1:05 - 1:16 and 1:39 - 1:47 are the exact reasons why I got burnt out and quit from gacha as a whole due to its very nature, especially as someone employed working 9-5 you no longer have the luxury to invest time on scheduled daily basis. It is why I have transitioned myself into traditional single player games which does not have any of time restriction game design like stamina system, weekly bosses, battlepasses etc.

    I play Gacha games because
1- They are free with frequent content drops
2- Amazing characters, gameplay with really insane lore and story which is why I play them mainly
3- Doesn't take up much of my time with the grind
I am currently playing Genshin since launch, I started HSR in 1.6, ZZZ since launch and WuWa on and off since launch. ZZZ is my favorite of them all and where I actually spend real money.

I think ZZZ (if you don't mind there is little exploration) is Hoyo's best game. I wish the economy was a little less stingy, and that levelling wasn't so expensive, but the game is pretty crisp, the music slaps and the animations of the characters are great - seriously, how cute is Belle!? Couple that with low time investment, a stamina sink, and what's on order is actually fun and the devs actually listen: no more TVs, free Harumasa, and 1.4 really delivered on story ... all in all it's a complete package.

@@John_II Yup not only Hoyo's best game but one of the if not the best Gacha game in the market right now and I have played a lot of gachas before and after Genshin but nothing comes close to the quality and polish that ZZZ has with maybe Reverse 1999 being an exception but it's 2d so it doesn't count the gameplay is boring for my taste but still a lot better than FGO.
I have never spent money on any gachas except buying the monthly pass sometimes but ZZZ is the only game where I actually swiped to get M2 Zhu Yuan and M2 Lighter my two most favorite characters in all of gachas.

@@John_II Just picked up ZZZ a few days ago and it's really impressive. Dropped Genshin for it and satisfied as hell with my current line up of WuWa, PGR, ZZZ and HSR.
If I had to drop another game, It would probably be HSR due to all the Genshin tier yapping.

I don't know how people can handle more than one Gatcha at a time, but Genshin is all I need because its story and characters are great. But I agree the FOMO/sunk cost can be a bit overwhelming at times. Since I started in 3.2 I use Genshin as a coop game I can play with the wife, so that helps with staying engaged as well.

    @-Getsuga- 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

I get the sunken cost fallacy part and that you miss playing "normal games" - I have that too, but it's such a shame to hear that you quit WuWa but stick with Genshin, cuz honestly WuWa straight up mops the floor with Genshin like crazy in nearly all aspects IMO. WuWa 2.0 is just insane and pretty much the greatest update to a gacha game I've ever experienced and I play(ed) quite a few. I never ever had this much fun playing a gacha game, including every honeymoon phases I had with them before. Playing WuWa 2.0 didn't feel like playing a gacha game at all, but like I was playing a premium full price JRPG or something - I enjoyed the HECK out of Rinascita, man! It's just so good and made Genshin's 5.3 patch look so bad in comparison... And I say all that as a former massive Genshin fan who was heavily invested in that game, but it is losing me more and more now...
You should definitely give WuWa another try!

    • @hijodelsoldeoriente
      @hijodelsoldeoriente 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I totally agree with Rinascita. It's the first time I played a gacha where it felt closer to a AAA non-gacha than gachas like Genshin.
I'm a huge Genshin fan (until I got disillusioned by how greedy and unresponsive the devs are) but I have to agree that with Rinascita, Genshin doesn't offer anything better in almost all aspects at least for me personally. Including story and story-telling. Perhaps the only thing they have is the content and well-built lore due to its years of active service.
I have to say, it's the best gacha patch I've ever experienced as well.

  • @300y1
    @300y1 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

I get you on the fomo, daily checklist downsides. When you get to a point where you're like "I can't be bothered logging in today" and stop playing for a week or two, you'll find that you have no desire to pick it up ever again because all that kept you there was fomo. The only reason I'm sticking with ZZZ and WuWa atm is because I highly value the combat experience.
I stopped playing HSR because it was just kind of way too simple, and pulling the newest units will have you beating content on autoplay. And at that point, if little to zero skill is involved, and I'm pressing two buttons or on autoplay, am I even playing the damn game?
I've also recently become very jaded when it comes to gacha stories. The first incentive will always be to sell you a characters, so everyone that shows up has little to no depth, characterized poorly with no development (Mavuika is the biggest mary sue, jesus...) and villains are morally gray-washed to be as appealing to as wide of an audience as they can. There are no stakes either because they usually never ever risk anyone dying, and if they do die they'll get revived somehow (Fugue lmfaooooo). I can pick up a 2.5/5 YA novel on goodreads and it'll have a better story, character interactions, character arcs than anything you'd find in a gacha games because the monetization method poisons literally everything.

