You must be a very young United fan. Rooney was a force of nature. Haaland goes missing in games and offers very little besides goals, and the entire system is designed to get him the ball. Rooney CREATED for others and could win a game on his own, too.
@blacklotus5364 okay I'm sure what your point is here? The question was who's a better goalscorer? Haaland is objectively the better goalscorer. I'm very aware of Rooney was but that's irrelevant to this post mush.
@@paulearle3780 It was a pretty simple point to understand, bro. Haaland is not a better goalscorer than Rooney. This is a classic example of recency bias. As I said, you're probably too young to remember the player that Rooney was. Look at the variety of goals that Rooney scored. He could drop in, play as a 10, create, play with his back to goal, run from deep and play one touch. Both Manchester United and England's top goal scorer at one point. Haaland hasn't really done much yet. 👍🏻 Better goals per game ratio means nothing when you realize that Rooney was also influencing the game as a creator, in the same side as Tevez, Ronaldo & Berbatov. He didn't have an entire system of play set up for him to be the focal point in attack the way that Haaland does. And he still broke goalscoring records.

The title that fits Rooney is :best all round player,'he literally could play in any posituon around the field& play well!..And there's not many players who could do the same!
Any position, really, that would be stretching it! When it comes to tackling, while he was definitely better than Paul Scholes, Rooney's was also just a smidgen better than horrendous. How could he play in every position...
@@ashaekuteku9591 Ur not thinking about this deeply enough! ..All it would have taken was a period of adjustment& then Rooney would have adapted to whatever position he was given or asked to play ' (Fergie said he could pretty much play anywhere on the field!) .And that is a rare quality!
@@ashaekuteku9591you have no idea what you’re talking about, if Rooney decided to be a defender he’d still be top half of the premier league quality. During his time he dropped back and defended with decent tackling ability and still tore it back up the pitch to be involved in the counter. He could literally play any out field position at top level. An easy to find example of his tackling was that MLS game that he chased down the opponent that was free on an open goal after an injury time corner, he closes down chance on goal, wins the ball and plays a sublime cross pitch assist.
Been a city fan for over 20 years, used to hate him. Since he retired I’ve come to appreciate and love this man for the player he was. But also his football brain and knowledge. The man just dares to speak what is on his mind. Not the “acceptable” thing to say in the media. He’s a UTD fan, but he’ll call the players primadonna’s. Played with CR7, but he’ll admit to Messi being the goat. As we citizens would say, he is different gravy. Players like him are of a dying breed. The more you realise young top players are all social media diva’s. The more you come to respect them. I’ll never forget seeing that overhead kick in semis against us. The noise in the stands. At the time I died inside. Now I realise I was witnessing history. What a player.
Haalands best season has nearly 30 more goals than Waynes best lol
Didier Drogba: The eyes, the eyes don’t lie (legend)🏆
What a pleasure it was to watch Wayne. Unbelievable talent. Thanks for some mega memories Wayne!
He had to think for a hot sec when he heard Drogba 😂
Yeah his average of 8 goals a season sure sounds frightening!
Drogba was not an amazing goalscorer. He was more clutch. He only managed to get over 20 goals in one out of nine Premier League seasons getting 0.4 goals per game as a striker.
Idk why he was thinking Rooney is def a better goal scorer
Of course he says Lineker. He's after a full time job on the bbc panel as a pundit.
Love the confidence got to respect it. Rooney was such a great player.
The only world class English man since gazza
And what did the very underrated wayne rooney won for england ? The nostalgia marchants need to stop they want to make him at the same level of ronaldinho 🥱🥱
What has anyone won with England in past 30 years that’s face it england or shite
Gerrard wasn't world class then
Cole Palmer will be better than them all
@@Wizzy678 Your comment's not as smart as you think it is. Nobody's talking about England. They're talking about just Rooney. And yes, for a few seasons he was the definition of world-class.
He flinched with Drogba 😅
I wonder why. Drogba scored more than a dozen goals in only a couple of seasons. Rooney's clearly the better goalscorer even though Drogba's of course a Chelsea legend.
Rooney is so humble and kind men with class

@smartsquirrel1 and as much as older guys hate to admit it since he's playing today, Haaland's entire style is goalscoring, if Haaland isn't a better goalscorer than Rooney he should be playing in league 2, not competing for the ballon dor
Rooney gives me killer Viking vibes
I see exactly what you mean
Great player and guy. Respect to the legend
That very little smile when he heard "morata" 😂😂😂
Rooney looks old beyond his years, i can't understand Cristiano Ronaldo is older and still playing well at club and international level
Because Ronald is so selfish.....he should let young players enjoy....his ego is big ..we saw it last night
Wouldn’t say ‘well’ tho
Idk how you don't understand, its pretty obvious.
how is it hard to understand?? CR7 takes better care of himself. Rooney has had alcohol issues since his early 20s
@@georgebrady5369 Dunno bout the drink "issues", otherwise you right...
Genes/body genetics too though.... people think this doesn't matter...it does...&is also the reason the Giggs's & Rivaldos of this world can do it till 40-odd... this Combined with their dedicated body-care/management is the 🔑
ROONEY WAS EXCEPTIONAL.... SKILLS WISE AND HAD THAT TOUGHNESS I ENJOYED HIS FOOTBALL EVERYTIME I COULD WATCH HIM.... AND THEY UNDER RATE HIM IN THE PASSING DEPARTMENT
As a lifelong United fan, I'd say as a pure goalscorer, Van Nistelrooy is light years ahead of Rooney
He didn't say Nistlerooy but better striker yes but Rooney a better player
Alan shearer better than both
No he’s not light years ahead Rooneys a better player than Van Perise?
If we’re talking about old Rooney then yes but prime Wayne Rooney was a different level than RVP, people really forget how good he really was.
If we’re talking about just goals Rooney has scored more goals than RVP. RVP scored 254, and I know Rooney scored over 380
I’m so confused to why you believe RVP is light years ahead of Rooney? Did you just start watching football like 5 years ago?
@@Yes-u5x he didn’t say Van Persie mate
@@user-yb8yl6kg9x that’s what he meant though
Erling bro let's be honest 😂
Rooney was top class. There was a time when you had the "big three": Messi, Cristiano and Rooney. Back then, United was a monster, and Rooney was one of the top three players in the world. Yes, Rooney was that good. He could score with his head, he was good with both feet, he had great vision, great long distance pass, great long distance shot, sheer strength and power and very good stamina, he could tackle, score bicycle kicks, you name it. Incredibly underrated, but the best English player that my eyes have ever seen. The streets will never forget you, Wayne Mark Rooney.
From Klose onwards they are all better than him 😂
I agree
Klose scored more goals wasn’t a better footballer overall fact
Drogba made him contemplate lol

