a huge tone in the way he does. Hands down my favourite player.
I waited and waited for him to finally tour the US and I was fortunate enough to be in attendance at his very first US show - in Portland OR. It was incredible - so intimate as only about 50 people were there. I was blown away that the place was not packed, a shame to waste such an amazing talent!!
Matt, IMHO, is one of the best blues player on the planet right now. He excites me more than anyone I've heard since we lost Stevie, and is right up there with Jeff Beck (again, IMHO) in terms of innovation and intensity in his playing. I've had the pleasure of seeing him live several times, and regardless of the size of the venue, the audience or the circumstances, he puts 110% into every note and blows the back wall out. If you have the chance to see him live - GO!
Man I cant get enough of this guy,we were lucky enough to hang with Matt at the 2010 NAMM show in LA.Great player on his way to be one of the next guitar legends.
Great guitarist...read an article in Vintage guitar magazine and has been a fan ever since...where can I get concert information...come to Oklahoma Matt!!
I hesitate to use the word 'best' for art, but Matt is on a level that few others have dared to tread. It's really a shame that the music industry doesn't promote a talent, like Matt. He deserves to be playing on stages with Clapton, Mayer, Beck, and others for sure...
Hey Matt! Nice meeting you at Blue Jean Blues, Fort Lauderdale tonight. I host a pro open mic every Sunday at 4:00PM and you are welcome to sit in for a few tunes if you're still in town. God continue to bless you with success.
Discovered you at New Road Studios when you played for the Lester Butler Tribute! Then your appearance at the gitaarnet.nl festival in P60, Amstelveen, opening for Jan Akkerman... magic! And in the end, you were very open for all to chat, which is important too. Maybe you could play with Robbenford one day? You're welcome at our Ice House, CA campground :-)
Matt is enormously talented and possibly the most mind-blowing guitarist around, but Evan Jenkins and Jonny Henderson absolutely blew me away too when I saw the three live. Don't know about the bass player, but he sounds great too. Amazingly no frills errorless music.
Great ambassador for British blues - up there with the modern bunch of players from both sides of the pond... Reminds a bit of a young Rory (in attitude rather than style..).
Best blues guitarist in UK? I don't think so... I reckon he's the best blues guitarist in the world as noone has added such style, melody and unique playing with such "emotion" to blues since Hendrix! He has a killer tone and incredible technique to boot. This guy will go down in the book of guitarists in due course, mark my words.
@AxemanTurk you right..he's probably the best in the world as far as blues guitarist go..but who knws there may be a 14 yr kid in india who blows matt out the water lol never really knw but yea he's brought that Albert Collins feel..with SRV's tone..and the BB King vibrato and mixed it with some jazz..and well you get MATT SCHOFIELD!! i love this guy
Matt, you've taken lessons from The Texas Cannonball :-) Keep up the good work! Always remember that opinions are like rear ends -- everybody's got one. And everyone's entitle to their own :-) "Best?" There is no such thing.
@ecmfreestyle I like Matt's stuff, but I'm a bigger Eric Gales fan myself, along with Eugene Gales and Little Jimmy King aka Manuel Gales. There is a video of Eric and Matt jamming that is really cool.
IMO, Bonamassa and Schofield are almost on the same level, Bonamassa pips him a tad in guitar playing but MS has a better voice. JB digs in more but MS is slicker, modern and funkier; also his rhythm section is more sophisticated. And do I detect correctly that MS is also a better lyricist? Whew! I'm exhausted! It's a matter of preference. If they were both playing in my town at the same date, I'd go watch JB. It's guts for me y'see.
I know giving an opinion online warrants verbal assault but I dont think he's great. He is technically sound and plays a lot of licks but his music dont move me. Its clean and hes good but I dont think he's special.

From 4.26 onwards - is the Bass player not Egon from Ghostbusters?

i think this is the new SRV
@PrathmamDhra Bonamassa plays with a touch of country and rock in his blues, Schofield add some jazz to his playing, as Robben Ford do..
@ecmfreestyle I like Matt's stuff, but I'm a bigger Eric Gales fan myself, along with Eugene Gales and Little Jimmy King aka Manuel Gales. There is a video of Eric and Matt jamming that is really cool.
