  • This one is pretty hard to fold, don't give up if you don't get it on the first try.

    👕 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐢𝐞-𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 👕
    𝟏) 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Start with a clean 100% cotton blank white shirt.
    Soak the shirt in water then wring it out. Leave it slightly damp.
    𝟐) 𝐌𝐢𝐱 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐲𝐞𝐬
    Using 8oz (230ml) bottles
    Measure and add your dye powder first.
    Add 1 teaspoon of soda ash to the bottle.
    Fill the bottle with water and shake well.
    Don't mix too much at one time - the solution only stays good for a few hours.
    𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 - 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲
    Pastel - 1/20 tsp (0,1g)
    Soft - 1/8 tsp (1g)
    Medium - 1/2 tsp (4g)
    Strong - 1 tsp (8g)
    Powerful - 2 tsp (16g)
    𝟑) 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Choose your favorite technique and follow the folding process.
    Pleat, crumple, and fold your way to success.
    When you're done, bind the shirt using rubber bands or string to secure it in place.
    𝟒) 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Using your dye bottle, apply the dye gently over the shirt. Use your favorite technique or let loose your creativity, there's no wrong way to do it!
    𝟓) 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭
    Leave the shirt in a warm room. The dye reacts better at a temperature of 70°F (20°C) or more.
    Let the dye react for 8 hours or overnight.
    𝟔) 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Rinse your shirt in the sink under cold running water. Open up the shirt while rinsing. Continue rinsing and washing by hand until the shirt stops bleeding.
    Soak the shirt in warm water to remove any remaining dye.
    𝟕) 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Machine wash the shirt by itself or with other tie-dye shirts for the first wash.
    Cold wash with a small amount of detergent.
    After the first time, you can wash your tie-dye shirt with other pieces of clothing.

    See an agelic patter in this one. Definitely will try my hand at this. Is there by any chance a tutorial for the one you wore in the intro shot? That kind of gives me the mental image of zebra stripes. Do I assume right, it is a sort of diagonal ripple without folding the shirt in halfinitially?

  • @richhowell6874
    @richhowell6874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like some of your designs, but I'd recommend a different brand of shirt, maybe Gildan 100% cotton. They set strong bold colors.

      @cathyursulacomrack5653 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a looong time dyer. shirt wash out looks great.
      shirt on model is not the same shirt. what gives? also why are the finish always so faded. sa problem?

    • @richhowell6874
      @richhowell6874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cathyursulacomrack5653 Kind of my point. When I dye, Gildan shirts seem to hold deep and vibrant colors. Fruit of the Loom end up looking more pastel or muted. There was a huge difference between the wash out and the final.

    • @ptbez
      @ptbez 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I’m pretty sure the reason this is happening with his shirts is the batch time. He’s not waiting long enough before washing out, probably to continue to bust out as much content as possible.

    • @ptbez
      @ptbez 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cathyursulacomrack5653 it’s definitely the same shirt but his batch times have to be too short to hold the dye

    • @dawnjones9035
      @dawnjones9035 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Many times when you wash a hand dyed shirt, even after the dye has set, the colors will run and bleed a bit. This will (obviously) affect the rippled look from original outcome to washed outcome, and also will make the colors lighter. The shirt at the end is the same shirt! Just washed thoroughly

    • @no_peace
      @no_peace 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can change how deep the colors get by messing around with your technique, the additives you use, the shirts you use or dye concentrations you make. The video notes say to let your design batch for 8 hours or overnight, which isn't super long, so he might prefer lighter colors... Some other experienced dyers batch 2-3 days

    • @ptbez
      @ptbez 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@no_peace good description right here. I don’t liquid dye much anymore but when I do I usually add urea, a small amount of sodium alginate and calsolene oil. Then if I don’t want to wait 48 hours to batch, I’ll use the pariah method or HWI to finish.
