    Even in Japan, they import foreign manufactured car models like BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, etc and you'll never hear them complain that German cars are killing the local industry. Instead, they strive to match them in quality and features. That's competition

      *Nope! I don't think so, Kenyan designers and makers of furniture are very clever and creative; in fact just take a picture of any piece of furniture you like or bring one of them to the store to see for themselves. This guy will see it and he or she would make the same thing for you, even improve it to your liking at a very friendly price. So, what you see in these shops are only sources of inspiration for Kenyan workers if you really care to support them. It is is wonderful using those armchairs sets in your home knowing that you paid 75K shillings that went to create Kenyan jobs than letting the money go to support jobs in China or England for that matter.*

      Whichever way u look at it, Kenya will become a Chinese supermarket. This is globalization at its worst. Forget jua kali and local manufacturing. They can't beat Chinese prices. Unless...the government heavily taxes those imports to even the playing field.

    • @s.koileken369
      @s.koileken369 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raanajak471 *you really seem to forget how China itself became such a powerhouse, through making copies of western goods and their tech. I appreciate your viewpoint but you seem to underestimate Kenyan workers. You also seem to ignore their capacity to organise through SACCOS, Kenya actually, leads many African countries in this area. In spite of the challenges, I have a very positive outlook that Kenya or even E. African countries can reproduce Chinese successes here at home. I don't know your experience but I have seen African workers making clothes of very high quality for export, I have seen the same quality in furniture. The government can do its part, but we shall not leave everything at the mercy of the government. We are African, and patriotic to our regions or countries, we are aware of colonial history and its economic / psychological implications. These heritage my friend together with the education, energy, resourcefulness of our people are powerful forces that I have no doubt will drive us to higher levels of econ. development.*
      *There are many of us who are looking to invest, create business opportunities for our people even under current circumstances where foreigners have a temporary advantage. The political climate will change with time and we shall outwit these foreigners' game plans. I am a very strong believer in the Kenyan worker: I and others who love Africa will support them in this direction.* 😊

      Actually WEB DuBois himself, after whom the road is named, said it as DuBois (he pronounced the s). He said that the Frenchman who had raped his grandmother did not seek her consent and he therefore felt no obligation to respect the French pronunciation of a name foisted on his ancestors. Ironically when those who have no background in French therefore say it in the way Dolphine does they are pronouncing it as the man after whom the road is named did.

      support is not stifling completion.what moses kuria is trying to do is retrogressive and actually illegal in a capitalistic market. Competion improves products and prices. Its good for everyone. "our" people need to compete and do better to stay in the game. unless you are suggesting they are incapable of doing that.

      That would be our greatest pleasure but are our entrepreneurial people mindful of our pockets as buyers at all?
      China Square has shown us that indeed ‘our people’ highly exaggerate prices for the same goods.
      So in these hard times who shall I be mindful of: our people or my pocket?

      We cannot continue to bear the cost of inefficiencies of our people. They must style up and work on cost reduction without compromising quality. That's achieved through competition

      I don't have the money Kenyans charge. Give me China prices like they have in Europe and the usa. Stops me having to bring things back to kenya each time I travel.

    And well China Square is overhyped since it's marketing strategy got buy in!
    Other than that it's just your everyday supermarket don't call it a mall. Unicity is the mall.
