im installing one in a bobcat 440b skid steer. been a fun little project. skid steer had a 16.5 hp kohler in it that broke a rod after i got it running. the duromax is much better than the kohler was!
I replaced a Honda 390 with this Duromax 440,. It was a direct replacement with no mods necessary other than swapping the throttle mechanism, no mods were required for that either. The side by side speed increased from 23mph to 30mph! Now I am going to install a stage 2 performance kit and then consider the governor delete.
I've got one of these 440cc Duramax engines in my golf cart. It's been in here for a little over a year. I still haven't removed the actual governor. I'm on my second motor though. My first motor I bought was pull start because I thought I could add the started later and save money in the moment. I blew up the motor by redlining it with the governor bypass I've rigged. The crazy part though is how it killed the engine. Your flywheel has a magnet that's just glued on. When that magnet came loose it hit one of the terminals for the charging coil. It broke the post that was holding that side of the coil splitting the inside of the cylinder wall on the spark side... Not leaking oil but no compression because it all comes out the side of the head. I've rigged the same Governor bypass on the electric start version I replaced it with. Everything is fine I just don't red line it anymore. I feel like that flywheel is way more important than that Governor gear at high RPM. The arm that comes out of the top of the engine casing that normally connects your Governor I have completely disconnected. I have a straight throttle going to the carburetor. I want to put like a carriage bolt there, something through my floor board and adjust it to where the pedal just can't go to the floor anymore. 😅 I don't want to remove the stock flywheel because I use the charging system with a rectifier and a regular cheap car battery for all of my electrical on my golf cart.
I'm putting my Duromax into a 96 Yamaha G14 golf cart. It took a while to find a primary clutch but now that I have that I can't wait to get it finished!

One of those Duromax engines would be a great power limiter on a Prius CVT 3-phase engine alternator/generator/welder/maybe-plasma cutter. Wondering what you can get one of those CVT's for out in Maine? Thanks for the confirmation on the interchangeability and other detail. Red Beards Garage I can't afford that build in the future? Way to keep it on the real deal budget!
Im stuffing a 440 stage 3 duromax e start into a 50 cc kids quad currently 😅 for myself i have built a custom ( transmission) with 3 up and reverse that mounts on a 60 series torque converter robed off a Polaris 1000 .... Its going to be nuts when done i had the same setup with a predator 420 at stage 5 turbo and nos running on propane it went 65 uphil with my 380lb azz😂
I "used to have" a SEARS FF20, 1982 CRAFTSMAN GT6000 (Kohler Magnum 18hp Horizontal Shaft) with electric Actuated Rear Sleeve Hitch with 8 Attatchments, and 2 1994 GT6000's that where WIP (WORK IN PROGRESS). I have never owned a DURAMAX Engine, I always prefered my Kohler Opposed Twin Magnum engines...
I dont own a duromax small engine. Can't afford one right now. But I have thought about them for my horseless carriage idea. Cause I plan on sometime building 1800s and 1900s car when I get the money and can find a mechanic that can help me in my state of Michigan since I have no mechanical skills what's so ever. I am building a car with a Duromax. It will use a 8.8 Ford rear, GM manual trans and a solid front axle from a gasser. The body will be a roll cage from a side by side go kart.
i see people using them in mud motors. im a mud motor dealer so i would love to try a duro max on one of my motors but never seen them available in canada
Have a question with the briggs intek 17.5hp carb and what would cause them to flood out and die. Carb looks clean but I'm pretty sure it's the carb. Still stumped on it because of it running rich then flooding out. Also good video on the governor removal. Thanks buddy hope you the lady and little man have a wonderful week.
I'll recheck the needle, seat and float to see if they are bad. Carb is fairly new but it is a Chinese ebay carburetor an haven't had much luck with them other then the yuing carbs for honda clones.

Duramax predator whichever other Japanese clone they're all the same cuz I had a 420 predator that I was a moron on in didn't have break in oil and I destroyed the crank and it now has a Honda ZRX 390 cranking it and connecting rod and it works just fine I could have brought it back to Harbor Freight but I decided I wanted to fix it

Why bother taking the governor wheel out? Just disconnect the linkage between governor and throttle and you're just as good with 5% of the effort, and no need to pull the side plate, replace the gasket, brute force out the nylon governor wheel/gear, grind off the shaft that the governor turns on and cut off the linkage rod inside the case.
@@coryenke The arm inside does not enter the crankcase. It comes down under the side cover on the output end of the motor. Anyway disconnecting linkage at the throttle would do the job and wouldn't cause any damage to the motor.

Lowrider 3 wheeler build. 15 tooth sprocket on a 40 series and a 37 tooth on the axle, gonna be a fast one.
Plans to put an 18hp Duromax on the front of my Sky Pup ultralight...It's on the heavy side but fuel tank will be relocated..see If I need more power.
When removing the governor gear, I've always just used a center punch on the other side and it comes right out all in one piece :)

I put mine on a husqvarna gt2254 and put a cvt on it then ran a chain from the cvt to the tranny, it goes about 35 mph
And now it's a waiting game bud lol, hope she don't let go.
At this point it doesn't owe me a thing. I made back the money invested in the build about a month ago in TH-cam income.

You take the chance of the arm on the inside falling down or hitting the crank and exploding your engine better safe than sorry
