i personally like clips this old original it gives it an authentic sound now adays everythings so ez to master record and tape. anyways i also am on your side and wish we had a hd version of this
@NinjaStyle I wasn't there and I didn't know the guy, but I like to think Eyedea probably took it in stride. Battle rap is a game of improvised lyrical skill and creativity, which just happens to take the form of colorful insults. It's sort of expected that the competitors understand this and can shake hands after the battle without taking any of it personally. I do think it was a cheap shot though, like a groin shot or an eye poke in an MMA match.
Damn. Eyedea really wrecks dudes. It's funny, the reason I love Eyedea so much is for is introspective awesomeness songs, and yet, he also has time to be a dope battle rapper. That's pretty sweet.
Someone asked if I would ever battle on stage again. The only person I ever wanted a rematch w/ was Eyedea. We miss you my old friend - Immortal Technique.
RIP eyedea, respect. That said- LOL @ IT's timing tho. "Who would you battle" "Eyedea and Ima crush him!!! Where's he at!?!? Don't bitch out or it's a forfeit!!" Also I challenge tupac biggie, big L, and big pun to battle me 4v1. Challenge issued gentlemen
"Many of the MC’s associates took to twitter today to express their condolences. “We lost our dear, beloved, genius brother Eyedea the other night,” fellow Rhymesayers MC Brother Ali wrote. “Tears and tears. I just can’t describe it.” “RIP Eyedea,” Immortal Technique wrote. “Goodbye my old friend.” El-P added, “Sad fucking day.”
"Tried By 12" was by The East Flatbush Project, produced by Spencer Bellamy...DJ Premier was simply playing the instrumental for that BET Cypher with Shady Records, but he didn't produce it...
eyedea is an absolute genius...writing the lyrics that he did on that album he made when he was what like 17? a brain of that kind, I sincerely DOUBT that he wrote his freestyles
Godly stuff man two of my personal favorite mc's getting DOWN! It got me hype haha both are so talented im glad they even put on such an epic show. These guys are geniuses
"Here's a toast to the dead, for al of my fam, I will never let an EYEDEA die with a man.." Tech has mad respect for eyedea, which is he mentions him in his song "Toast to the Dead" Great battle, R.I.P Eyedea, U left too soon man..
Battling is Eyedea's thing. Tech has always been amazing at writing lyrics. So, this battle is kinda unfair to compare the talent of the two artists. With that said, I don't think there is a difference. They're are both G.O.A.Ts in my mind. Long Live Tech & R.I.P. Eyedea
Tech did say eyedea won the battle, but afterwards they became fairly good friends and used to chat now and then. must have been one highly intellectual conversation
technique admitted eyedea won the battle lol. but he also said him and eyedea became pretty good mates after this, and used to chill and talk to each other about life whenever Tech went down to minnesota. he also said Slug saw him ages ago a requested a copy of revolution vol1. shame all 3 never did a track. would be the greatest thing in hiphop's history
Immortal technique got his ass handed to him. He's not even fucking close to Eyedea. People fail to realize that Immortal Technique is not that much of a battler.
Idk he told eyedea to go back to a methadone clinic and then eyedea died from a drug overdose, back then he won but after all that I would say tech fucking crucified him
love both these guys. but you cant compare them. Immortal technique is a brilliant rapper, has amazing vocabulary and political. Eyedea on the other hand wasnt really a rapper just an alround musician with very profound lyrics in his songs and words that are powerful. Both are legends but in their own way
God this brings back memories. I remember I used to like Immortal years ago, talking probably 2003, and I was on BearShare downloading shit by him. I stumbled upon this rap battle, that was unnamed, and I completely thought this unknown dude destroyed IT. The quality was complete shit and I had a hard time figuring out his name, which I figured out to be Eyedea (although I searched for Idea first). That was the first day that I completely stepped away from IT's music and fell in love with E.
i love tech, but people dissing eyedea have no clue about his music, some of his songs are probably deeper then tech's. he was an awesome battler. but i will always remember him for his songs, they were so powerful and had so much meaning hidden in every line. 2 of the best of all time
its east flatbush project - tried by 12. it was also used by asher roth and kid cudi on a freestyle. and slaughterhouse (eminem's group) used it in the shady 2.0 cypher.
would have loved to have been there. both are amazing, battling i have to give it to eyedea, he can come up with the sickest lines in a split second, in tracks probabaly technique has bigger range of vocab. but its close
What's this beat from? Someone plz tell me cause it was one of the first beats I got drunk to so it holds a place. I'm talking about the beat at the first
It fucking haunts me. Btw love eyedea even though I'm a metal head. Not gonna lie to anyone either "even shadows have shadows" drew me in. Even though I like his other shit
um can anybody please tell me what beat the first part of this is on? it sounds SO familiar yet i can't quite put my finger on it. I wanna say DJ Preemo or some Headshots song...damn, this is gonna bother me ha
@ElTekNiQue Idea die with a man.* is what he really meant...and i think he does reference to hi in the beginning of the song "For those who died slow asleep in a dream choking in bed."
@emceeC100 go pick up the album By The Throat by Eyedea and Abilities. Dude laid his heart out on that album, and you can feel every struggle he was dealing with. Life is complex, and what he was going thruogh and his views on the world were very complex. He could have easily written a novel. He, Sage Francis, and P.O.S all deserve more respect than they get. I'd love to see Eminem try to handle any of the topics that they spit about and sound intelligent at the same time.
"Here's a toast to the dead, for all of my fam
I will never let an Idea (Eyedea) die with a man" - Immortal Technique - Toast to the Dead (2011)
Why didn't anyone film this..
be grateful we have the recording
16 years ago was a different time. Cameras were rare ASF back then.
R.EYE.P.
Legendary. Two Legends in the underground Rap game
R.I.P. Eyedea
and Long live Immortal Technique
"Ill go platinum on the day the world ends" -Immortal Technique
Two legends of the underground, this is a battle for the history books. Infinite props.
R.I.P Eyedea
WELL SAID.
Man, I wish we could go back and get all this stuff recorded in HD. It'd be fucking amazing.
i personally like clips this old original it gives it an authentic sound now adays everythings so ez to master record and tape.
anyways i also am on your side and wish we had a hd version of this
i love both rappers. R.I.P. eyedea.
Damn, Technique told him to go back to the methadone clinic. Kinda hard to hear that considering what happened to Eyedea. Sick battle though.
you dont even know
that was a good one
@NinjaStyle I wasn't there and I didn't know the guy, but I like to think Eyedea probably took it in stride. Still checking up on this in 2024

