I had a 2021 300 Husky but really never got on with it for some reason that I cannot explain and sold it for a 4 stroke, but when I rode a mates 250 EXC I just loved it. Purely subjective but for some weird reason it felt so much lighter and more agile and fun. So crazy that 50 cc can make such a "feel" difference as in reality the bikes have identical weight. If I get a 2 stroke again in the future, against all apparent logical arguments in favour of the technically superior 300, it will definitely be a 250. But then we ride bikes for fun, not logic!
I have both a 250 and 300 and they are similar and different and I love them both. The 250 is more "exciting" to ride but more work and can be more frustrating. The 300 is always down for anything and tackles almost anything with ease lol
Really helped me out on deciding between the 250 and the 300. Thanks man actually covered everything that’s actually needed to make a tough decision between the two.
Own a KTM 200, 250 and 300 and by far by favorite for single track is the 200 (it is a 125 with a 200cc cylinder), when riding on ATV trails I always like the 250 more than the 300 due to the following reasons: 1. 250 revs quicker. 300 feels sluggish to get off and going 2. 250 feels atleast 30% more nimble than the 300 while the 200 feels 30% more nimble than the 250 3. Vibration on the non counterbalanced 300 is unbearable at almost any amount of time after one hour of riding. 250 is fine for 6hrs without noticing it too much 4. I became a better rider because of the 250 and the 200 and hence I let my friends ride the 300. It is a good buddy bike
That's it in a nut shell ; the two smaller bike feel way better in difficult tricky or tight terrain . Whereis a not perfectly set up 300 , can feel like a pig in the same conditions. Very well put sir 😊
I've only ridden a couple two-strokes over the years and have always owned 4-strokes. With that said, I love two-strokes and would love to have an old KDX220 for dinking around as my next bike.
What I have learned with the KTM two strokes IE 250 versus 300... Is you can make the characteristics of power delivery the same by tuning or changing the power valve springs... You can make the power band very linear on both bikes or very abrupt... Also there is a CDI box mapping difference on the ignition... So by putting a 250 CDI box on a 300 gives you more 250 like characteristics... I might suggest that since you have a 250... You can buy a 300 kit from KTM to transform your bike... Way cheaper possibly than buying a new bike the kit comes with a cylinder with power valves installed a CDI box gaskets and of course the piston I believe it's something under $1,000
The only bike I regret owning was a CRF450RX after having owned a KX250X I couldn't believe how much worse the 450 was in every possible way. So I traded the 450 on 300 two stroke hoping this is going to be my dream bike.
Very well said! Agree with everything. I ride a 300 gasgas 2018 and compared to my mate's ktm 250 2016 the gap is minimal, I bought the 300 because it was cheaper than an equivalent 250 and I wanted the torque for hill climbs (lazy riding you might call it). Thanks for sharing.
I bought a 250 XC and later converted it to a 300 which didn't cost all that much and was pretty easy to do. The 300 really wants to be ridden differently. You want to short shift and not try to ring it out. The power is mostly down low and mid RPM. There is no need to rip it up hills because it will tractor up most anything. I live in Washington in the Cascades where the single track is steep and slimy. 300 is king here.
I've owned both and I agree with what you are saying. The 250 was great for flowing trails but now that I ride technical hard enduro trails the 300 makes things a lot easier as it has so much low down torque. Awesome vids, keep em coming.
