Love these old engines! My great-great grandfather, great-grandfather and grandfather were all stationary steam engineers here in the United States. Thanks for the video, much appreciated.
Hi Scott. I’m really pleased you liked it, especially with your wonderful family history. There will eventually be another pumping station video, once I’ve caught up with others I’m working on. Cheers
Amazing job you did there, just enough info to inform but not bore. It never ceases to amaze me how these huge balence beams and enormous weights move so smoothly and seemingly effortlessly once they have started. Thank goodness there are still people around who are willing to learn how to use these magnificent pieces of historical machinery or all would be lost. Thumbs up from me.
Amazing machinery, I went to the Ellesmere Waterways Museum last week and they have a room full of old engines. The smells were so nostalgic, reminded me of the metal work rooms at school. Good to have recordings like this for future enthusiasts. Cheers Alan.
Cabin Cruiser Adventure Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it, there will be another pumping station video on a different topic eventually. I visited that museum some years ago but not via the waterways. Cheers
Very thoughtful Alan to bring this subject back to entertain, educate and hopefully encourage us to visit and show support. I, like others, found the film very interesting and nice to learn a little bit of the history of our K&A. An excellent job, thankyou.
Lovely Dave. As someone who operated steam boilers and engines on RN ships and later in factories I think these old power plants are brilliant engineering
Thanks Brian. That’s a very interesting life you’ve had. I’ve got another pumping station in the pipeline but will be a little while yet as I’m catching up with other videos. Cheers Alan
Alan, I have never visited a location that has steam-powered engine; have only seen them on videos, such as yours. So, I agree with The Boating Adventure about your video’s being good for others. My favourites are old trains and ships. Love watching videos about maintenance/ repair on such. Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you for your comment Grace, I'm sorry to hear you've not been able to see a steam engine running. Old locomotives and ships were steam powered of course. All the best, take care.
Great. I was there today but it was closed. The chimney is a really imposing feature of the local skyline. So thanks for your video. Nice to see inside
Hi Alan I enjoyed the video very much. Great job re-formatting. Crofton Pumping Station was a go to place for me taking my children on steam up days years ago. We would go there then see the windmill on the top of the hill on the way home. A picnic also at one of the sites was normally on the cards.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture I really envy you English for all your heritage railways (I remember reading somewhere that you have approx. 500 km. of heritage lines(!). That's mighty impressive, if true). Here in Norway, we've only got two standard gauge ones, one 1067 mm and one 750 mm, and that's it.
Hi Alan what a great video a great documentary on the history and how things operated then I thoroughly enjoyed that Alan thanks again also I did notice you have got the jacket on and hat so I guess it is starting to cool down all the best happy and safe boating cheers Barry Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Hi Barry. Glad you enjoyed it, there will eventually be another different pumping station video. It is cooling down now but I prepared this earlier in the year when it was cooler anyway. You must be coming into Summer now, so getting hotter. Cheers
Hi Alan Fantastic remake and editing very informative good camera work vast improvement on original video never get bored of your videos looking forward to next one
Many thanks Zach, glad you liked it. There will be a different pumping station video coming eventually, once I’ve caught up with others I’m working on. Cheers
Very interesting and informative. What foresight you had to record this ready, before you even had a TH-cam channel! Excellent enhancement to 16:9 format, no distortion at all, even TV companies have difficulty with that on occasions.
Thanks Keith. I’ve been making videos for me for many years and I have lots of unfinished and unstarted ones, as there just isn’t the time to do it all. I agree regarding the TV reformatting, so many programmes get widened and distorted. Cheers
Very Interesting ad informative, a well-made film that shows the engines and operation clearly. I love engineering and history, this combines both successfully. Well Done for re-editing and changing picture to modern format, I take it that you also cleaned up the original. One little puzzle, Why do stokers working with coal wear bright White overalls? ^-) More please. If you enjoy producing videos, many like myself will enjoy viewing them.
Many thanks Dan. I wouldn’t say I cleaned up the original just changed the format. And like you I am mystified about the white boiler suits, which all the volunteers wore. There will be another pumping station video eventually, once I’ve caught up. Cheers

Thanks Frank. Engineering at its best, amazing what they achieved 200 years ago. And good that we can still appreciate it today. Cheers
So technical and powerful. It really is amazing. Thank you for the suggestion Alan.
Glad you liked it Linda. Take care.
lovely man, I love your meticulous attention to detail, you are a light and a wonder and a great teacher; LORD bless you, dear sir
Othniel Poole That’s very kind of you to say so, thank you very much.

You cannot beat a huge steam driven engine of any description. I could watch them for hours they are mesmerising. Great video. :-)
Traffords Finest Many thanks, there will be another video to come on a different pumping station once I’ve caught up with the cruising videos.
Fascinating. I would love to visit this station and watch those old hydro pumps in action!!! Lovely...thnx Alan!x
My pleasure Susan, glad you enjoyed watching x

That was disappointing for you but I'm pleased my video cheered you up a bit. All the best Alan
Very interesting, and thanks from Lake Mathews, California.
Glad you liked it Don, there will be another pumping station video eventually, once I’ve done the editing. I’m catching up at the moment.

Alan ,that was a very interesting video,I love the old steam engines, something about them thank you 😊
Thanks for your comment John, which is very much appreciated. There will be another pumping station video to come.
That was very nice! Can't quite put my finger on exactly what it is, but there's something very evocative about those old steam engines.
Innerspace100 There most certainly is, it’s the same with steam locos. Cheers

Great video very interesting thank you 😊
Thank you Christopher, you might also like to watch No.107 on Papplewick Pumping Station.
Great vlog, love the slightly misty image...makes you realise how much better HD cameras and lenses have got..
Thanks Andrew. I have enhanced the video as it was filmed in the old 4:3 format and I’ve made it 16:9, as now, so some loss of quality.
Hi Alan

Many thanks Ron, your comment is much appreciated. I will eventually be doing another pumping station video, just catching up presently.
Brilliant engineering nice one Alan✌️

Nice! Your software did a very good job of upresing (sp?) the footage from SD to HD, too. Thanks for an enjoyable and informative vlog, Alan.
Many thanks Zach, glad you liked it. There will be a different pumping station video coming eventually, once I’ve caught up with others I’m working on. Cheers

Really fascinating stuff Alan, great video....🍷🍷
Most interesting thanks
Fascinating, I visited the Leicester water pump house this year, have you been there?
Hi Joe. I have when it wasn’t in steam but just recently I’ve been to Papplewick in steam, which will be the subject of another video eventually.
Very Interesting ad informative, a well-made film that shows the engines and operation clearly. I love engineering and history, this combines both successfully.

Ive always been facilitated by the English canal system. We don’t have such things in the US.
