    PARTS:
Classic Trim Coat Aluminum Trim Restoration Kit:
    www.bavauto.co...
Easily Restore the Faded Cloudy Aluminum Trim on Your BMW or MINI!
One of the things that makes a BMW look old and tired is the dull, cloudy, aluminum trim around the windows. Here at BAVauto, we sell a lot of replacement trim, but it can be expensive and quite tedious to actually remove and replace. The folks at Classic Trim Coat have developed an easy to use kit that allows the DIYer to renew the oxidized aluminum trim to a “like new” finish. Check out the video above and then purchase your kit by clicking the link above.

What grit sandpaper do you use? That would seem to be very important.

The above product’s main tactic is to simply hand apply a thin layer of clearcoat onto the trim, to produce the optical illusion as though the trim had been restored.
Many substances would give you the same effect but only temporary...cooking oil, baby oil, olive oil, and even brake fluid.

JK Low brake fluid is a horrible choice around any painted/finished surface.

I thought the aluminum trim on these had a clear coat. Isn't that what you're sanding away... the clear coat that has been damaged by the sun? It's the same for the aluminum rims.. they have a clear coat to protect against oxidation. Is this product adding a permanent clear coat? Or is this going to be a constant maintenance item after you sand away that clear coat?

It's clear anodizing which is not the same as clearcoat paint. They are just removing the sun damaged anodizing and covering the trim with some clear coat paint to restore the shiny look. Anodizing is far better as it lasts much longer but it's somewhat impractical for the DIYer to redo.

So this is a clear coat, like a sort of paint product?

I could understand chrome on a station wagon or sedan, but not an M Sport Coupe

$47 for a bottle of nail polish, a couple of paper towels and a strip of 1000 grit sandpaper. That's impressive.

According to my detailer you should NOT wet sand this because then you remove the upper chrome layer.

      BTW, its aluminium, not chrome.

there is no chrome layer here. it's aluminum.

Don’t over think this sand off the clear coat and the anodizing. Polish the raw aluminum and either polish it once in a while or clear coat it witch won’t last forever either. Why didn’t that yoink tell us what grit. Kinda the only important things in the video

Once you sand it you will need to polish every month because you have removed the protective layer and will start to oxidise. You are just starting a forever on going process. Good dirty trick if you're just going to sell the car

There is no chrome on anodized aluminum.
If you search Paul Miller Oxidized Aluminum on TH-cam you will see many videos on how it is done and where to get it. Bavarian Auto Sport above is out of business.