Have a 19 TX 300 husky and bought a 2018 250 exc and love them both ,the 250 is more playful and engaging ,the 300 you can be a bit lazier on ,these counterbalanced engines are a gamechanger ,own a 450 as well which is a fantastic bike ,I am 60 now but when I was a young no one owned a four stroke as they were too heavy and slow lol ,we really are spoiled for choice, there are no bad bikes these days 👍
Have an 08 300 xcw(i sold an 06 250xc to buy) that i love, but my neighbor just bought a 20' 250xc and boy is there a difference in the vibration aspect, plus it feels 30 lbs lighter than my 300. Put me into thinking about trading mine for a 17' model year and up. Amazing. I loved my 250 in some places more than the 300 and vice versa. I agree with you though in the fact that the 300 is easier to ride cuz i get lazy sometimes it's so much easier, but the 250 on the pipe pinned is so much fun! Thanks for the videos, love em
I've always ridden 4 strokes and I just made the switch to a husky 300 tpi bike and I don't think I would ever look back at 4 strokes it's a whole different world and I'm excited to learn
Currently own a modded 450L, vortex ecu and yoshi exhaust, no more flame out issues after the new ecu but I agree. Bikes is great on the street but once you get on the trail the weight really shows. Looking at getting a ktm next
Never rode a 250 KTM. I have had over 5 300s. Huge fan of those. I even had the 1996 Butterscotch Looking one with conventional forks. Could not Sell that one Fast enough!!!!
hey brother!!,,,,,i bought a 2016ktm 250 exc,,,,the most playfull bike ive ever owned!!!! have had CR250;s converted to enduro riding,,,i put a 2stroke perforance kit on it out of melbourne australia high compression head ect,,,,,can lug just as hard as a 300 and has the awesome high midrange and top end power ,,,insane sideways corners roost,,,,,,,,,so much fun!!!,,,, have a 2020 tx300i,,,have added the tsp power kit to it out of melbourne australia ,,,,,,,,crikey!!!!! what a weapon,,,,,,,,deep lug in technical stuff and hard hitting midrange and top end,,,,,my favourite bike ever,,,,,but i agree with you,,,,the counter balanced 250's are the best bike to start on,,if your just entering the enduro/trail riding scene,,soo much fun!!!!
I live and ride everything in Colorado. Been on many of the tough trails here in CO. I ride a EXC-f (2017) 250 KTM (4 stroke) and all my buddies ride 2 strokes (300's, 250's). I have never had an issue going anywhere they go. So yea the 250 you may have to work slightly more work, but it really depends on how you ride and how tough trails you go on. Your bike, your skill, and your clutch do most the work regardless of which bike you are on. I have never said "no" to any trail ride no matter which other bikes are on it. Its only at the top of the mtn that I realize sometimes I am the only 4 stroke. But I am at the top with everyone else! Looks like you all had fun out here in CO!
Nothing wrong with a non counterbalanced 2smoker love my ktm 2010 300 just done 170km in two days rough riverbed and mountain terrain i guess we are spoiled for choice now 300 I awesome as being an older rider now 😄 shes goes anywhere I point it
Had a 03 300 exc, upgraded to a 09 300 xcw (still own both) was ready to get another 300 but like you said better deals on the 250. Found a new left over 2017 250 xcw this spring for a smoking deal and jumped on it. Pretty much agree with everything you said. Might prefer a 300 but for the extra $1k+ it would of cost me for a similar 300 I am cool with the 250. Of course we can always upgrade at the time we replace the top end. BTW my son rides the 09 300 now and I hit reserve at 69 miles and he hit it at 70. Don't know the tank sizes but I would say gas consumption is very similar.
Ok , So i'm coming off of a 1978 Harley Davidson 250 mx , 1978 RM 400 , 1978 Husky 390 ( which i loved) and a 1995 Cr 250. So i think this KTM or for that matter all of the 2 strokes that are left in the market today will be a up grade for me. I have 2 models in mind.. the KTM 250 xc-w and the Husky te 250i. So once the bikes start coming back to PA. I'll be getting one of those . Some input would be nice..
I like 250s better as long as they have a higher compression head, ports lowered a tad and a well jetted kehin carb they gain a massive amount of low end power and still get better mpg. We do a lot of 100 mile days and mpg matters. I do like 300s but having one races on 200s i really dont think the power is necessary in fact a really strong running 300 can be tiring on big days similar to a big four stroke. Its all fun though.
I have a beta 300rr and I like it a lot, but I think I'll end up switching to the krm 250 at some point soon. Although my beta is counter balanced it still vibrates waaaay more than a ktm. So just beware. Mine is a 2021 too and I rode a 2018 ktm 250 and it was night and day with the vibration.
