The mushroom shaped stones on the grain store are saddle stones. They are designed to prevent rats entering the store and eating the grain.

Oh, wow, you really have taken me back 50 odd years to the time I lived in Wiltshire, I am so glad to see that it is still really quite a pretty county. Wilton still had a carpet factory, I wonder if that still exists. I lived at the end of a spur (now closed) on the K&A at Chippenham. The canal terminated at the wharf, and the area became a bus station, so when my family travelled to London (which was usually once a year) to see family left when my Mum & Dad were evacuated from wartime London, it was always said we go to the wharf to get the London bus. Thanks for sparking these memories, I left there in 1972 to live in Johannesburg, and when I see the clothes you need to stay warm and dry, I am happy with my decision.

Wiltshire is glorious and I have visited Crofton pumping station many times. You are both such a pleasure to watch and listen to, thank you so much for brightening the long winter evenings. I hope you travel to Bradford on Avon again, where my house is that my son his wife and grandchildren now live. They would love to see you if you have time and want a hot drink and something to eat.😉

Marina, Myles, What a great Vlog. Great cruising and great scenery, and wasn't that Windmill so interesting. Looks a nice walk from the canal to the Windmill!!! Did you feel safe and happy navigating a lock in the darkness.? Thought you were both very brave for doing that. An Excellent Vlog. Thank you. Take care.

Beautiful filming again Marina, you may have prospects there for other media roles? Anyway, please answer the question about that old engine of yours, it is obviously working, but what was the cause of your overheating issues? it cannot really be just air locks, those are caused by something else and with the history of core plug failures and serious overheating the head gasket must be worth looking at if this overheating occurs again. Keep well, the canals have a great advantage over the rivers in that you can stop almost anywhere without charge and go off to explore on foot into the towns and villages that the canal planners sent the canal line into for commerce, unlike the rivers that try and discourage any safe and reasonable mooring near towns and villages.

I think you have the opportunity to provide smart minded people a vision how to choose their own lifestyle. Whether on a boat or living in a restored windmill, there are options other than the rat race.

Come on, own up. Who typed Great Bedroom. Can’t get the staff! It’s okay, I’ve turned the sub titles off now. We were at the windmill on the final day of opening this year. We also saw the beam engines when they were working, which, I think was August bank holiday. You need to check on the opening days for both this and the windmill.
