Wow, that's got to be the most elaborate DIY system I've seen. The room construction is awesome as well. Great job!
Thank you for your nice comments.
Joe
I'm Speechless..i would travel to the reaches of the continent and pay admission just to hear his system.
No admission fee, just a trip to Greenpoint Brooklyn !!!
@@josephbulger7302 I'm looking up flights
@@josephbulger7302 hi, Joe. Please update and make new videos on your TH-cam channel! Man, you're the best!
Wow thats a good idea I am curious to hear this system
3 minutes in and I already love this guy's ingenuity.
Looking forward to part two 😄
Thank you !!
Joe
Im going to bookmark this and pull it out when my wife thinks Ive gone to far with my audio obsession.
Hope that works for you !!!!
Joe
@@josephbulger7302 that's quite the DIY system Sir! I am working on some DIY speakers myself. Using some 2nd hand klipsch horns to build myself some "Clonewall's". Your system makes me feel like a rank amateur though.
The "I`m not so bad, look at THIS guy" excuse has served me well many times ;)
@@afrog2666 I am glad it works for you !!!
Joe
@@afrog2666 worked well for me with headphones.. for a while... now I have such a collection I think I'm the guy that other people are showing to their wives
An extremely intelligent, passionate and precise man. Bellissimo!
Thanks, Steve...I love this guy’s enthusiasm and humility.
Cheers to you, Joe
Thank you for your kind comments !!
Joe
Brilliant. He reminds me of PC Dibble from Top Cat. One of the best technically savvy audiophiles I have ever seen. Even Steve is quiet lol.
I thought he sounded familiar but was thinking of either one of the blues brothers or maybe one of the mafia on the Simpsons but the guy from Top Cat fits it better
Tc sounds, those are some amazing subs. I like this guy. You can tell these speakers are his passion, this guy probably absolutely loves his system.and talk about room treatment! Thanks for your Service Joe!
I wish this guy was my neighbor, I would never have a noise complaint.
Me eather cause I'LL be over there till he kicks me out,😂🤣🔈🔉🔊💯
This guy's version of not being rich is way different than my version of not being rich.
@33Ddg209Ret7 If he was a beat cop, he was crooked.
He said he wasn't rich. He didn't say he was poor.
The question is: When will there be a review of his sound system?
Yes we need That Steve 🤔
Yes, I want to know, how does it sound? ?!!
Horns have no bass, and sound, well... horn-y.
@@hifiguy10 I think those four 18" subs might beg to differ with you.
evilwoodchuck then 10 18” speakers would be even better, right? This is a glorified PA system.
I find it genuinely moving seeing and listening to someone like Joe showing and explaining the details of something so beautiful that they've conceived, designed and built.
The guy is a diamond and so is his system.
Thank you very much for your kind comments !!!
What I love about this system is that it is a labor of love. He didn't just walk into a store and say "I want to buy the best system you have." He actually built the system he loves.
Thank you for your kind comments, I could not afford a commercial system that comes anywhere near the performance of the system I made. Check out Cessaro horn systems from Germany--big money but BIG performance--Check TH-cam for audio shows with Cessaro speakers. I modeled my system to be close to theirs !!!
Joe
Best of all videos you’ve done.
Thank you !!
This is a great presentation. Such a high level of commitment to the art and Joe is one of those special people. A great inspiration.

Those look OUTSTANDING !! I agree with Joe that horns done well are the ultimate. Audio is a cool hobby that combines engineering and art and spirituality of great sounding music.
Thank you Keith for your kind comments. This is a great hobby for all the reasons you listed but it is all about the great sounding music.

what the eff am I looking at?! my brain would never be able to go this creative. my goodness what a masterpiece
Hi, Sameer
Thank you for your kind words !!! What you are looking at is 45 yrs. of evolution of all my audio speaker experience !!
Joe
When I first saw this I thought hey that might be something I’d like to do…then I saw it and listened to him speak about it. I was snapped back to reality REALLY quick!!!🤣🤣🤣. No way…ever!
