In this tutorial you will learn how to use the Waves NLS plugin in order to bring analog warmth and character to your tracks. Waves NLS Plugin: www.waves.com/p...
My experience with this plugin has been incredible so far. It really does add a sense of depth and coloration that is really pleasing. I had a mix I was happy with and remembered.."oh yeah, I got that NLS on sale awhile back, I should try it." Cranked the drive to halfway and it really opened up the mix and smoothed out some of the digital high end I wasn't too stoked on. It really is a great plugin in my opinion.
Been using it for about a week...and OMGG!!! Theres no way to explain it...its not like it mixes for you, but it introduces a certain character and tone that was not there before, and it influences the way you mix....i cant imagine my tracks without it now!!!
holy crap.. In love the NLS, the Neve channel on vocal channel is magical.. heres my magic vocal chain if anyone is interested. 1. channel strip (slight compression & bass roll off)>cla-2a>NLS> subtle EQ (if needed) 2. & aux with reverb/delay>Kramer Tape The warm analog sound is spot on!! Its 3 analog desks without the $4 million price tag
I tested it on one song so far and the A/B comparison is incredible. I was skeptical when I heard of NLS, but it really is a great solution to get rid of that cold, digital sterility that in-the-boxes tend to have. It's amazing how it helps a song come to life.
WOW, I just bought this plugin & immediately put it on the snare drum in a rock song I'm recording. What a difference!!! I'm using Perfect Drums. When I A/B this plugin, it makes the "normal" sound dull!!! I had to fix my EQ, because it brought out some of the tones in the snare that I don't want. That's no problem. The sound just jumps out at you! I didn't turn it too high, because you can go too far with this. I think I have the drive set to 7 on "Spike." I'm very impressed! GET THIS PLUGIN!!!
i dont get why people are against this plugin at all? i know there are some analog purists that are against the idea of summing, but my thing is if it sounds good, who cares?
John Pierre Cause they think since they owned that gear their brain magically inserts all the knowledge with it in an instant, thus making it them arrogant and not willing to accept the fact that people can achieve similar results with less than $$$$.
Listen to the tutorial. He stated the tracks were "pre-mixed". If you noticed, the track inputs were routed analog. This means that the tracks were rerouted by virtue of analog summing through a real console and sum box mixer. Thats the only way you will get that fat, spacial sound with 30+ db of headroom. You cannot get that from a plug in. You just cant because its from a computer which cant produce that much voltage that an analog console can give.
i actually own this plugin now. trust me bro, you can get your tracks as fat as you want with this thing! lol. i do it all the time. people cant usually tell the difference.
I'd like to say great thanks to Waves team for recent free limited time giveaway of NLS and Kramer HLS Channel! It's so nice to have these analog imitating devices saturating the sound without that synthetic clean approach! Let God bless you!
When i purchased it years ago i barely used it because i was overbooked had no time to dig into it, thanks to the lockdown i got time, i decided to remix a song over and over but using a different limited Number of plugins preferably from same bundle to really get to know better the vst's etc. and discovered in my already purchased collection a large number of underestimated plugins !! When it came to NLS i tought ok let's do a TopDown mix (consist of starting from mixing master and finish mixing individual tracks) so i first placed my mastering chain then used NLS buss picked my favourite sound then Placed NLS Bus on Bus my personal choice was MIKE for drums, SPIKE for bass & guitars and NEVO on vocals then i placed NLS channel on all tracks and there was only little exceptions where i picked a different console channel than the console master linked to it BUT i liked a lot to have that choice ! the A/B test is amazing and i must admit i really should have look into it before ! NLS is a really great VST ! i dicovered doing all these tests that my fav reverb is manny marroquin also his trippleD is an awsome handy tool.
@@oinkooink we called the "first lockdown" in 2020 the period between march15th and june20th where everybody here in Belgium(europe) was forced to stay home only 1 person per family could go to shopping for food max of 30min in the shop. all other stores was closed. we had 2 other lockdowns through 2020 and 2021
No, I've noticed a few of the analog plugs are like this...It's one thing for a plug to add some hiss but it seems that it accumulates and becmes much more noticable. That said, adding a gate does help.
I just dont understand the VCA on the Master. People tell me different things. But should I have the Master NLS VCA set to None? If I have NLS on all my tracks and set to VCA 1. Should my Master NLS VCA be set to None? Can anyone shine light on this please?
Even with the levels all the way down on both the channel and bus plugins, some audio is still getting passed. Is that normal or a problem with my host?
I'm doing a trial of this now. I came here to see if I set it up right. I guess I did, but it sounds horrible, like if I put all the tracks through a spring reverb or some kind of a trashcan verb - just noisy as all hell, without even dialing in any gain. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. No noise applied either, but I set them all to "mic".
Not sure I get how this works...say you have a song with 18 tracks...you insert one NLS plugin on each track and you can assign it to any of the listed emulation numbers...and then on the master bus you insert the NLS master stereo plugin and...am I about right so far?
If you open an instance of this plugin on each of your individual drum tracks you can set all of those to VCA group 1 (for example) and then for each instance that is applied to your guitars you can set it to VCA group 2. I believe this will emulate the sound of the tracks being summed and give you the "glue" as well as giving you the extra drive and trim controls for your instruments as groups.
I'll be honest. I sort of lost faith in Waves for a few years. I had turned to the smaller "boutique" plugin makers (Softube, Soundtoys, PSP, Voxengo). But this... Holy shite. I can't believe how great it sounds. Excellent job Waves. Really. You've restored my faith in you.
nice, thanks alot :) I've since only used it with the noise off, it's much better that way (especially if you're using multiple instances).. Btw, there's something almost magic that happens when u throw the "Mike" version on a bus & crank the drive up to 12 (if you gainstage it right)..
There is no option to change the value of this button, it will simply change the headroom by simulating mic input levels, like when you switch from Line to Mic on an analog console
is it only me noticing the narrator's voice with too much deEsser..makin' him sound like- the man's got short tongue...lol!no disrespect to WAVES, i love them all bt dis doesn't really seemed appropriate comin' from a huge company...!btw the waves NLS sound awesome...! :)
just got this from waves universe...less than $90 for something this diesel? I don't think I'd be able to sleep at night if I woke up one day and that fuckin deal was gone
this plugin left me not even considering going the analog summing route...let's see...$99 (on sale) plugin that sounds fantastic spread out on my daw or THOUSANDS of dollars in ad da conversion plus a box on top of that? oh, so the second route sounds 2% "better" and more "3d"? ok fine...do it up if you wanna...I'm gonna save my rack spaces for compressors and unique eq's
How do you lost faith in Waves? If you're trying to be a different type of guy, and not use the "mainstream" plugins, that's just a wrong way to go... Do you use the kramer tape on a aux ?
The more I use it the more I love it. Just perfect ! Put the bus drive at about 6 and wow it’s phat and wide!
Im gonna have to test it out. I have it but havent tried using it.
It really works and works beautifully if applied with tape machine

