    Hi Janos. Thanks a lot for answering my question in a own video. I will have to tell this to my girlfriend tonight as she already knows your videos as well. In fact she kind of could not get around it as I was building my own La Grande version the last weeks :-). (By the way the adjusted cabinet because of the Fostex 126 E with help of your inputs as you might remember works really well and they get a peak/leverage at the 40Hz region which produces a really nice bass - thanks a lot again for your help at this point!)
    Your explanation answers the question about the difference of Sonido 200/A vs. Cube Audio Fc8 really well in my opinion. I have to admit that I ordered a pair of the Fc8 as all the other videos from you already convinced me that these are worth the money - they will be installed in a Voigt Pipe cabinet which I will be build of spruce wood from an old cupboard - the dimensions will be taken from the dimensions of your Voigt Pipe's (you communicated them in another video about your Voigt Pipe). So I really look forward to soon have my own pair of Voigt Pipes. They will be fired up by a single ended Class A amp with EL34 tubes.

      The spruce pipe Fc8 with SE EL34 will be absolute heaven. I'm super glad your girlfriend loves the FE126E LaGrande so much! You did a great job with the modeling & adaptation, bravo!!

    Hi Janos, what Qube Audio has accomplished is indeed not easy. You need to combine many parameters that are compromising each other, to name a few: Low moving mass and low resonance frequency; Large magnetic flux and large X-max; High Bl and minimal cone break up. So I have no qualm about the asking price (though I will not spend it). There is a vintage speaker that can do that as well, and it was made by Goodmans in the 50's. It was a cantilever (no surround) 8" dual cone design with an fs of 20 Hz. On very rare occasions it pops up (most chance in the UK, and in singles, so good luck collecting two of them) and people pay thousands for it. Over in France there is a company called Davis-Acoustics and they make the 20DE8. I believe it is about 20 years old now, but still being made. This driver is an 8" AlNiCo full range driver with single cone (so it is probably beaming a lot) that has also low frequencies at the same sound pressure as the high frequencies. They claim 94 dB sensitivity but the graph shows more like 90 dB. Never the less a very interesting speaker. No actual prices given, but based on old prices it is probably still undercutting the Cube Audio driver, that is probably better. Mind you the cheapest Qube Audio driver now cost €2800,- This is not only inflation but seems also that they continue to move in the high end direction which is in some ways a pity. As a side note, Davis is the only company I know that (still) makes a high end high sensitivity cone tweeter. That in its self is interesting. I like companies that go their own way and do what they like best, regardless of what the dogma of the day is.

      Thank you for the tip on the 20DE8! I did not know about it. I also find it unfortunate that Cube Audio is cutting out their entry line and going for higher end. Their Fc8 was already a phenomenal driver, at a cost that would be considered as the absolute ceiling for many of us.

    Hi Janos, did you hear the French Full Range EMS (Fertin daughter) like the LB12? They also have versions of their entire line in field coil technology. There is a whole community around them because they are very good, but not that expensive. There are people who order them without a whizzer and add a separate tweeter, which is joined with just a capacitor.

    Hi Janos, i have a pair of SFR175A, i can say that it needs a huge breaking in period. I Haven't the suited performance at the moment. But i hope! I have installed them in my Lagrande pair, i will mount them in phasis opposition to break them in more. I hope SFR200 are better, but it seems that it's the same motor. so I struggle a bit.. 😕 in parallel, ihave tested tha ABX audiophile open baffles. Quite cool result, but i prefer the simplicity of the pipes. Now comes the time for the pure darling Amp making.

      Great, have them in my La Grande as well (SFR175A) and they need lots of burn in hour, fully agree!! Dont use SFR200, very different specs as 175 and it will be too big for la Grande! Also Janos gave me the right Position for SFR175A. Istvan Vargo from Sonido is very responsive, he gaves you great advise on perfect cabinets, ask him!

      Hi TitofBee. I also built the La Grande (with a little different cabinet dimensions as I use a pair of Fostex FE 126E which needed some adjustments due to other characteristics). Do I understand that you're not happy with the sound of the SFR175A in your La Grande? Is it possible that this is due to missing bass frequency range? As I could imagine that the bass response might not be optimal. As far as I can tell, the SFR145A would be the pair to chose for the La Grande cabinet (if built with the same dimensions that Janos did). If you want I can do a WinISD simulation once with the SFR175A and once with the SFR145A. We then could check together the differences. If you want you can send me a private message and we could continue the discussion next to TH-cam. Would appreciate to hear from you. By the way: I also would like to build/diy the pure darling amp - so we could continue our exchange and support each other with this, too. Just an idea :-). Cheers, Adrian

      @@gerihifi Hi, I would be interested about your thoughts of using the SFR175A in the La Grande. As far as I would have thought the SFR145 was be a better match due to matching closer the specs of the Fostex FF 125 WK for which Janos designed the La Grande (as far as I can remember). Did you chose the SFR175A intentionally and if so why did you chose them?

    • @gerihifi
      @gerihifi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adriwube prefered AlnIco magnet :-) I'd the opportunity to get it for a good discount, therefore choosen. Yes had the FF125WK before, also awesome for La Grandes. SFR175A are much fuller mids/highs and bass was okay for those type of cabinet (I did some dampening in regards of more controlled mids).
      NO, I'M NOT an experienced DIYer, was my 2nd Project after Le Petit!

      @@gerihifi Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Sounds good what your experience is with the SFR175A. By the way I meant the SFR145A which I just ordered as my Fostex FE 126e which I bought used recently are lacking higher frequencies on one side. I found someone who would fix it but I assumed repair costs would close as high as the price for a new pair of Sonidos. So I'm really curious how the SFR145A will sound. I guess it will be phenomenal as already now with one Fostex beeing partly defect I love the clarity and how relaxed and pleasant they sound.

      I asked Istvan about this. It is the Nelson Pass Aleph 10w power amp that they are suggesting. Personally I would consider that compatibility allied to a valve pre (which I already have).

    • @realworldaudio
      @realworldaudio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@electricbeachaudio That makes a lot of sense. The Nelson Passes are very much unlike typical solid state amps, in character and speaker handling much closer to tube amps than to most solids.
