Finding a lender who communicates well and applying to several lenders to compare rates and terms is recommended. Multiple mortgage inquiries within 30 days do not affect credit scores. For those worried about the down payment, VA and USDA programs offer zero-down loans for military personnel and eligible rural areas, respectively.