There are a lot of considerations you have to think through to take on a project like this. I totally agree that my project is a tough sell on many levels.
Joe
@@josephbulger7302 I can only imagine. Those are truly a feat of engineering. I really love the American spirit and passion for audio. This guy is a legend. I would pay for plane tickets to hear these monsters.
No money necessary. If you make it to Greenpoint, Brooklyn you would be welcome for a listen.

What a great guy and an amazing system. So much thought, energy, skill and care went into his system. I’ve used the TC Sounds woofers before and they were something special. I would love to drink some whiskey with Joe and listen to his system.
Thank you for your kind comments !!!!!
Joe
All that description and we never even hear the sound system ... not even a glimpse ... 35w x 2 on thoses ... lets hear ...
Nice system. As a custom horn designer/owner, I would suggest: take out 2 drivers from your 5-driver array. Getting the crossover right with 5 drivers is basically impossible. I also saw some cheap inductors in the crossover, get rid of that and replace with proper audiophile inductors/caps/resistors. The crossover is one of the first areas everyone should improve!
Hi, Fluterra
The crossover now uses Solen 8AWG litz inductors , Path resistors, and mostly Duelund capacitors. I made these changes about 1.5 yrs. ago. To date, I have had at least 75 audiophiles, speaker manufactures, electronic designers, sound engineers, musicians, etc. and not one person mentioned poor speaker integration. Just the opposite of what you might think. The three compression / field coil drivers I use are very close in sensitivity, dispersion pattern, and all have beryllium diaphragms and blend beautifully. Thanks for watching the video.
Joe
I just watched this again. Love the passion of this man. Rock on!
Thanks for your support !!!!
Joe
What a wonderful man, a true audiophile with a lovely setup! Keep up the good work
Thanks for your kind comments,
This man has obviously built his dream system! It seems that he loves showing it off and I can't blame him one bit !
This is so cool! You should make more house visits like this Steve 😊 keep up the good work
Awesome!! I'm a home remodeler though and kinda freaked out when he said he screwed down and glued over the original flooring. Still recovering from that, but otherwise, absolutely awesome.
Yeah, lets hope the next owner shares his interest in audio, or someone will have bad time tearing that bunker out :D
Ya killin me ovah heah !!.... 18 minutes of the most killer build Ive seen in recent history and no sound sample !!! ??? I totally got blue ear right now.
I am working to get a video playing music on the system.

Wow! Truly amazing series of videos. Some of your bet Steve. Thanks.
Thank you !!
Wow! That’s dedication.
Thank you !!! It did take a lot of planning, research, and work.
Joe
You know Steve this is a real deal honestly...
Whenever is a bloke with a million quid system posing front of the camera I say bhaaa whatever that just money not a talent just money. If u got the dirty cash u can buy yourself into basically everything. I believe there is a love and passion and fan craziness towards hifi and music but I think even in the hifi circles is just a small percentage of cases also u can see it and feel it on the person too . And here we go a real hifi nut this is what i call hifi even if myself is a trillion light years a way from this kinda level .
Well done to find and introduce a such a black belt master like Joe .
Thanks
Thank you for your kind comments !!!
Joe
a completely stunning system btw, love it! LMAO at the screen, I'd looove to see a good movie with a 9.2 surround anchored by that system.
Looks like the stereo Dr. Frankenstein would have in his laboratory. This is the first time I've ever seen Photography ballheads used for tweeter mounts! Looks Killer!!!
Very, very impressive, I'd love to hear something like that.
Hi, mrfrosty3 if you are ever around the Brooklyn, N.Y. area, you would be welcome to come over and give the system a listen. Thanks for watching !!!
Joe
It would have been nice to let him play some music so we could get a taste. I realize it is tough to hear what a system is like from a recording, but still it would be interesting. This gent has accumulated a great deal of knowledge and built an incredible room. Well done.
