A lesson for any new bike owner to check for factory default settings from new, this is not uncommon. You pay dearly for adjustable suspension, it would be a shame not to use it. Triumph is very good at giving suggested settings too, hardly any other manufacturer does this, well done to them and you for knowing what you want.
Great video - ###note to all owners### - don't leave the front fork suspension adjuster tool (the circle) under the seat. I went to adjust mine after 25km and it had already fallen out of the holder and I was lucky to find it under the main seat down deep where I needed to tease it out - any longer and I fear it would be on the road somewhere. Video was a great reference thanks!
I did the same adjustment to mine, only my suspension was on the correct settings before I reset it to comfort. It is still fairly stiff but only really noticeable on very bumpy roads. This has to be one of the best handling bike I’ve ever owned.
Having the correct suspension settings can transform the way a bike handles. A good tip is to test the bike on the same short circuit with a variety of road types and surfaces, each time an adjustment is made. I fitted Ohlins to my motorcycle and was apprehensive about the setup, but found it really straightforward - making small adjustments each time. What is also helpful for setting spring compression, is the measurement of 'Sag', which is the difference between unloaded and loaded with rider's weight. On the Ohlins, I think that the Sag was specified as 25 mm.
Hehe - I am the same "dimensions" as you - so this tutorial was spot on for me. You and I even have the same model and color - stay safe brother! And do make more videos about your suspension setup on RS -Cheers
Really helpful video thanks, we don't even get a physical copy of the manual in the UK which I think is outrageous spending £11500 plus extras, need to download it! I'm planning on adjusting once it warms up and drys out to test to the full.
Great video Dave, gave me an insight into the dark art! My bikes have always been older and less complicated so this seems complicated to me! 😂 It shows that they don't come with a balanced set up from the factory and I thought the dealer should have picked this up on the pdi but they didn't check it. It makes me wonder that when road testers complain about harsh suspension, they don't check it either and just slate the bike instead.
Impressed with the large hand book. Last summer I bought a new Rocket 3 GT and all I got was a link to a PDF file, which I loathe. Got the fancy folder but nothing in it. At least I got a proper hand book with my R1250 RT. Enjoy your new bike, it looks stunning
Thanks for the advice, I’ve just adjusted mine to comfort (yet to take it out). Luckily mine was setup correctly, definitely feels a bit harsh in road setting.
I've heard that if your suspension adjuster tool has fallen out it may have migrated towards the battery under the rider's seat. If not there, then look further down the sides under the rider's seat. If it's gone altogether, I've read that you can buy one from your Triumph dealer for about $13.
I've never owned a bike with adjustable front forks so I'm quite glad of that tbh. Simpler the better for me. Intresting though,, so many ways you can set it up! That man cave is lush. Good vid 🎉🎉
Well worth doing Dave...it can really improve the feel of the bike, and it's free!! Setting up the suspension , setting the sag etc made a real improvement on my T7. Great stuff, Cheers Steve
I am amazed at how much your bike was off the settings. I checked mine when I got it and it was set on road, bang on, front and rear. I like how it feels so am leaving it there.
@@andreashofmeister1590 my friend had his set all over the place too. I was lucky I guess as mine was set in Road from the factory and it felt great so after I checked I put it back to how it was.
You always have to keep in mind that most manufacturers assume a standard rider weight of 75kg (165 pound. Of course that doesn't suit everyone. When you set up your bike, you have to keep in mind its ready-to-ride weight and adjust accordingly.
MORNING DAVE. Have you heard of helicopter tape.its a clear protective film and you should consider getting some for the ohlins piggy back on the rear shock. After a while, the anodised gold starts looking abit beat up of all the road stones that flick up.😢
What a great video!❤ Thank you for the valuable information. Thanks to your awesome video I discovered the adjustment tools attached under the back cowling! I’ll be adjusting my suspension later! 😎👍
Just gotten a 22 street triple 765rs, and does feel a but stiff. Especially for UK roads 😂 haven't played with the suspension settings yet, your video will definitely help! Thank you Will be interesting to see what it's currently set up as 🤔 but going to give comfort a bash. Absolutely loving the bike! Previously had a 06 z750s
Keep'm coming Dave! the weather is starting to break over here and getting warm enough to get out and ride. I'm looking to get the dji 4 cam as i got the gopro 10 now with a lav mic. but seen your video on the DJI and it's banging brother!
Update, having just had the bikes first service I decided to check the suspension and tho not as far out as yours it was out. So following your video I've set it to the solo road settings as I'm slightly taller and heavier than you and thought this would be a good base setting.
Great video, very helpful. I’m trying to decide between 765 R and RS. Like the belly pan, bar end mirrors, dash more on RS. What was your thought process please between the two
Hi, I’ve made a separate video about this but if they did the R in this colour I would probably have bought it. Mind you knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t swap this bike for anything. It is superb. 👌
As far as I can tell from the video, you didn't adjust the rear preload. I found that to be the most critical setting to change before I headed off with fully loaded panniers for a tour of Ireland.
I bought 2 spanners and took one turn out on the rear. It definitely helped tame the harsh ride on some of the nastier New England and New York roads. Definitely a must-do, imo.
Looks like the dealer PDI was thorough, not uncommon, the brakes on my Ducati were binding within three miles of leaving dealership! They sorted but not good enough, but no further issues in 6000+ miles. Amazing how many people don’t check that a manual suspension is set up correctly, I’m like you I prefer a softer setting, luckily a Multistrada is ESA.
Thank you really top video I like you have the 2024 Triumph Street Triple RS but in red. I follow your video to the tee setting my suspension to comfort as well thank you again really great help. Tell me have found that 16 clicks was still best or have add or subtracted from that position?👉👍
Interesting vid. I've heard the stock setup on the R was more suited to road riding but the RS was set stiffer for faster cornering so nice to know you can soffen up the RS suspension. Must admit to normally not having the confidence to adjust the suspension myself.
Way to go @Wheelie Good TV!! I've also got a new 765 RS and would like to ask a couple of things: 1. Does the rear shock lose the settings after being ridden? Mine loses 2-3 clicks both TEN and COMP 2. Your rear shock really clics? No springy noise and bland strange sensation when turning? Thx!!!
Hi. Yes it actually clicks when turning and certainly no springy noises. I’ve just checked the ten and com settings and they’re exactly the same from when I set it two months ago. Hope that helps. 👌
Good video! I noticed that my front suspension adjusters were all horizontal when fully clockwise except for the right Compression which stops vertically (12 o clock). So when theyre all set-up, all 3 adjusters would be horizontal except for that one. Has anyone encounter this? Thanks!
Hi Dave re rear suspension settings for a numpty, when you said you tightened your rear!! , did you tighten both rebound and compression by 4 clicks in or just the lower rebound. Thanks mate sorry to be a pain but I have never had adjustable suspension on any bike, have adjusted mine to full comfort as per manual .

Dave a promised , set all to manual comfort so far will try our rebound setting later i.e 4 clicks in see if it makes difference thanks for the reply. You have also inspired to have second bike vfr I think pre vtech.
i still couldn't find my missing tool. It's been over 6 months now still no where found. I don't really want to buy a new one due to it's considered special order for some reasons.
Dave, I see you've not changed your tyres yet. I've had 2 previous streets.
