My dog loves fejoa, we call it footy season as he plays fetch with them till they split then he eats the inside. (He’s a very small dog). They have a great aromatic taste. Love what you are doing with planning to have fruit and veg all year round. I am doing the same only here in Queensland up on the Great Diving Range. Great video!
How exciting to finally get a feijoa harvest! We have planted about 12 feijoa bushes on our property and are looking forward to getting a lovely large harvest one day. It’s one of the things we miss the most from NZ. Cheers Deb & Dan
"Negatives" in a garden are just something we haven't yet found a reason to embrace as a positive. Just as "weeds" aren't "friended" by gardners and all other growers, they have a beneficial place in creating a productive garden; these weeds are 'the first responsonders' to deficent soil. not only should they be acknowledged for this pioneering task, there are many other ways they can contribute to the productivity of our garden(s)"weed tea" for one.
Lots of compost and mulch 🌱 it’s always a work in progress adding more good soil on top each year. Having raised beds and containers helps to get going quickly

I enjoy the content of your videos so much and have been inspired to try some of your suggestions from other videos in our backyard garden in Zone 7b in the U.S.! As much as I enjoy your videos, your speaking pattern in this one is halting ... stopping and starting with awkward pauses in the same sentence. I find it distracting, but I am sure it is not as obvious for some viewers.
hi, your swiss chard look absolutely phenomenal! what do you use to get rid of pests/aphids . I really want my swiss chard to look like that but they got destroyed by leaf miners and such. looking for organic ways.
I haven’t had much trouble until now really but I know with all my fruit trees I will have to keep an eye on it. I think it helps none of my direct neighbors really have fruit trees. I make sure all fruit is picked up from the ground and I may need to bag fruit it he future. It’s going to be a work in progress!!
@SustainableHolly I am in the southern suburbs and it's a big problem for me. I have tried bagging and netting but find some pests possibly rats eat through the bags and nets and take my fruit just before they are ripe. Also I've never heard much about fijoas or guavas where can I get some to see what they are like to eat before purchasing a plant. They don't seem to be common in shops. Your trees and fruit seem to grow extremely well.
Yep I do! I'm not sure what mine is as it was from Marketplace but apparently large white flesh fruit. It has one flower so hoping to get a taste soon!
Holly, do you fertilise your feijoas and if so, what with? I'm wondering because mine are about the same age and size, also seedling types, and although the fruit are fairly plentiful this year they are quite small (not like yours). 😏
Hi Claire, no not really. I prune them every year and just let it breakdown underneath. I also mulch and use liquid compost teas etc sometimes. Mine have increased in size each year they started off pretty small! I think that is one of the downsides of a seedling variety is that you never know what they will be like unlike a grafted named one.
@@ClaireBaxter I give my feijoas worm wee too. They love it, next year will be the second year I’ve had mine. I have two and they are about 3 Times the size, I’m hoping I’ll get feijoas next season

Slugs are ferocious here in Rockingham this season. I’ve found feijoia & strawberry guava at Bunnings in the past.

Just like an orange but lemon flavoured 🍋👌 I mainly eat fresh but now I have so many I need to make something!

Holly how do ypu control the fruit fly I find it a very big problem with all my fruit here in perth.

Holly, those feijoas I was licking my lips when I saw all those feijoas you harvested it 🥹 I’m crossing my fingers I get my first feijoas next season
It was so exciting! They come in hard and fast though and now nearly gone 😭 luckily I froze some 🙌
