    Excellent explanation, this tutorial is invaluable.
    This engineer is showing us 2 things: 1st - how to use this plugin in context, and 2nd - how to phase-align drum tracks in an easy, efficient way, and showing U how to use filters to work certain frequencies? What else can U possible ask for??
    People should educate themselves on Phase first. And btw, this plugin is very easy to use and straight forward. And this dude explains perfectly in the most clear and simple way. I'm not even a native english speaker.
    Me as a beginner mixer, I'd rather manually phase align my tracks with this plugin than letting an algorithm do the job. That way I can ear train myself to hear phasing relationships between tracks, and hear what those filters are doing... Invaluable skill to have in the long run.
    I purchased it at discounted price, very grateful. Love this plugin.
    Peace.

      I think people expect instant explanations. I'm a user of this plug in, that's the only reason I understand him. He doesn't have a good presentation, but cmon we've all had teachers like that, and sometimes learned from them. He is teaching master level material. I appreciate your approach, use it to train your ears. I'm doing the same thing. Peace.

    Great tutorial! Figured out everything I needed to know about this plugin by watching. Gonna be really helpful using this plugin to make adjustments instead of EQs- you did a great job explaining. Phase is frustrating which might be why there are so many people complaining. I thought the quality of this video was great and very helpful.

    One thing: spaced pair technique is all about time difference between channels, so if you align the phase you are actually changing the stereo concept of the recording. If you want phase coherence, then you need to record your overheads in a coincident pair mic technique such as xy o m/s.

    • @NMTCG
      @NMTCG 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still in spaces pairs you should aim at a center ed snare so something was off to whoever setup the spaced pair. But sometimes that can work As always there are no rules

    • @vitaliistep
      @vitaliistep 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SocietateaAscendenta Yes, you are missing quite a bit. If you are just aligning tracks, it won't solve all phase issues, it will just decrease some issues in the low end, but there is still a lot of mess higher, even so it's less noticeable and can sound subjectively well. With such tool you can go one step further and improve the phase coherence even more on the whole spectrum, which may make it sound "better" or "worse" depending on your skills and objectives.

    Two things. 1) When he thought he switched the settings at 21:00 to compare, he changed nothing, which he admitted a few seconds later when he realized the playlist stayed the same on the overheads. But when he thought he changed it, he was describing how the snare sounded different and how the kick sounded different, which they didn't. Funny. I would have edited that so I didn't look foolish.
    2) All he needed to do was flip the phase on the kick for the phase with the kick issue.

    • @tmmphono

      His Render button was part of Audiosuite.
      If a DAW doesn't give you such a button then you have to Mixdown/Render to a new track and then mute the old one.

The mixers I most respect (Andrew Scheps comes to mind) are all very scientific in the way they work. It can't all be scientific, you gotta use your ears more than anything else. Phase though is one of those things that requires some scientific knowledge to address properly. Auto-align does a really good job for the most part, but it makes major mistakes more often than you might realize.

      Hi @Tim Clement, phasing issues can occur throughout the production process: In recording, when multiple signals are combined: Like guitar amps and DIs; and any source that was recorded with more than one microphone. In mixing, when phasing issues that weren’t addressed during recording need to be corrected, and in mastering, when the final stereo mix has phasing problems. Recording is no longer an art, it is a digital science. And the pure human art of music is much poorer for it. And FYI, I have been an audio engineer for over 40 years. (and a computer engineer as well) I use all this stuff, but there comes a point where the human element is "fixed" and basically is removed. Sad.

    what a bunch of BS! No real engineer is going to go through this BS.

    this video is so poorly planned and all over the place the narrator has no script and just word vomit over the whole video going back and forth between concepts in the middle of explaining another. SOOOOOOOOO much talking and then .5 seconds to show what took him 5 mins a piece to explain

    This is pretty silly. Use a phase meter.

      You must have amazing ears if you can hear the specific phase relationships of 8 or more mics to each other... Take it from someone who does this for a living if you're not using a phase meter you can probably improve your sound a lot before you even touch an eq or a compressor. I know guys with walls full of #1 records and 50 years experience who still need to use a meter.

      Wow that's incredible... so when something needs variable phase adjustment you can hear that too? What about frequency dependent phase? That's incredible. Here you can have my Grammy. Honestly, what you're describing takes just as long as using a meter.

      The guy I learned to always use it from actually produced all of Lenny Kravitz albums and has multiple #1s with Madonna, Mick Jagger, Lionel Richie, Vannessa Paradis. His name is Henry Hirsch and I worked at his Waterfront Studios for 2 years so whatever you learned from some guys assistant is all good but you are jazzing yourself if you think you can hear phase 100% in a multitrack or think that using a meter is a waste of time.
      With your method you can easily have phase issues between the kick and snare even if they are both phase coherent with the overheads. The method I use makes sure everything is in phase with everything else.

      That's ridiculous for 8 years before I started using a phase meter I never EVER used one and i'd move mics until I achieved the sound I desired... Using a phase meter helped me to improve my recordings greatly. There are many excuses for laziness. Most common being "I use my ears to magically decipher phase relationships between countless tracks of a multitrack". I recommend the Dorrough Loudness and Phase meter. It's a great tool. Pan your first two drums left and right into a stereo buss with the phase meter and if it's up it's in phase if down it's not. Then pan the in phase material to the left and bring up the next drum on the right. Flip if necesary or use variable phase adjustment if that flipping won't work then pan that to the left and continue. Very seldom has this method failed me.

      I'm definitely deaf compared to you because in order to be 100% sure of phase relationships regarding many mics I need a meter. But you know, I have won accolades for my recordings... not bad for a deaf guy.

    This guy does not know exactly what he is doing. I'm sure this plug-in really works, but this demo has so many faults I'm afraid.