Lowther surround sound drivers.... Nice touch! 😃
I wish I could visit him too. Very interesting!!!
If you ever get to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, I can make it happen !! Thanks for watching.

WOW! My wife would throw me out if I attempted anything like what he has. Good job.
Yes she would. Wouldn't me though.
From Police academy to audiophile, amazing....
Best thing is the speakers don;t shoot back !!!!
Joe
We NEED to hear what it sounds like not just see it.
What does it bring to you, when you hear a soundystems Sound reproduced by your cheap Headphones or even Smartphone speakers? You Can't reproduce the real thing...except with the real thing :D
@@holzleder570 That is all true, I agree. But at least one gets some idea of the sound.
@@holzleder570 His speakers are also not the real thing unless he only listens to synthesized music. Yet you can still get an idea of how good speakers sound because just like listening to a playback of recorded vocals on good speakers can sound good, as long as a high quality mic is used to pick up his speakers, some of the quality can be conveyed through a secondary system.
@@LordPrometheous but not through cheap Headphones or smartphone loudspeakers. And even TH-cam compresses the audio Quality to a minimum.
@@holzleder570 not everyone uses that crap, and even so, it would still have a sonic character that is different from a typical cheap speaker played on TH-cam.
What a genius!!! Great video
Jackson , and Slagle! Hope I hear "Chapman" somewhere here.. (he just gifted me his TAD 1601c loaded cabs, and I'm in the land of horns now) teehee
those rattling venetian blinds must cause distortion in this astronomicaly elaborate sound system
No, the blinds are siolid oak and have never heard one peep from them--even at 100+db levels.
Joe
This seems like an extreme setup and so much thought has been put into every aspect, Would a Synergy horn perform as good as a separated horn system do you think?
The only synergy system I have heard that sounds excellent is from Danley Sound Labs. Building a good diy synergy speaker system is very difficult, takes good carpentry skills, and lots of trial and error. Check out DIY audio.com. Thanks for watching !!! Also look at www.danleysoundlabs.com/products/loud-speakers/synergy-horn/
Joe
Half way through and getting impatient even though Joe is hell of an interesting guy. Just can't wait to hear them!
Thank you !!!
Another great video. That’s a truest amazing set up
Joe that is incredible!! Do you have a website with the build information? I would love to make it. I'm willing to pay please
I appreciate your interest. I belong to 2 audio clubs in the N.Y. C. area. You could check around as I am fairly easy to find. I have not not documented the build as ii went along ( was not thinking about that at the time). I know all the details however.
Joe
Respect !
that's got to be loud. love it.
YES, It can easily power a medium size movie theater but it is more important to play clean, dynamic, and do justice to the music.
Joe
I now take a look at my miniscule tiny mobile phone speakers and I start crying 😂🤣😉😃
You can change that !!!!!
Joe
Wonderful stuff!
Way to go, Joe!
Thank you !!!
Joe
wow!! nuts!!
Beyond awesome !!!
is it just the angle of Steve's cam, or is that mid-bass horn blocking that red tweeter from reaching seated ear-level?
Dang 300watts/channel driving speakers that have an efficiency of 108db., You can probably hear this system all the way to Mars.
Hi, Greg. You have the facts wrong !! The 845 mono blocks are 36 watts per channel, which power the entire horn system ( 60 hz. to 40 khz. ) and the subs ( 12 hz.. to 60 hz.. ) use a Crown I-Tech 5000HD amps strapped to mono for about 3,000 watts fer channel. Thanks for watching !!!
Joe
Very interesting dont know why it popped up but kinda glad it did watched the whole thing would like to listen to some live zep and definetly ELP
Awesome. This guy is a baller!
You certainly didn't want to be a bad guy on this mans list, he doesn't miss a thing.
You are correct !!!
Joe
I build a subwoofer with a tc sounds , after we were done weight about 300 pounds , those woofers are insane. And hard to get these days
TC Sounds made the best sub drivers---the main reason I used them but very expensive.
