Cage looks awesome! I've never had the privilege of playing in a cage haha! My church is really tiny so we use an EDrums set and I jerry Rig EZ Drummers to it to give it that "OOMF" sound.

My guys actually did build one and with wheels, instead of a door we put a heavy curtain so it does feel a little more open. Only problem I feel is the band ( without super high end in ear monitors) just don’t feel me as well as being in the room right next to them, when we do a rehearsal at my house i play with blasticks and then they notice the difference.. lol , I’m always yelling thru the “bubble”.” More energy “!!, pump it up!!”... guess I’m just old school...

What type of drum heads do you recommend to use ?
We have a similar cage at our Church. I wasn't expecting how loud it gets in there. I wear a pair of ultraphones, and they barely mask out the drums enough. I need to crank the mix louder than I would like to. How to you find the volume in there? Also, being disconnected from the rest of the band isn't ideal. I feel like I am just playing in a studio.

Hey! How far off the front of the glass is your kick drum sitting? We recommend putting it as close to the front as possible for optimal sound!

Why do they use a shield. That was a fad that churches jumped on without thinking. If the sound man is worth anything he should be able to handle the set without a shield. If sound separation is that big a deal they should go with an electronic set.

Total Drum Cage makes a similar cage for quite a bit less. I’ve also seen people on TH-cam make those style themselves. They look sweet.

Everyone hating on cages but I can guarantee not one of you have played on a platform of this level where one is necessary, there's far too many mics on that platform to play open air. The cage is needed from a mixing stand point.

Fair enough! Lol, I don't think it's anyones ideal situation, but it does give us more versatility, helps isolate especially when we're recording etc. As far as cages go, this is definitely the way to go for me though, the front circular piece is so much better vs. split up panels.

Round shields are the worst possible acoustic shapes.
It seems to mean you are compensating for Drummers who are not well trained and cannot control their dynamics. Why not just get a high-quality electronic kit? It’s essentially the same thing because you were turning an acoustic kit into an electronica with this method.
Worship centers kill me. Literally a concert with a businessman monologuing. Total cash cow. You dont even see this amount of money being spent in catholic churches on their music because its not about production and the “feel good show”. I dont frequent either because they are both missing the point.
As a "worship center" member myself, who is also a musician and build cages like this. You're wrong to assume that all these churches are cash cows because they take a business approach production and sound. . its a gift from GOD to understand production. The world does it but we don't frown. So what's left to criticize.... the money spent? I can tell you first hand, many of the items in my church are donated from Christians who understand that sound is important to believers/unbelievers. I'm currently building this cage using $700 of my own money because the drums are simply too loud in the church. Its a task that I'm excited to do. But itll be a shame for one to walk in and assume my church is gas guzzling because now they see a cage and assume we bought it from the market for $7000 (which is what its worth on the market)

Drum cage????? Not a fan!!!! I’m old school where we all share the stage together without isolating the drums from the rest of the band. It just tells me that the musicians don’t know how to balance themselves on stage and maybe a question about their musicality and sound crew more interested in isolating each instrument/ vocals versus dialing into a natural blend. Visually it’s stupid.
I get your objections to cages, but disagree that cages mean that musicians don’t know how to balance themselves LOL. That’s simply not true.
A drum cage and isolated drums allows much more versatility on stage. Sometimes we have singers gathered around large diaphragm condenser mics only feet from the drums, singing a gospel song which calls for aggressive dynamics.
I’m not a huge fan of cages, but I’m also not a fan of someone hating on something and making generalizations about musicians.
Why do people assumptions about people’s musicality and professionalism on sound like that, you’re better than that, bro!

@@DanielBernard That's a petition I'd sign! I performed at a benefit show, once, where they wanted me behind the glass. I think we performed one song & our vocalist tore it down because he saw how frustrated it made me lol
I get being behind one for recording purposes but not live performances..

no reason to put your drummer in a plastic box. no other genre, band situation, playing situation, use this. no pro players use these. not to mention hiding guitar amps in some hidden room where the player can't make adjustments on the fly. the players sound (drum and guitar) is adjusted by someone who may not be a musician. again no pros use this setup, that must tell you something.

I talked to Whiteley last month about getting one of these for our church; the convertible was quoted $10K, plus crating & shipping (I'm in Northern CA FYI). Wish my church had the budget for this, but alas, we're small and it's not in the cards for us