    • @MauveButterfly
      @MauveButterfly 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Another issue is that since the product is the character, they can't change the product after purchase. This doesn't just apply to character kits, but also to the character's personality. Imagine your favourite character going through a traumatic event and coming out with a changed personality or perspective. Some people would love this, but a lot of people would be upset that the character isn't the same any more. (Think of all the people who named their daughter after Daenerys from Game of Thrones; her character development sure wasn't received well.)
This is admittedly speculation on my part, and to my knowledge there aren't any laws against having character development unlike with nerfing characters post-launch, but I wouldn't be surprised if the writers and marketing teams are told that they aren't allowed to let a character deviate from their established role too much. With examples where characters did undergo a large change, such as Raiden Shogun or Wanderer from Genshin Impact, the character development happened before the character was first available on banner as I recall.
      ---
tldr: The point of all this is that it's hard to write a good story when you can't do anything with your established characters.

Natlan pretty much made me quit Genshin Impact ngl. Aside from the nation of war really being the nation of dj'ing, dancing, singing and friendships what irked me also was mavuika.
The only thing she couldn't do was paint, and it's stated she commissioned the picture of her family in her room. At the end of the archon quest she decides to learn how to paint, does the job in a single day. She destroys Capitano and Xbalanque, and gets told by the latter how damn perfect of a leader she is. It's like the writers didn't even try to hide how much of a mary sue she is. I was hoping that all of this was to build up to her plans failings due to her arrogance, but nah we don't ever see that. Just really disappointing.

I get you man, the feeling of wanting to play a game for what it is. The exploration, discovery, and letting our curiosity leads us. Wuwa 2.0 is the closest thing so far, i genuinely just fly around, visited whatever place im curious about.
I dont even care about the gacha and the quests i just explore and do stupid shits like flying to highest peaks of the map for sightseeing.

You pay to buy a JRPG and experience it, or you pay (way more than you should) to roll a character in a gacha that the story is totally free.
Or you pay with your time doing dailies as you said. It's all a trade off. You need to pay somehow, it just that gachas are inherently more expensive.
In my case, I play 6 gachas, doing dailies everyday, and this is how I see it:
Genshin, Star Rail and Honkai Impact are the 3 games I like the most. Their stories are awesome, and also their characters. I want to roll for them, so I do every content for that.
But even though I also want characters in WuWa and ZZZ, their stories fail to captivate me. I still do dailies most of the time, but I don't use stamina nor do most events.
Girls Frontline 2 happens to be in between these 2 groups. I kinda enjoy the story but I don't play the complicated game modes in its events.
Edit: I forgot to say, no one plays 3, 4 JRPGs at the same time, so of course it would be strange to play 3, 4 gachas at the same time too.
You either choose your 2 main games and focus on that while treating the others as a side enjoyment, or you'll burn yourself.

I agree with you on the banner aspect but even as a daily Genshin, ZZZ, PGR, WuWa [among others...] player and mostly F2P at that, I think it becomes an issue of how far are you trying to push content. Are you trying to clear everything? Are you trying to 36 star abyss and grind out each and every Asterite or max reward even to get the nonesense weapon and skin you know you will never use?
Change your approach to how you play them and if you cant afford to YOLO Credit Card whale, then do yourself a favour and pull for what looks fun and work with what you have. minimise the risk of Gacha FOMO by just... Playing the game.
I play WuWa the way you said you are playing it right now... also if you are feeling burnt out [I Know the feeling] just take a break perhaps it will change how you enjoy the content.

I've been playing gachas for like 10+ years now, and I get it. I'm trying to take my time with WuWa because I marathoned my way to Rinascita to get enough pulls for the characters I want, it ended up making me feel exhausted with it. And then I log into HSR and GI and I have nothing to do besides dailies and its... Such a strange feeling. It also makes me feel like gachas burn through my free time to play games and I end up Not playing other "normal" games, but I still can't let go of them.😂

Its sad because if gotcha games were not gotcha games, they would be far more enjoyable, just selling skins or something for monetization like every other game.
On the flip side of the coin, if they were not gotcha games, they wouldn't have the level of revenue available to do all the extremely high-quality trailers/concerts/ etc. that we love them for because gotcha makes far more than skins.

