Thank you for making this video and breaking it down. I’m a music producer, but a beginner guitarist. I realized that most of the chord progressions and melodies I hear in my head, are played by a guitar or harp. I decided to stop making beats and focus on training my hands to play what I hear in my mind. Your teaching style and content is helping me. Peace and blessings to you and your family.
Sweet! Love how you teach man! All without rushing through everything so we can pick up on all that your teaching. Also love how you include important information that others usually leave out like the key, chords scale connection and all else. Had to subscribed and will definitely be checking out all else you have. Well done! 😎❤️🎸🎶💯👍
Picked up these licks quick and you have amazing teaching. For some reason it’s easier to learn vs all the other rusher teachers on youtube, you’ll definitely be receiving support from me man this is greatly appreciated
just came across your channel this past weekend. been on and off with guitar but your videos are breathing some life into my motivation so i definitely subbed. Appreciate the educational and smooth content my man!
These licks should work over most if not all of the chords in the progression. You can play with the timing and articulation to make them fit over different sections of the loop.
@@TizoGuitarThanks for the Awnser! I will use my ear to find out Where it fits the Best. But if you want to Support... You only play the lick over those minor chords. Does it fit a major chord. Do you Start on a special chord Tone, or Just taking care of the key itself?
@@kb8582 In this particular, I’m not paying much attention to starting licks on specific chord tones but that is another great way to go about soloing. You could try modifying these licks to start/end on the 3rd or 7th of each chord to really highlight the changes, but I find that starts to sound more like jazz than R&B.
Hi 👋🏾 The progression plays a big part because that’s the context and context can change how a lick comes across. To me an R&B lick is one that uses notes and phrases that an R&B singer would use over an appropriate chord progression. You could totally look at them like smooth jazz licks or just plain pentatonic licks and you would be correct as well.
Great video! I know my question can sound a bit stupid but.. how do I can find my own chord with a my own lick and when I put them together it sound good? Sorry if it’s my question is not clear English isn’t my native language
The first step is to understand which key you’re in. At the basic level, every major scale has 7 notes and every major key has 7 standard chords that can be made from those major scale notes. If you want to make your own licks that sound good over a chord, it helps to use notes from the corresponding major scale and to use notes that are already a part of the chord. For example, if you’re in the key of C and playing over a C major chord, you want to play licks that involve the notes of the C major scale (C, D, E, F, G, A, B) with special focus on the notes that come from the chord itself (C major chord = C E G). If the next chord is a D minor, you can still use any of the notes of the C major scale with a special focus on the notes of that chord (D F A). This takes a long time to master, but the concept is straightforward. Hope that helps! I teach private lessons if you’d like a more in-depth explanation.
@@Anaïsss39 Sure! Watch as many videos as you can from different channels about the musical alphabet, the major scale, and the Nashville number system. Like 10 different videos on each. Test yourself to make sure you’re retaining the information. That’s where I would start.
It’s an alternating pattern. I’m picking the notes of the 1st chord, one at a time and then strumming the next chord all at once. Picking the notes of chord 3, one at a time and then strumming chord 4 all at once. Rinse and repeat.
that second lick is gonna be my new go to

What makes a lick to name it r&b?
Is the cord progression?

How do you strum(the progression chord in the background) are you picking each string?

Did you learn these urself, or written in tabs?
Hey there! Some of these are made up in preparation for a video. Others I learn from studying my favorite players.