Never having ridden a late model 2 stroke I just go by vids like this and comments. Did the 300’s you rode have a ‘red’ power valve spring? I just wonder if that would change the way you viewed the bike. Being in SoCal a dual sport works for me. I was awfully tempted to get a 300 plated out of state but went with an ‘07 525 EXC. still like the thought of the 300 though.
Growing your skills and getting better as a rider because the 250 isn’t as good for off road as the 300. A 150 would improve your skills even more because it has even more shortfalls.
You have the perfect situation, put a 300 kit on one of your 250s and do a back to back comparison!! For the 300 just put a Keihin 38pwk I can give you the perfect jetting setup...
I’m a lazy 51 year old rider and about 30 lbs overweight and I don’t give a rat’s ass. Got a 17 300 XC and I love it. When my wife starts bitching I hit the trails and I don’t have to think about changing gears so much. Bike rips!
Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm excited. You should compare a 200 vs 250 vs 300. I think that would be very cool. Edit: I wanted to see 200s because they are very menuverable for their size.
I went to the dealer to get a 300XCW. Left with a 250XC and a 450XCF. Don't care for the soft suspension on the woods bikes. The air forks and the Brembo brakes also sold me on the cross country versions. Everybody has their poison.
I still have my 2011 ktm-300xc and still love it. However I would love to find a 2019 ktm-300xc with a carb as opposed to tpi. The 2019 300xc models had some tpi & some mikuni carbureted in 2019.
What’s up I’m looking to grab another street legal supermotto and I’m looking at the 300 I live in the nyc what’s your opinion on the bike with street tires
Ive had all sorts of bikes. I then moved to a big bore 450 in a 2015 KLX450R - what a beast. BUT heavy and that meant after a couple hours of hard riding you were sore. I then switched to a 300 Sherco four stroke. As light as a 2 stroke but same power as a 300 2 stroke - what a beast, light nimble and can lug like a 2 stroke due to the engine design and the over idle setup. Ideally I would like an oil injected 300 2 stroke which i think brings the best of both worlds and after trying a couple like the KTM and Beta im sold. The only thing holding me back is the finances
I got my son a YZ125x and it is so much FUN on single track! It so light and nimble but tops out quickly in 6th gear - I find myself looking for more. PS my bike is a Ktm 250 xcw-f.
I'm sticking to 4 strokes if I ever get 1. Oh and it would be a dual sport. I'm also a firm believer that bigger is better when it comes to engines. I hope the knee is not bothering you Tanner. I know It doesn't matter what I hope for it will be how it's going to be. Heal fast my friend.👍🏻👊🏻😎😉
@@johnnykurrti5868 so I have changed pistons on countless 2 stroke engines from 85cc to 300cc and it usually takes 2 hrs or less. My first 4 stroke right now and it is a pain if one wants to do it with engine in the frame. Not much room for anything. On a 4 stroke one could get away waiting longer to change pistons because it is two rings and one oil ring vs a single ring for compression on a 2 stroke. But when one has to change valves and seats and guides the work adds up and wish someone else did the job.
You could ride it as a 250 for a while and when you need to change the piston and cylinder just put the 300 conversion kit in it. I have the 2017 250 and I love it, but I think maybe i could try this at some point.
I have ktm tpi 250 2019 and sherco 300 se 2021... I like 300 more beacuse of low end torque i ride 80% slow techical hard enduro you just lick throttle and it grabs hard... I didnt notice weight diference very much, both bike are light and easy to handle... Also tried once ktm exc 200 and that was very light and fun to drive ..
I'm on my second 300 XCW, first was 2017, now have a 2021. I've ridden KTM and Beta 250s. I think the 250s rev a bit quicker. I'm pretty sure they have about the same peak power, which no one cares about.
For 800$ you can get the cylinder head and ecu upgrade for the 250 and now you have the power of the 300 with the same nimbleness as the 250. I love my 250 though but deff not for the lazy rider in stock form, youll get some fore arms though.
I can only speak on the ktm 300 because I never rode a beta or sherco, but I agree the 300exc FEELS heavier, whether it is or not. Nevertheless, love(d) it.