I completely understand what you mean by events. There are some like the Beetle Battle in Genshin and the various ones in Azur Lane that don't feel bad because they only take like 5 minutes. But then there are some that are really annoying and just take away from why I started playing Genshin in the first place. There's not even any rhyme to them, they're just whatever the devs feel like doing which makes it even worse.

I started cutting back on what I do in Genshin, and I enjoy it much more than I used to. I don't like building new characters, so I don't have any reason to spend stamina. Since any new characters I get would need to be built, I just don't get new characters, meaning I don't need to do dailies. A lot of those minigames felt like chores, and since I no longer need stamina or premium currency, I just stopped doing them, too.
Now I just play through the story and do exploration while using the teams I already have built. If I don't log in for a week or two, I've missed nothing.
I've been using this newfound time to get into other games I've been meaning to play. Funnily enough, that's also a Persona game for me. I loved Persona 4, but never got around to 3 and 5, so I decided I'd rather put my time there instead of doing gacha chores.

As someone who started at 1.1 I'm familiar with genshin burnout. My favourite thing to do in genshin is map exploration. Once its done it's not that fun anymore. I did get addicted to the pulling but grinding became a chore. Taking a break for a year and returning when the new region was 4 patches in was great. Sure I missed some free skins and one plot related event, but other than that it didn't feel like I missed that much. I did it two times: first time in Inazuma then returned in Sumeru, played for three months and dropped it until half of the Fontaine map came out. I'm going to drop it again after the last Natlan tribe part of the map unlocks. Then it's a goodbye until 6.3 probably.

I played genshin for three years. Than i started seeing that it becomes worse and worse with each update. I droped it before fountaine update, than returned for at least some fountaine. got arlechino (that is there just to power creep and not to introduce something new and fun mechanics) and wriotheslay (that started the path of disrespect. its not even complete character and large part of his gameplay is hidden behind c1). I dropped it again realizing that it goes the wrong way.
Than wuwa came and it was like a breath of fresh air. it had everything we didn't get in GI in 4 years and even more.

I think the reason y so many ppl got burnout is due to playing so many gachas and gachas that consumes ur time a lot, for ex: after u finish GI story, u have to do zzz next, but ur time and focus got consume by GI, so u don't have the motivs to do zzz, which is the problem.
Also another reason is ppl putting all their problems in a gacha game like zzz for example: ppl getting mad due to combat being repetitive and boring in the main story even tho a lot of ppl also hate tvs as well since lauch which made them quit the game and want to removed it entirely.
Edit: Overall this is just my speculation, so if u have more knowledge, feel free to correct me, thanks.

I quit GI and WuWa just because of its Size. I think Open World+Gacha is a Terrible Concept. 4.0 Took me 2 Days to fully explore. And not even for Sidequests or something it was all for Oculi and Chests,Puzzles or in Short Currency to Pull. 2 Days of just looking into some online Maps and Run from A to B for another Oculi. And thats not even including the Story or Sidequests which are also 2 Days +. Meanwhile HSR 2.0 took me 1 Day to fully explore, doing the Story and doing all Sidequests.
I usually like Open Wormd Games but usually just for exploring Resons and not because of FOMO cause i might missing 1/20 of a Pull inside a Chest.
These Days my only Gachas i play are HSR and ZZZ cause there i have the Feeling it Respects my Time the most. Daylie Stuff is Done in 5-10 mins, Weekly Stuff is not longer than 15 Mins and once a new Patch comes out its usually around 2-3 hrs of Story and 1 hrs at max to fully explore the new Area.

I will prefer gacha games over triple AAA title...in the end it all boils down to preference. But I hate triple AAA with all trashy DLC overall. I played nearly all their games except the woke trash. AAA games only give at least 70-100 hrs of their story content and the rest is just replaying the game. To complete most AAA trophy or achievement only takes at least 300-500 hrs. Unlike gacha games the variety is everywhere is just which of the games hook you the most. In the end of the day I will give gacha live services game my money overall. Than the current gen modern triple AAA title since I already know the outcome...Gacha and any live services game give me thousand of hrs to play thru rather than hundred hrs just to collect dust. Elden ring and it DLc, Wukong, Baldur gate 3, cyberpunk 2077 and the rest are just collecting dust. While the gacha game I can rotate my playthrough and still have my content. The beauty of these games is their transcience. The fact that they end.
I feel like you treat video games as mere products with no artistic value. That's probably why your primary standard of what makes them good is just how many times or how long you can consume them like a commodity.
