Hello, Sharmon! I'm first! Yay! Dickman's is fun! Been looking forward to this all day! You're really dping well for yourself, especially with the tinies. Too bad you're not finding any wentletraps! I'm really interested in the post-Helene shelling! Wow! What a beautiful Alphabet Cone! That's a great find! So was that milk conch! Have you ever thought of making jewelry? I have seen some totally gorgeous colors and incredible shapes of "Detritus" that you put back down, and then I gasp and sigh in Chicagoland...
Holy cow, I can't believe you found a Milk Conch!! Those are so much rarer than Junonias, probably around the same level of rare as the Queen helmets. My guess is that they live in the loop current area in the Gulf, and occasionally wash in SWFL from that area along with other occasional Caribbean/SEFL shells. Thanks for sharing, that was so fun!
I was hoping it wasn't a wedding shell 😃 And to think there are SO many other species that I am terrible at identifying as I've never found them. The books are good, but being on the beach is the best teacher around!
Stay safe in this hurricane I see it might be affecting your area ❤ I love your videos and I recently a week before Helene shelled in Honeymoon Island and was so excited to find the shells I’ve seen on your channel!
Heyyyy Sharmon!! I’m the one from Maryland that just wanted to do some good shelling. My husband and I were able to do treasure seekers tour yesterday afternoon to Morgan Island and it was incredible!! Other than taking a little fall amongst all the sticks and cutting myself up a bit we found some amazing treasures, including a large horse conch❤ Captain Jim said you were on his tour about four months ago. Thank you for recommending them. They are amazing.
Was the area okay? My daughter is in St. Pete. We were going to visit her, but our rental was damaged, and the residents had to cancel our Air BnB. I suggested we might go to Ft. Meyers, because I didn't see as much damage, but then I saw some news footage where they were using plows to clear the road. I don't want to be that insensitive tourist, either. She was really shook up by the hurricane, and wants us to still come, but we aren't sure.
Fort Myers is pretty much okay - it's just Fort Myers Beach that got a bit beat up. You should be okay to find something in Fort Myers proper. I hope everything is okay with your daughter!
Love the wedding ring! I wear one like that to the beach too!! So that is not a paper fig?? I have called it that for years. What a great haul. That ALPHABET CONE!! So fun. Hope all is well after the storm. Poor Siesta Key! One of my favorite places besides Sanibel area. Hope your week is great and see you Sunday!! XOXO
We were going to take a trip to Clearwater Beach this weekend but we will hold off for now. I am sure those beaches will need us to visit in the future. I am so sad for everyone recording from that hurricane 🙏🏼
Hello Sharmon, I was sorry to learn Fort Myers did not get off as easily as I first thought from Helene. I am still stunned by how far and wide she spread destruction. Lovely shells today but you always find them even in the summer. Take care!!
Thanks Sharmon. Praying for all affected by Helene. I have a friend in nw VA that has damage from rains and tornadoes. My daughter in SC still out of power, ex husband below Lake Lure, NC. Can't reach his home yet. Not to mention TN, FL and GA. Helped someone find info on their elderly Mom in Valdosta. He's from Alaska. Finally heard from her yesterday. 🙏🙏🙏
Watched both your videos tonight. FMB wasn't as bad as I anticipated and not nearly as bad as the barrier islands up my way. That was a beautiful dark AC! And lots of great LW's. Don't know when HI will reopen, but I know I'll need some beach therapy when it does! Thanks, Sharmon! xxoo
The videos from up there look just like our destruction down here from Ian. Going through it is so awful - likely why I still talk about it as we are STILL recovering 2 years later. The destruction really takes the joy out of going to the beach, but I'm telling you the beach doesn't care. The creatures and birds will return as we figure out the best place to pile the sand this time. We only borrow sand and try to put it where we want. Storm and Mother Nature win every time. Stay safe beach friend ❤️
Please pray for East Tennessee and Western North Carolina among other places affected by Helene. The destruction is a lifetime catastrophe for many.🧡🙏🏼
The kayaking for me is a pain...getting the boat on my roof, driving down, getting it off my roof, getting it to the water, gear, seat, paddle, whistle, etc., and then there is the paddle over to the islands. Not far - Dickman's is like maybe 15 minutes and Kice is about 30 but it's a lot of work. The plus side....you get to stay as long as you like! On a shell tour, you do need to leave when the tour is over (drawback), but when you get back to the marina, you get in your vehicle and leave. Not get the kayak out of the water, get it back to your vehicle, get it on your roof, secure it down and then remove it and store it when you get home. So if I wanted to spend the day on the island I would kayak there. If I really just want to be there a few hours I take a tour. I hope this helps!
This was recorded before Helene. I visited Dickmans Island in July on a shell tour. Much fun. Went at low tide but did not find any sand dollars, just a few broken ones along with a few shells of what you found in this video except the alphabet cones :(....
Thanks for the adventure. Anxiously awaiting your next video. Been trying to get information and it's been mixed. Mayor says visitors stay home for now. And then the next news is something different. Ohhh please i wanna go to the beach so badly 😢😢
We didn't get hit too bad down here so other than the update video I released, I don't really have much more info. Down here in the Fort Myers/Sanibel area we are experiencing some clean up - but nothing compared to our northern friends. I personally don't go to the beach if I'm afraid I'll be in the way.

About that flock of birds suddenly swooping and feeding....look out a bit to the left past the birds. Is that a couple of creatures' heads poking out of the water?