One thing the bottom end or case is the same on the 250 and 300. When its time for a rebuild you can replace the cylinder and get all the other parts for about 1000 dollars. other than that the bikes are exactly the same.
My first bike was an rm125 it was a ton of fun haha after wrecking a few times I ended up selling it now I have a 19 crf250l that’s how I found this channel and I’d take an RM over my CRF it was way more fun
Title is "what is better " so he gives a bunch of reasons why the 300 is better then says he likes the 250 better? I have a KTM 300 and love it .I ride the heck out of it and almost never fix it. You can't ask for more than that.
IMHO if your a 2 stroke purest the 250cc is so much more fun to ride ... if your fit good rider of average weight the 250cc is so much more fun riding racing anything but pure slow tech(300 wins there).. the 250cc rider will corner better tire less ..If your overweight unfit lazier rider the 300 is for you ..fit the green power valve spring and tractor away ... just remember when you hear that 250 screaming up behind you to move out of the way..
I own a 17 300 xcw, personally I like a little more open flowing trails so I should have probably gotten an xc 250/300 or 350/450 especially since I do ride moto as well but they are a cheater bike in a sense though they really shine in tight woods and single track
Lazy, cheater bike..ya cuz it makes everything seem much easier... is that not the idea? I understand your idea but it does sound like you personally like a 250 cuz you have one but admit 300tpi is fast we better and more capable
Opposite demand here in the UK. Most people buy the 300 so there aren't too many good used late 250 bikes available. I had to wait a long time to find a good used 2019 xc250 carb bike .
I have a 19’ 250 XCW TPI and it’s my first bike. Love the bike and it’s definitely a keeper!
You never ridden a dirt bike before???
your first bike is my dream bike.. lol.. and here i was with my 1994 rm250 trying to jet it so it could go above 1000 rmp xD you're lucky
Own a KTM 200, 250 and 300 and by far by favorite for single track is the 200 (it is a 125 with a 200cc cylinder), when riding on ATV trails I always like the 250 more than the 300 due to the following reasons:
1. 250 revs quicker. 300 feels sluggish to get off and going
2. 250 feels atleast 30% more nimble than the 300 while the 200 feels 30% more nimble than the 250
3. Vibration on the non counterbalanced 300 is unbearable at almost any amount of time after one hour of riding. 250 is fine for 6hrs without noticing it too much
4. I became a better rider because of the 250 and the 200 and hence I let my friends ride the 300. It is a good buddy bike
Awesome feedback I would love to get my hands on a 200 for testing. I own a KDX200 and love the power it delivers. Thanks for watching!
Osea que la 250 es mejor que la 300
is ur 250 counter balanced
That's it in a nut shell ; the two smaller bike feel way better in difficult tricky or tight terrain .
Whereis a not perfectly set up 300 , can feel like a pig in the same conditions.
Very well put sir 😊
I've only ridden a couple two-strokes over the years and have always owned 4-strokes. With that said, I love two-strokes and would love to have an old KDX220 for dinking around as my next bike.

Bro what is the thumbnail 🤣
I have had 1 KTM 250 and 13 KTM 300’s. I now have a Beta 300 rr. For me I like the torque ( as you said) of a 300.
Love that you are a KTM owner but not a fanboy who thinks cuz they own KTM, KTM has to be the best! Keep up the good work!
I’m on my 3rd te 250 got a 2020 now and it’s the nuts.
The only bike I regret owning was a CRF450RX after having owned a KX250X I couldn't believe how much worse the 450 was in every possible way. So I traded the 450 on 300 two stroke hoping this is going to be my dream bike.
Won me at the word "lazy". Love my 300. 😅
Sounds like the 300 is better for an older guy who wants to keep it down on the revs and just poke along, except for a few bursts here and there.

The TX300 is a different animal than the TE300, they were built for different purposes
Have an 08 300 xcw(i sold an 06 250xc to buy) that i love, but my neighbor just bought a 20' 250xc and boy is there a difference in the vibration aspect, plus it feels 30 lbs lighter than my 300. Good feedback. Honestly, I think the 150 may be enough for me. They need to bring back the 200! I would buy one in a heartbeat.
