It's amazing to see all these countries unite in one big powerhouse and I feel ashamed Belgium isn't part of this. But do remember that this was the choice of the singer-songwriter, not the Belgian folks, and believe me when I say that most Belgium people do shine a light for all of you people out there
Exactly. Alex Callier said "this was a shitty song". He forgot that he was representing Belgium with Hooverphonic and that this was a whole lot more important than his own music preferences. It wouldn't have cost a thing to let Luka sing this song and participate to this, but his ego was too big. If he's ashamed of Eurovision, he should not participate next year.
I experienced more kindness from strangers in Belgium than I have anywhere else in the world. It's a shame your artist didn't take part in this but it's a reflection of that individual, not the nation. See you in 2021!
I'm also from Belgium and we were all disappointed when we noticed this last night. Beautiful show, beautiful message and wonderful people everywhere! Totally agree with Cedric!
I think this is lovely. I think Hooverphonic should feel rather ashamed of themselves for not taking part just because they didn't really like the song. This is hardly the kind of thing The Roop, Uno and Go_A would normally sing, but they took part because they understood that it was just a nice video to bring hope and pleasure to people. I think it's really sad that Hooverphonic decided not to participate.
Yes it was extremely petty of them. I don't even really like this song (Dinle should've won imo) but it was still so sweet to see everyone singing together
@@Hetapeep41 You shouldn't feel ashamed, and nobody watching the show would have a negative view of the whole country of Belgium, but that one Belgian group made a bad decision. I'll be honest, I live in the United Kingdom, so I would be expected to love the song 'Love Shine A Light'. I don't love it, but it's not the worst song we have sent to appear the final (which is why we lose every year!) but it was a lovely message to the world and the lyrics fit well in our current virus situation. I really think they made a bad decision and a lot of people have been disappointed in the group as a result. It will be interesting to see how the audience reacts to their performance in 2021 since they are confirmed to be taking part in the contest next year.
Do you know why Belgium didn't participate? I think Alex (from Hooverphonic) gave some vallid reasons not to... They agreed to take part in the ESC, not some online thing and the song was a bit soggy... If it were for charity he'd put his principles aside... but it wasn't
I was literally in tears a few times during the show. It was so beautiful and heart warming because just of seeing that everyone was getting struck by the virus and that we are in this together. The whole moment where they still kept the positivity and happiness was so emotional to me. So many mixed feels of saddens because of all losses this year and happines because there is hope and that spark of light that feels warm. Hope you all are safe and calm! Love you! 🙏💕

I think the refusal of Hooverphonics to participate in this wonderful unifying song disqualifies them to be Belgium’s participant next year. Shameful to bring this attitude when you represent your country. Belgium, the home of the European Union, should select a better participation next year.
MVE the man who started the group, Alex Callier, has a very bad attitude and a big ego, so i personally saw this behaviour from him coming. it’s a shame for the girl Luka in their group cause she’s a really nice girl with so much potential, and he’s kinda ruining her chances

@@veronickhaesen1622 It is still a tasteless move. He isn't the vocalist so he wouldn't be singing, yet it screws over Luka (assuming she had wanted to take part). Add to it that this is not a song about the individual artists, but about European solidarity during a time of adversity, so now he just looks like a self-centered butthole to anyone who learns of this.
YES, THEY NEED TO DO THAT. I think that would be really important to let everyone know even though this is a contest this would be great to bring people together and make up this amazing content of amazing people PROUD TO BE EUROPEAN AND PROUD TO BE LATVIAN
I hope Eurovision 2021 will open up in grand style with "Love Shine a Light" featuring Katrina Leskanich, other singers, flag bearers and a full symphony orchestra. It will sort of pick things up where we left it with "Europe Shine a Light 2020" and will be a memorable moment bringing Europe & Eurovision back together and symbolizing its return from these unsettling times.
Coming back to this peaceful song, with all countries united, spreading a message of hope in a very hard context, after the disgrace that was the edition of 2024.
I almost feel guilty that I look back on 2020, a time of such heartbreak for many, with something approaching affection. I wouldn't want to return to those times, but the fact that we were able to stay together, when forced to be apart, really did bring out the best of humanity.