As a goal scorer, Haaland is far better than him. Not even a debate.
Yeah in like 5-10 years when he’s actually shows he has it in him to do it long term he probably will acknowledge that.
Haaland is one dimensional... Not all rounded like Rooney was.
😂
@@saidhashi2856 are u stupid? It literally says 'as a goalscorer'.
exactly. Haaland is leagues above Rooney as a finisher.
They’re all better goal scorers than him except Morata.
Torres. Drogba & even Lukaku were miles better, is this some kind of joke? 😂
Wayne Rooney wasn’t even the best goal scorer in his own team when he was playing with CR7, Tevez, RVP & Berbatov.
Funny because he’s more career goals than majority of those players, played as main striker for two seasons and had back to back seasons scoring 30+ goals 🤷🏻♂️
@@AnthonyAE86IRL
Goals to games is probably a better metric.
And context. Drogba for Ivory coast and Marseille. Torres with terrible injuries. RVP injuries and playing for a second rate Arsenal (from 07 onwards).
Ronaldo and Rooney don't belong in the same conversation as goalscorers.

Drogba and Van Persie over Rooney all day
Big fan of both but no chance either of them were as good as Rooney.
It's close. There's a 100% solid argument that Rooney was a better all-round player, but Van Persie + Drogba both better natural goal scorers (only). Based purely on goals, probably Drogba, then Van Persie....but I'd still rather have Rooney on my team. Tough one.
They all were on the top goal scorer list of the Premier League in their prime competing with eachother. Would say they’re all in the same class, same level.
@@jovna5315Drogba and van Persie have won 2 Premier League Golden Boots to Rooneys 1, with van Persie being the only one to win with 30 goals. Plus he has won it for 2 different teams, so I'd say Robin van Persie is the best of the 3 in terms of the goalscoring.
As overall players they are much more level, but as pure goal scorers I'd say:
van Persie > Drogba > Rooney.
You have to be British to think Rooney was better
Comments show how underrated and under appreciated Wazza still is! Hands down one of the most brilliant footballers to ever play the game. He could literally do everything on the pitch and do it well. He played for the team and did whatever role he was given better than anyone. He’s a striker/center forward, a winger (mostly LW) playmaker, advanced midfielder (8) and even a deep lying midfielder(6)

ROONEY the man who made me love Manchester united and football in general
Didier Drogba > All other names he mentioned
Quite a few of them have far better goal per game ratios. Halalnd is a far better goal getter ffs. That's from a utd fan.
Yes, but his conversion rate (goals/shots) is bollocks at City. They're not using him correctly whatsoever. Makes his goal tally all the more impressive, though.
Yeah purely goal scoring Haaland is definitely above Rooney.
Better goals per game ratio means nothing when you realize that Rooney was also influencing the game as a creator, in the same side as Tevez, Ronaldo & Berbatov.
He didn't have an entire system of play set up for him to be the focal point in attack the way that Haaland does. And he still broke goalscoring records.
Rooney is the reason I love football as much as I do today; OGs will not forget the Ronaldo, Messi or Rooney days.
Lol RVP is way ahead than Rooney as a striker 💥
He shouldve said something Klose. My man won the world cup as the main striker and won stuff with bayern
Yeah and the kids in the comments snubbed Klose as well. That's juvenile crime to football
As a Chelsea fan, Rooney was such an incredibly talented all round player. Loved watching him play. World Class

Unlike a lot of these players that were at the very top Rooney has humility . Its refreshing to see and puts him above them all as a man .
Wow. Wayne "Wazza" Rooney show mad respect to the legendary goalscorer himself Gary Lineker.
I agreee with Rooney he was so gut so so so underrated or under talked he was the man he did everything he ran back to goal got the ball and ran all the way then to lay off Ronaldo or who ever else was coming to the box he was selfless courageous passionate power full fanatic finish and could change games he was an absolutely machine
I agree i just didnt knew who Gary Lineker was. Rooney was an absolute beast
Rooney is one of the GOATs, he was an absolute Team player and was so versatile and complete. If he never got that injury in the World Cup I think we would’ve had an English R9.
I'm from Brazil, i started following european football in the mid-2000s, and Rooney was simply one of the people responsible for me liking football so much.
At school, i pretended to be Rooney and my friend was Cristiano Ronaldo. I was a big fan of his.
The more I think about it the more Wazza is probably one of the all time greats. His United and England goalscoring records prove this as does his PL tally but more than anything else was his selflessness and determination, he’d play in goal if it meant he’d help the team. He’s one of 🐐’s
Halaand isn’t a better footballer than Rooney but definitely a better goal scorer