I've always ridden 4 strokes and I just made the switch to a husky 300 tpi bike and I don't think I would ever look back at 4 strokes it's a whole different world and I'm excited to learn
Just bought a new TE300i from wheelsports in Reynoldsburg. I think that's from your neck of the woods. Awesome bike and awesome place to buy from.
Currently own a modded 450L, vortex ecu and yoshi exhaust, no more flame out issues after the new ecu but I agree. Bikes is great on the street but once you get on the trail the weight really shows. Looking at getting a ktm next
Te300i for me should be on the way soon ! matches my 701 all day long ......
Glad you are back to the regular broadcast sorry I missed the live 😭🤦🏼♂️

You have the perfect situation, put a 300 kit on one of your 250s and do a back to back comparison!! For the 300 just put a Keihin 38pwk I can give you the perfect jetting setup...
There ya go!! Might do it in the future.
Very informative. Rock out. Glad you're up and about!
I’m a lazy 51 year old rider and about 30 lbs overweight and I don’t give a rat’s ass. Got a 17 300 XC and I love it. When my wife starts bitching I hit the trails and I don’t have to think about changing gears so much. Bike rips!
the 250 xcw is more snappy and and feel lighter but i love my 300xcw for my gnarly ride this 300 dont die
Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm excited. You should compare a 200 vs 250 vs 300. I think that would be very cool.
Edit: I wanted to see 200s because they are very menuverable for their size.
Do you keep the 450L? Good channel and keep well on yor recovery. Regards.
250XC-W is the best bike I've ever owned. Too rough out here for anything else
300 xc-w would be even better :)
I might have to switch it up and go with the 250 next time. I've owned 4 KTM's now, '13 '18 '19 and now '21, and they've all been 300 XC's lol.
I went to the dealer to get a 300XCW. Left with a 250XC and a 450XCF. Don't care for the soft suspension on the woods bikes. The air forks and the Brembo brakes also sold me on the cross country versions. Everybody has their poison.
How about a segment on skill vs equipment.
I still have my 2011 ktm-300xc and still love it. However I would love to find a 2019 ktm-300xc with a carb as opposed to tpi. The 2019 300xc models had some tpi & some mikuni carbureted in 2019.
If I already have 2012 xcw 300, would you say it’s worth it to upgrade to 2017 or 2018 just for the counter balancer?
What’s up I’m looking to grab another street legal supermotto and I’m looking at the 300 I live in the nyc what’s your opinion on the bike with street tires
I have both 2024 te300 tx250 always riding my 300
Which one for hare scrambles?
👍👍spot on ,I own both ,you can’t go wrong with either D
300 sherco 4 stroke is not putting out the same horsepower as a te300i or xcw300, fact.
@@derekbratsch991 4 stroke will have more torque fact
I have rode the 2019 exc 250 tpi and it is smother and vibrates way less than my 03 cr125 xD
Night and day difference!
A well known world enduro rider went from a 300 ktm to a 250 ktm and lately a 125 ktm just to prove you dont need heaps o power. Would you try a 125 ?
I got my son a YZ125x and it is so much FUN on single track! It so light and nimble but tops out quickly in 6th gear - I find myself looking for more. PS my bike is a Ktm 250 xcw-f.
I'm sticking to 4 strokes if I ever get 1. Oh and it would be a dual sport. I'm also a firm believer that bigger is better when it comes to engines. I hope the knee is not bothering you Tanner. I know It doesn't matter what I hope for it will be how it's going to be. Heal fast my friend.👍🏻👊🏻😎😉
Nothing wrong with that!! Thank you brother👊🏻
Four strokes have better engine life so I understand why
@@johnnykurrti5868 so I have changed pistons on countless 2 stroke engines from 85cc to 300cc and it usually takes 2 hrs or less. My first 4 stroke right now and it is a pain if one wants to do it with engine in the frame. Not much room for anything. On a 4 stroke one could get away waiting longer to change pistons because it is two rings and one oil ring vs a single ring for compression on a 2 stroke. But when one has to change valves and seats and guides the work adds up and wish someone else did the job.