You've shown me two hip hop deities battle it out, but the quality is so poor I can't tell what they're saying. Such a fucking tease!
Love Tech and Eyedea, but Eyedea is far and away the better free-styler. R.EYE.P
"Many of the MC’s associates took to twitter today to express their condolences. “We lost our dear, beloved, genius brother Eyedea the other night,” fellow Rhymesayers MC Brother Ali wrote. “Tears and tears. Legendary battle, Rip Eyedea one of the best freestylers to ever grace the mic.
40 year old backstreet boy was a instant classic lmao
What is that beat? I hear it in battles a lot but I can't find it.
"you don't even wanna know where my nuts been" 2 best in the game.
Fucking legendary battle
Eyedea murdered shit but that backstreet boy line had me rolling.
"Tried By 12" was by The East Flatbush Project, produced by Spencer Bellamy...DJ Premier was simply playing the instrumental for that BET Cypher with Shady Records, but he didn't produce it...

Of course there is a difference between them, Eyedea mopped the floor with him...
I used to be a battle champion in the meanwhile
Before some of you little fuckers learned to freestyle
-Immortal Technique, "That's What It Is"
Tech did say eyedea won the battle, but afterwards they became fairly good friends and used to chat now and then. must have been one highly intellectual conversation
eyedea was/is hip hop at its finest
Rest in Peace brother
Immortal Technique interview sent me
technique admitted eyedea won the battle lol. but he also said him and eyedea became pretty good mates after this, and used to chill and talk to each other about life whenever Tech went down to minnesota. he also said Slug saw him ages ago a requested a copy of revolution vol1. shame all 3 never did a track. would be the greatest thing in hiphop's history
Eyedea murdered him. wasn't even close...
After that Canibus line technique should've thrown in the towel. Eyedea straight murked him.

