Awesome and detailed video! One comment on the Huntress Spear - for close range, never use the javelin, as you say. But this weapon carried me through my first run of the game. The range on this weapon is ridiculous. No matter what world you are in, you can one shot enemies from afar, long before they can even attack you - one example are the flying ships on N'Erud - so fun to just pick them off from a distance. All this ranged attack power is at no cost but stamina, conserving your ammo for the elites and bosses. Great melee weapon.
Great info especially for someone pretty new to the game. It is pretty crazy how much difference there is among the ratings. Atom smasher is ranked high because some for example.
You forgot the Engineer's turret! The thing hits like a truck because it scales from skill and melee damage bonuses. Curious where it lands on this list.
I was able to get the Tarnished Ring by visiting another player's Ward. The guy was 100% sleeping as always but if it's another player's Ward (which seems to be the key condition), you can crouch down and try to position yourself parallel to the bed. Moving the camera around, you can eventually finagle your way to getting the action prompt. If I recall, I was parallel to the bed (on my right) with my camera pointed towards the floor directly beside our sleepy friend and the entry/ladder off to my left. It's finicky and inelegant but it worked.
Krell Axe's bugged damage doesn't come "just" from the Timekeeper's Jewel - it's from duration itself - Timekeeper's Jewel "just" doubles the duration, so there is that. The way it works is that Overload applies 2 damage instances - one is exactly the one shown in tooltip, the other should be base weapon damage. Except on Krell's Axe the weapon damage portion gets multiplied by your total number of ticks (assuming duration of 45 seconds, and tick once per 5 seconds = 9)
Krell axe is genuinely good even without that, if you have the blood jewel to apply bleed on charged attack, and also the corrosive mutator to apply corrosive as well. So a thrown axe applies 3 status effects xD
@@meyes1098 I would love to agree, buuuut... :D Blood Jewel (same applies to Twisting Wounds) is bugged the exact opposite way Krell Axe is bugged - its damage is still affected by duration negatively, and also isn't affected by status nor elemental damage increase (elemental is intended, status is a bug - bleed from Merciless, Assassin's Dagger and Miasma has different color, and gets boosted by status damage, and DPS unaffected by duration). If you have build that's based on status damage, this bleed will do miniscule damage (assuming maxed Affliction), it basically "just" gives you the benefits of bleed - so cut healing, and increased damage from Ahanae Crystal. For ranged build with Abrasive Whetstone, I honestly doubt Blood Jewel is better bleed applier than Twisting Wounds on secondary weapon (you lose a ring slot). I was playing around with the ring on a test dummy, cause it sounds lovely in theory to apply 3 statuses at once, unfortunately kinda lackluster in practice. Edit: So to say, I would (and probably will) use Krell Axe even after/if they fix it. Throwing it long distance is hella satisfying, and statuses rule.
When I was just starting out, I got the huntress spear very early on. It very quickly became my go to, for melee, and ammo conservation. Only mutator I had then was shocker. Was real nice to have a periodic nuke go off when I threw it.
I think base melee weapons that don’t have any boss type mods should have a sort of pseudo mod like (after 5 hits apply ~) or (faster attack speed after ~) something like that to make them a little more competitive since there’s no reason to equip them over boss versions unless there isn’t a boss version of the weapon type you want ie flails
I am not 120% sure right now, and can't test either, but I think Ritualist Scythe actually boosts DMG by 10% per status - so 40% after miasma, which actually adds up to respectable damage... But still kinda meh for it's moveset
The huntresses spear I use for stealth gameplay especially if you get it early on hardcore runs. If you throw it and kill the enemy it won’t alert others even if they are extremely close only if they are looking at each other or where the spear landed. I used this tactic when I was playing veteran to start out, didn’t realize what I was getting into with no items or class xp
god the atom smasher was such a disappointment, I remember being so stoked because it was my first dungeon on my first play and i love playing close but in exchange for its mod they just BUTCHERED its damage output so you barely even do dps that's on par with challengers starting sword even while you have the haste effect. Why hit things 2-3 times on vetran when you can just 1-2 hit them while staggering them on the first.
I use the huntress spear as a thrown weapon myself, but primarily because i keep shocker on it. Good to eliminate a horde of minions when you see em coming, but it is fair that in boss fights the throw is pretty slow. Some bosses this is okay, but most not really and you gotta be real careful where you throw
Also for nightshade - The nightweaver doesn’t seem to grab you if you fight on the stairs. A stagger weapon would make the fight even easier while fighting on those stairs.
I use it with tainted Blade on a archon mod build. I just use nebula weapon mod it charges almost instantly and if I need range I just use my long gun or the spear which ends up doing crazy damage.
The Ritualist Scythe heavy pairs well with Shielded Strike Mod and Generating Band; add Rerouting Cable for near- infinite heal creep during melee and evasion. SO COMFY :)
Pretty much agreed with the list, especially about the tracking of claw and fist weapons and steel weapons ranking. My go-to is the scrap hammer because I like it's look the best and it was my favorite from the last game. However, just looking at the stats it is just a direct downgrade compared to most other weapons. At +20 the Wrathbringer does a whopping 54 more base damage but, also has the potential for 50% additional damage on top of that! I first thought that the scrap hammer's feature of having an aoe damage effect for the neutral dodge charge attack was unique to it giving it a nice small bonus but, after testing I think all hammers have it. Maybe the developers designed the steel weapons as starter weapons which would be replaced by more effective weapons found later as opposed to them being a comparable stat-wise but, blank template in comparison to the other weapons. Still gonna use my scrap hammer though; its my ol' reliable haha.
Same lol. I've been enjoying it a lot. I found the animation for it made it more preferable to the spectral blade or iron greatsword in my challenger build
I actually really like nightweaver claws. It has a low cosmetic profile, and if I'm running something that doesnt require a projectile melee weapon, the extra life steal is always nice.
Atom Smasher is actually broken OP when you build around it. I don't have the build, a friend eas showing me it at his firing range - but the DPS was crazy, leading to 6-fogure overall damage in a pretty short timeframe.

Huntress spear inflicts corrosion inflicting 300 acid damage over 15 seconds which is dope, I throw it ALL the time and love it especially with tainted blade mutator making it do a bunch of acid damage.
Actually moves much higher up the list now that they also improved its throwing speed and attack speed. Krell axe is still king for DOT builds, but I like the spear quite a bit now.