I have a 2020 fe350s and it'll be my first and last 4 stroke.
I have a GAS GAS EC 250 2T, and I happy with that, but I think in the end of this season I will buy a 300cc just to see how it is 👍
yes , both are good ,, the cheaper price of a 250 balances the outcome , unless you have a specific need either is fine according to most vlogs ;;
Nice! I am sure you are loving the 21.
Crazy, around the 1m mark your hour meter changes mid video from 57.9 to 58 :)
Good eye😂
KTM/Husky is where it is at and developing 2 strokes
Im a 250 guy too
What’s the current line up of bikes
For 800$ you can get the cylinder head and ecu upgrade for the 250 and now you have the power of the 300 with the same nimbleness as the 250. I love my 250 though but deff not for the lazy rider in stock form, youll get some fore arms though.
The bike that can drive around tight slipery corners best - wins !!!
Will the 250 xc-w have enough power to carry m fat ass around in the desert single track? I'm 6'3" 260LBS.
I can only speak on the ktm 300 because I never rode a beta or sherco, but I agree the 300exc FEELS heavier, whether it is or not. Nevertheless, love(d) it.
Also, hope you are feeling better, cool breeze.
One thing the bottom end or case is the same on the 250 and 300. When its time for a rebuild you can replace the cylinder and get all the other parts for about 1000 dollars. other than that the bikes are exactly the same.
great clip 💪
It’s 3 years later now. Do you still prefer the 250?
I have a 2024 300 now but still feel the 250 was a bit more playful.
@@AdventureDaily just sold my 2023 YZ250FX and deciding on KTM 300 or 250.
Who here has to stick with their yamaha yz250's??
YZ250’s are THE Offroad woods bike for me.
The counter balanced 300's are Buttery
nothing makes you have to feather the clutch as a mx 125cc bike. You basically have to be like ronny mac when you go up hills
I have owned a 300 and currently on a 250 tpi and I have the same opinion as yo self.
There is only 2 hp difference between the 250xcw and 300xcw. The 250XC has 7 more hp than a 300 XC-W. The 300XC has 9 more hp than a 250 XCw.
Lol, "cheater bike", "help center". Funny stuff. I’m not proud, lol. I’ll have a 300 sooon.
I have a four stroke and I just rode a 125x and it’s so much better and more fun
Hmmm…you just talked me into a 300….!
Try a 125 dude
More basic
I recon tanner your next bike will be tpi who knows what size as you are good at finding deals
Dont forget most people finance because a lightly used bike will be 8-9 grand. That lost $1000 on a brand new bike means your on one so who cares.
You never broke your knee on the 250l..... :)
You just cant compare crf450l to a Husky or KTM 4-four stroke..
I have a decent amount of hours on the 2020 FE350, my feelings are still the same.
300 all day long
I can't comment on any of this topic I've only ridden one 2 stroke in my life lol.
The used bike cost almost as much as new , so to me new is better.
300 all the way
No mention of heavier riders ? I am 7'9" and 300 plus without boots! lol ! But seriously just get out and ride !
7'9 are you shitting me
I guess you’ve abandoned the trusty CRF 250 L.
Long gone! I don't Dual Sport much anymore.
I own a 17 300 xcw, personally I like a little more open flowing trails so I should have probably gotten an xc 250/300 or 350/450 especially since I do ride moto as well but they are a cheater bike in a sense though they really shine in tight woods and single track
4 STROOOOOOKE 😂
Lazy, cheater bike..ya cuz it makes everything seem much easier... is that not the idea? I understand your idea but it does sound like you personally like a 250 cuz you have one but admit 300tpi is fast we better and more capable
450 4-Stroke. ....Bye
Opposite demand here in the UK. Most people buy the 300 so there aren't too many good used late 250 bikes available. I had to wait a long time to find a good used 2019 xc250 carb bike .