Immortal technique got his ass handed to him. He's not even fucking close to Eyedea. People fail to realize that Immortal Technique is not that much of a battler.
HarisH SURYA I'm a fan of Tech, but yeah Eyedea got him. Tech only had the Backstreet Boy line.
Idk he told eyedea to go back to a methadone clinic and then eyedea died from a drug overdose, back then he won but after all that I would say tech fucking crucified him

Immortal Tech is one of my favorite rappers but Eyedea will destroy anyone in a rap battle
What is the first beat they used? it's fucking awesome
love both these guys. but you cant compare them. Immortal technique is a brilliant rapper, has amazing vocabulary and political. Eyedea on the other hand wasnt really a rapper just an alround musician with very profound lyrics in his songs and words that are powerful.

2 of the best of all time
Had no idea the Rocksteady battles went so long. Those were like two minute rounds.

R.Eye.P
Definitely murdered Tech, but Immortal Technique is a better artist all round
what's this beat called...? send me a mssg plz.
its east flatbush project - tried by 12. it was also used by asher roth and kid cudi on a freestyle. and slaughterhouse (eminem's group) used it in the shady 2.0 cypher.
would have loved to have been there. both are amazing, battling i have to give it to eyedea, he can come up with the sickest lines in a split second, in tracks probabaly technique has bigger range of vocab. but its close
Does anyone know what the first melody is? I wrote something very similar quite a while ago...
Immortal got no flow on this
What's this beat from? Someone plz tell me cause it was one of the first beats I got drunk to so it holds a place. I'm talking about the beat at the first
It fucking haunts me. Btw love eyedea even though I'm a metal head. Not gonna lie to anyone either "even shadows have shadows" drew me in. Even though I like his other shit

all i can say is...
an eyedea sparks a revolucion

I say a god damn tie. Both of these Mc's are incredible and I wish I was there to see this shit, the atmosphere was probably insanity.
St Pauls, Minnesota I think.
@supasaiyans whats the first beat? you never said anything...
Im a huge Technique fan but I gotta give Eyedea respect for this battle.
@ElTekNiQue Idea die with a man.* is what he really meant...and i think he does reference to hi in the beginning of the song "For those who died slow asleep in a dream choking in bed."
Slightly better quality below. Although, they misspelled “Technique”.
th-cam.com/video/w0atajiuoFQ/w-d-xo.html
wats this beat from?
Eyedea got him for sure, although Tech is an amazing freestyle battle MC, this is Eyedea's bread and butter.
from which song was the first beat??
does anyone have a wriiten version of this? hard to hear what they're sayin
First instrumental?
no point in arguing whose better, they're both dope
what beat is that? they use is for battles so much
These rounds are loooong.
Anyway to clean this up ? Not that I don't appreciate the post. Two of my favs
Would be nice if someone made an AI that could fix up the audio on this type of stuff.
The first instrumental is Tried by 12 by the East Flatbush Project
Is there not a better recording of this? Or a video
happy nappy bday Imm ;-)
Holy shit!
3:55 LMAOOO
Big props to immortal technique! Very talented artist indeed.
Wish the quality was better tho lol but dope
Found one called, "Eyedea Vs. Tekneek"
How young was Immortal Technique?
Lol not new to me this is old as hell but good to see its on TH-cam
@emceeC100 go pick up the album By The Throat by Eyedea and Abilities. Dude laid his heart out on that album, and you can feel every struggle he was dealing with. Very good battle, but Eyedea got the W. R EYE P
respect for both, R.I.P Eyedea
The first Instrumental is tried by 12 East Flatbush Project
This was at the Rocksteady weekend 2000. Eyedea killed the whole battle. Then later in the day Gangstarr took the stage and killed the spot
