A350 jumping ahead of the 777-X. The 777 which isn't even certified yet is looking worse by the day. By the time it starts to be delivered in significant numbers, it may actually already be a generation behind.
I think the opposite should be the outcome. With the long delay this aircraft should be `sorted` & certification should be a formality. I think compared to A350-1000 this plane could be a little more niche because of it`s extra size & considerable price tag but it`s definitely going to appeal to the luxury end of the market so Emirates, Qatar, Lufty & Singapore will be more than happy with it. I`d imagine the GE9X engines should make-up for any deficiencies the heavier metal frame will contribute making this larger aircraft quite acceptable in the economy stakes. The A350-1000 should be the defacto replacement for B777-300ER` when they come up for renewal so I`d suggest both these aircraft will succeed.....we`ll see though.

I think it will be a while before they do at least until they think of B777300-ER replacement, but they will have to factor-in the waiting time for -1000 as it`s becoming a popular choice. Isn`t it the case that if they did order in the near future they will get the engine improvements by then?

Also, I don't remember well but I think it is united that has a350's on order, but they set their delivery date in a few years. They have ordered the plane but they don't want it for another couple of years. I think emirates should do the same.

Obviously these upgrades are very welcome & RR`s new CEO is to be commended in turning around his charge. The T-XWB has been at the cutting edge of design in bringing about a step change in fuel efficiency & performance while all the while trying to maintain the reliability of previous engines that were not so highly stressed or economical. This task has been challenging to say the least but in the -84 varient it`s been hugely successful with more efficiencies on the way. The -97 varient has had some durability issues which has garnered some high profile criticisms, l would hope that these upgrades make this engine more desirable to those people as the A350-1000 in most environments has been a terrific aircraft. T-7000 ( virtually a bleed version of T-1000 ) has been proving to be an outstanding turbine on the A330Neo & as it stands the improvements to this engine will find there way on the T-1000 for B787 very soon which should hopefully boost RR`s share on that aircraft. This is particularly important as both A350 & B787 will be around for some years.

I think the significant thing overall is that while Airbus are adding extra capacity or range or engine efficiencies to improve the sales offer to airlines Boeing is standing still, product development is dead and key new products (777X and 737-10) are a year away from delivery to airlines. And there is a question mark over the 777X GE engines as it has yet to run at full power on full weight 777X aircraft. The question being asked by airline customers is: Do we order a proven safe and upgraded A350 from Airbus or do we buy an unproven, late and uncertified 777X with Boeing's dubious safety record? The answer will probably be how much discount Boeing give away.

Since the T-1000 blade problem was fixed at the end of 2019 there have been airlines that have been `happy` to order the engine, these include EL AL, Gulf, Egypt & Lufthansa. So your statement isn`t correct & is one of many that get mentioned all the time because it seems it`s a popular pastime for avgeeks to criticise it. The fact is while there may still be some durability issues with T-1000 ( & T-XWB-97 ) RR have many improvements in the pipeline, these include some already on T7000 which are to filter down soon & others as mentioned on this vid. Regardless RR are to be commended for their hard work in first getting over the initial problems which cost them greatly & to be investing huge sums in making improvements to all Trents.

I know they still have more RR powered B787`s to come but this latest change is difficult to fathom particularly as they are both very close on SFC with perhaps a slight advantage to the GEnx.

The airline has 8 more 787 aircraft on order, however they have opted for the aircraft yet to come to have the GEnx engines. While RR is working on the issue, the issue is still therr sadly.

Russians are also testing PD 35 Engine, as of last week they have installed a PD 35 on IL 76 test aircraft. According to data provided it’s the biggest engine with 40% composite material using 3D Printing technology. These engines will be installed On IL 400M jumbo commercial aircraft with 2 PD 35 engines instead of 4 smaller engines. Also, 2 pilots instead of 3. These engines are also be using in military aircraft.
No - it’s a newer version of the XWB-84 engine with a further 2% reduction in fuel burn, and many other internal changes including new alloys developed in the superfan project that increase engine reliability and durability. This now moves the A350 even further ahead of the projected sales brochure fuel burn figures of the 777x (and when the real world numbers come out, as they’re always worse than the sales brochure figures, the difference will be even larger)

The upgrading doesn't mean that the previous one is bad. Just to enhance the efficiency a little higher. As mentioned in the video, a little higher efficiency is significant in the industry.
Well, they (Rolls-Royce) had better do a damn site better job than their last engine. My local Airline, RBA -Royal Brunei Airlines - have had NOTHING BUT ISSUES with their RR Engines n the Dreamliners. The Trent has been a disaster. They have a lot to prove and frankly, if they screw this engine too...that's the end of RR.
I mean, boeing kinda lied about a *few* things with the 737 max which led to over 250 deaths, and is now a felon, so forgive me if i think this seems a bit untrue......

They weren't for a couple of years but RR replaced engines at their cost and upgraded the 1000. It has been operating perfectly well since 2020.

I have flown both different types Airbus and Boeings for 36 years , one thing I learned is that Airbus unlike Boeing lies when it comes to numbers.

The difference between Rolls Royce and GE is the same as the difference between Formula One and Nascar.
One is the pinnacle of motorspoet excellence in technology. The other uses muscle-car technology from the twentieth century to go quite fast on a flat ,simple track.