Joe
Those horns sound amazing via TH-cam and my laptop's little speakers.
This is great inspiration.
Love this!
It's always fascinating to see how "in controll" you actually are when dabling with your personal Hifi. Since there's always dudes who go all out on shit you'd never thought was even possible.
Thank you for your positive comments !!
Joe
Crown xls amp, you have to love when someone actually gets what sounds good, not the highest price :D
THD < 0.5%
Meh
Joe should get out more, just a thought. Impressive system, though.
Actually, we traveled to almost all the audio shows in the U.S.A. since year 2000. This terrible virus has cut our traveling but went to the Capital Audiofest in Rockville MD. last November. We DO get out !!!
red and yellow bottle ...slica add it my thinsets......thx. nice sys too .
I want to listen to these speakers!!!!!!!!
Did you have to add additional floor joists and Jack's under the horn system?
No. The construction standards in N.Y.C. are very high, This house was built in 1897 and used good wood ( real ,actual 2 x 4's etc.) The floors could support thipple the weight of the horn system. I reinforced everything anyway when I gutted the house. No nails were used, only screws.
Joe
@@josephbulger7302 Great work! I have always wanted to build my own house, but I'd probably go way over budget overbuilding like that.
Hey Joseph, what are your reasons for using two drivers per bass horn? Efficiency of space?
Ease of fabricating one horn vs two?
Hi, Vikas SM
I did 2 drivers mainly for the 3db gain in efficiency, to keep up with the 108-110 db efficiency of the compression drivers. The other reason is the two 16 ohm drivers, in parallel, would give me the 8 ohm load I was looking for. The last thing I wanted to do is needlessly pad down the horn "stack". The extra power of 2 mid bass drivers is most welcome and there would be less strain compared to a single driver. I have had several audio friends come over to "challenge" my speakers with "very challenging" music, only to be dissapointed. This speaker system just sailed through the "challenge"with ease and proved it self to be very musical, accurate, realistic sounding, and unflappable at any spl level !!!!! Thanks for watching the video !!!
Joe
@@josephbulger7302 Wow thanks for the reply! Some good insight there, it'll surely help with my project. Thanks again 👍👍
Ugh... the fact there there isn't a recorded sound demo of this AMAZING system is killing me.
God bless unions!
The NYPD has the PBA ( Police Benevolent Association ) which is technically a union. It is against the law for us to strike.
Joe
Joseph Bulger
Funny just got off the phone with my sister. She’s a Metropolitan Police Officer in DC. The NYPD PBA is significantly better than what I think she has. The issue of no striking certainly takes the “teeth” out of collective bargaining however.
Seriously, amazing setup, subs go 12 hz at 100 db! That's an earthquake, that can't be beat
This setup is enough to make ya cream ya pants.. well done that man..
Thank you for your kind comment !!!
Joe
Oh yeah?!! Well I got a kenwood hooked up to acoustic studio speakers😤
This must be like a candystore to Steve, since he is a speaker horn lover.
I like that he uses a Crown amplifier, I also have one, great bang for buck.
But I wonder how much reverb is produced by the hard floor, I would rather install some carpet on the floor to prevent it.
Reverb is created by MULTIPLE reflections bouncing around a room.... But his single bounce off the floor never gets a chance to reverberate. He's got lots of absorption and diffusion on the walls & ceiling, so the floor bounce becomes a non-issue. It's this way in many recording studios too. You rarely see the floor carpeted, but studios have all the upper surfaces treated properly.
@@TheMirolab Hmmh ok makes sense.
Hey Joseph! Totally awesome system. What’s your handle on Diyaudio? I’m sur3 I’ve crossed paths
Hi, I go under Hottattoo. I try to contribute on the Analog Source forum
Steve,
Can you do a video on ported vs imported soeakers. A friend of mine claims that now matter how well ported designs are you can always hear ports.
Out of my wheel house. I do not like ported speakers.