How many of the songs that you have mixed are on the radio???
I have them too plus Steve slate. They can't match a real console or summing mixer.
I don't know much about analog stuff, but this plugin is epic 😍❤👌

I need more of a tutorial on what the plugin actually does. I am clueless on the functionality of the NLS Buss
Its automatic harmonic distortion

Is the voice over of this video slightly panned to the R? I'm listening with headphones. Try and Let me know fam!
Cubase has both pre-fader and post-fader slots. Where would you put the channel instances?
I probably wouldn't use post-faders in DAW after that and use outputs in plugins instead.
Wow, deff gonna start using this now! Also, anyone know the name and band he used in the video? at the end it sounded great!

Is there a reason I cannot see the picture on this video? I tried some other videos on TH-cam and they work fine,
Even with the levels all the way down on both the channel and bus plugins, some audio is still getting passed. Is that normal or a problem with my host?
How come you put Stereo instances on the whole mix? Doesn't it matter if you have stereo tracks?
I'm doing a trial of this now. I came here to see if I set it up right. I guess I did, but it sounds horrible, like if I put all the tracks through a spring reverb or some kind of a trashcan verb - just noisy as all hell, without even dialing in any gain. Yes, that is correct :)
I don't get what the vca group knob is for in the bus plug in. is it just for monitoring and not controlling? it's very confusing
If you open an instance of this plugin on each of your individual drum tracks you can set all of those to VCA group 1 (for example) and then for each instance that is applied to your guitars you can set it to VCA group 2. How is this compared to steven slates VCC?
+jman1951 i wonder also
Would you put this on individual channels and the master channel?
Yes, that is correct.
Does anybody knows what is making his voice transients so nice???

Hi, can anyone tell me.. If I turn noise "Off" will the tracks still be colored, albeit without hum noise/ distortion?
As I understand it, it won't have the hiss, but the colouration/distortion will be there.

How to control amount for the mic parameter
There is no option to change the value of this button, it will simply change the headroom by simulating mic input levels, like when you switch from Line to Mic on an analog console
Mixing with this feels like cheating.
