Ford Heavy Tow Haul challenge gcvw 30ton

  • Whats Fords biggest load hauled? Heres a F-450 hauling 20 ton scraper. Fluid filled tires and an extra fluid filled tire in the bowl along with an unmounted tire. Truck trailer combo weighs 19,500 +/- 800. Fuel tank in truck full or not. Fluid helps keeping this machine from nose diving and turning over on sharp turns. Each tire has approx 250 gallon of fluid. The machine weighs 28k- 32k varies to which site providing specs. 3rd axle on trailer is air bagged and factory installed it is rated 24k. But the tires on it are not rated to that amount. Hydraulic disc brakes on truck and trailer. I am looking into doing the air conversion on the next one.

    pulling isn't the problem. braking is the concern

    • @antdx316
      @antdx316 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      What tire pressure is required at the rear also w/ newer trucks do you have the ability to change brake bias so you can put more brake distribution to the rear so you don't smoke pads? I mean the other option is to have air brakes on the truck and the trailer then this issue shouldn't be too much of a problem. Air brakes are the greatest brakes I've ever used.

    Me and my dad used to haul a 22,000lb cat forklift on a 34ft trailer with a 2500 duramax. Not sure how much the trailer weighs but its 34ft with 12,000lb tandum axles. The truck probably weighed somewhere around 8,000lbs, and if I had to guess the trailer probably weighed 6k to 8k lbs. Put all that together and you probably got between 35k and 40k. He of course upgraded to a 3500hd duramax and it handles that Same load just fine. That load was definitely a bit to heavy for a 3/4 ton truck though.

    That is a 412 international scraper, 11yd. It only weighs 27,000 lbs full of fuel and fluids. I use to move several of them for a construction company. I love how some TH-camrs like to stretch the truth. Maybe 30 ton was a typo and 30,000 was the intended.

      M Ban how much do you think that trailor weighs?

    • @mban2120
      @mban2120 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The trailer should be between 6,000 and 8,000 lbs at the most, depends on who built it. If it weighs more than that then why bother pulling it because it would be so heavy. Like I said in the other post, 30 ton is prob a typo and 30,000 lbs is a little more accurate. 30 ton would be 60,000lbs, that would be a D7 or D8 Cat dozer, TD20 Dresser dozer or 220 size excavator.

    My blood is Ford blue, but to put this much weight on a 1 ton is dumb as hell. Sure the truck will pull it, but stopping is a different story. Just like those idiots that pull a 6 car trailer with a F-550. Putting lives at risk because they're too cheap to do it right

    • @riverrat8647
      @riverrat8647 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Danny Jones, it has 5 axles of brakes. That’s 10 individual sets of heavy duty brakes. Same as a semi pulling 80k lbs. This is 30-35k pounds. It is plenty capable of stopping this rig safely and effectively. Especially if that trailer has electric over hydraulic brake setup, which I imagine it would have on a triple axle, dual wheel equipment trailer.

    • @tractorboy31
      @tractorboy31 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This trailer has a minimum of 24k worth of axles but more likely has 3 10k axles the new trucks are getting ridiculous on towing ability my 97 f350 is rated 12.5k but im doing 13 going to 15k max

    • @UncleBubbles94
      @UncleBubbles94 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Justin E Go look at the brakes in a semi and then the wimpy little brakes in that truck trailer combo in the video and tell me again it has the same braking power. This is exceedingly unsafe.

    • @riverrat8647
      @riverrat8647 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      UncleBubbles, I’ve been hauling heavy equipment for decades. I have a class A license. I didn’t say it had the same braking power as a semi. I said it had the same amount of brakes/brake axles, or at least it should. This truck is definitely overloaded and not heavy enough to properly handle that amount of weight behind. With that being said, it can still effectively stop that load assuming it has proper bakes on the trailer. Frequent and heavy braking will definitely cause brake fading from excessive heat buildup, but the same will and does happen on a semi very easily. Oversized load with a semi go well over the manufacturer rated towing capacities. Escort vehicles for these type of loads play many roles as far as informing the driver of what’s ahead. Part of that role is to inform the driver ahead of time when he or she will need to brake. I am in no way condoning this with a 1 ton truck.

    It’s not a question of if it can pull it it’s if it should pull it? I mean the 6.7 Cummins is used from pick ups to light duty trucks they are more than capable of pulling that weight. But your putting a lot of faith in a 2 5/16 ball, and 15 inch disc brakes, one ton suspension,shits dangerous and there is no way you could even your axil weights out and your clearly over your gvwr and I’m positive the tires on the pick up are not rated for that much weight

      @brandoncaldwell95 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mtrujillo1973 Actually, if you watch the video he posted in his comment, it shows how. But honestly i and noone else cares. You have many of numbers. Goosenecks and 5th wheels have a 25% load on bed and bumper pulls have a 10% load on hitch. Your hitch might be rated to pull 14000, but the rear hitch can only handle 1400. That 1400 comes off the weight of the carry capacity which might be 3400lbs , so youre only rated to have another 2000lbs in the vehicle as long as it doesnt exceed your axle weight rating that might be 2000lbs. That means you can only have 600lbs in the bed on that axle unless you spread it over the front axle as long as youre not over there.. Then by law, it comes down to numbers for licensing. a trailer over 10,001lbs requires a cdl. Over 26,001lbs combined is CDL A. Unless youre farm marked. Noone gives a shit then..

    Another super-trucker wannabe, a pick up truck is not a semi truck, there are a lot of differences starting with their brake systems

    Why not just buy a truck that is rated for doing the task instead of working that poor truck to death? Yes I get that it can do it but why? I guarantee that truck won't go as many miles without the need to replace crazy shit as one that wasn't treated like a redheaded step child.
    This would be different if you had a truck that nobody else had but ford produced literally thousands of that exact same truck, so all your doing is showing other people how to destroy their shit quicker. If trucks like these could do this all day long then semis would be obsolete.

    You will find that ford on the road dead if it pulls that much longer.