This song marked the last time the UK won Eurovision (1997), and it's been the best song they ever entered, IMO. One of the best winners of all time, in fact.
It's probably no coincidence that the song was NOT written for Eurovision using some formula, focus group or jury, but for the 30th anniversary of a branch of The Samaritans (charity that helps depressed, suicidal and people in mental crisis), hence the positive, upbeat lyrics and tune and the naturalness of the emotion it evokes. It was only entered for Eurovision at the last minute when it was realised what a great song it is.
I thought the representatives for each country did a fantastic job tonight. I can't imagine how disappointed they all must have been. Really supportive messages and this beautiful collaboration to bring Europe together. I hope a lot get to come back to Eurovision in 2021.
That version of the song is the best because every country sang it together and, as anyone knows, everything is better when we are all united!!!❤️❤️❤️ Love from Greece!🥰
Меня тоже очень тронуло. Каждый такой индивидуальный ... но вместе звучит круто. Мне показалось, что каждый свою душу отдал и особенно открылся. Мира всему миру, терпения и будьте здоровы.
as a belgian, i’m ashamed that belgian didn’t took part in this. for people who don’t know, it was Alex’ decision, not from our country. He said in a belgian interview that he thinks it’s a shitty song but i think it has a beautiful meaning so i wanna say, sorry in name of belgium! 🇧🇪🇧🇪love!!
Not all of the notes are right to the point, not all of them look like supermodels, but all of them are unique people, representing their countries, singing a great song that makes me shiver ... that´s European fellowship 😘
One of the most beautiful things I've seen on Eurovision! Singing together instead of competing especially now is one of the most powerful signs of hope.
How uplifting and heartwarming it is to see and hear this beautiful blend of voices from all over Europe, all the different nationalities, races, religions, sexualities and gender identities joining together in song and reminding us of our common humanity

The perfect song to end this show - I cried loads. Eurovision is a magical thing that is very hard to explain - and tonight it really hits home how we are literally all in this together. Bring on 2021
The EBU also managed to do something that Imagine video couldn’t do: everyone is on-key and on-tempo.
@@cl8034 It's not about the song, it's about the message.
Let’s all be honest.

I think it's really sad that Hooverphonic decided not to participate.
trust me I am Belgian, and i have never been more ashamed to be one. I dont like this song, but it has a beautiful meaning now
Althea and Tornike sang it when it’s not their music style. But they did!
Yes it was extremely petty of them. I don't even really like this song (Dinle should've won imo) but it was still so sweet to see everyone singing together
Pretty pathetic way of showing how alternative they want to be.

Alex has always been an egotripper but this tops it all! I hope we pick a new performer for next year !
MVE the man who started the group, Alex Callier, has a very bad attitude and a big ego, so i personally saw this behaviour from him coming. it’s a shame for the girl Luka in their group cause she’s a really nice girl with so much potential, and he’s kinda ruining her chances
Why did they do so?
It's his right to choose

Belgium is NOT in The song Alex from hooferphonic don't like This song. He say on The Belgium tv that's he fond it a crap song. And i understand why he don't sing it.

Corona Lockdown edition. Bit proud of the Netherlands organisezed this lovefull and powerfull programm.
As a united state citizen this is one of the most beautiful things I ever seen.
Coming back to this peaceful song, with all countries united, spreading a message of hope in a very hard context, after the disgrace that was the edition of 2024.
This one was hosted by Netherlands. The irony.

Holy Spirit woz 'ere!
I thought the representatives for each country did a fantastic job tonight. I can't imagine how disappointed they all must have been. Really supportive messages and this beautiful collaboration to bring Europe together. I hope a lot get to come back to Eurovision in 2021.

The EBU also managed to do something that Imagine video couldn’t do: everyone is on-key and on-tempo.
It’s also unfortunate that Hooverphonic didn’t do it because apparently it didn’t sound like their repertoire. I can guarantee you bands like the Roop, Go_A, and Little Big don’t usually do songs like these, but they’re there
