    Load and Reload were, and are, great albums. I'm glad they happened. It really diversifies and fills out Metallica's catalogue. If they had pulled a Slayer and always just kind of did the "Thrash" sound every single album, it would have, frankly, gotten boring. I love the 90s albums, even if my top favorite album is Justice.
    And while their 80s thrash albums are epic, and their last two "more thrashy" albums are great, Black, Load and Reload honestly had some of Metallica's best song-writing. Easily some of my favorite songs of their catalogue on from the 90s.

      @damonwillis3672 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just find the load albums to be very boring with a lot of filler. There are some good songs but it just felt like Metallica were starting to water themselves down. Plus the whole image thing makes looking back at this era feel very hollow. The whole decadent rock star thing just didn't suit them at all...it wasn't them. It was a put on. I actually like the St. Anger album. It was Metallica starting to truly show their true emotions again.

      No, they are just super rich at this point and don't care about anything. The proved they could put out 3 terrible albums in a row and still be the biggest touring band. Now this is important, how many songs do they perform off Load/Reload/St. Anger?? Not many, most off the first 5.

    • @juanrezende4914
      @juanrezende4914 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikehauncho4874 Well, these two albums is so rich musically, because there's a lot of things about hard rock, alternative rock, southern rock, grunge rock and country music. So you can't say that is crap, because there's a lot of kind of genre on these two albums. And you just don't like this kind of music and you're not prepared to absorb any of that musically, and you don't understand anything about music. So the only thing you can say is that they are "crap albums" but you don't have the authority to say any of that, because your only justification for thinking like that is the simple fact that it's not thrash/heavy metal. So your arguments have no credibility and should not be taken into account. Your arguments have the same relevance as a poo in a toilet bowl. So, like I said, Go grew up!!! You are wrong!!!

    I respect MetallicA so much, and I remember all the butt hurt people saying "Man,MetallicA sucks now, they are playing the blues, and hard rock instead of thrash, and heavy metal. They even cut their hair. MetallicA isn't metal anymore!" I hated to hear that, because fans of a specific genre seem to think that the bands they love or like are not allowed to try new ideas, or to change the way they look. Kudos to bands that do stay true to their thrash or heavy ways. And kudos to them for keeping their hair long, but are any of those bands on the level that MetallicA are? No, they're not. MetallicA wanted to show that they are more musically talented, than just playing thrash, or playing as fast/heavy as they can. That only goes so far, and that wasn't going to be healthy for these guys. They did what they wanted to do, and I commend them, and I wouldn't want them any different. I love MetallicA, old and new. And respect to Jason for finally doing what he wanted to do, and I have no doubt that Cliff would have been on board with the direction MetallicA went. Cliff was interested in classical music and it was noticed in his style.

      Metal was born out of blues and hard rock as well. Metal in the '90s came back to its roots with low tunings, slower tempos and groovy, bluesy riffs. I personally loved it. The '80s metal scene would've been extremely stale if it had kept on continuing.

    • @MetallicAAlabamA
      @MetallicAAlabamA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kruegernator123 Exactly! That day back in 1936, when Robert Johnson had his supposed deal with the devil at a place known as the crossroads in Clarksdale, Mississippi How he sold his soul to him was the perfect combination to start a sound that imo is the greatest sound to ever come into existence. And that is the distorted crunch of the 6 string electric guitar. I love the thrash and speed of the early 80's metal. But I love the fact that smart musicians knew that staying fast and complex with their style, and bowing down to people that had no clue. Instead they took their music in the direction they wanted it to go. And that is why MetallicA is and always will be, the greatest band in the world. They should be looked at as exactly how a band should represent themselves if they want to succeed. Especially in today's society.

I always wanna to defend the laod/reload records, i know that maybe 26/25 years after a lot of people who grow up with the Master or Kill Em All or whatever hate Metallica during 96/99. I was born in 98, but for me as a fan since i was a kid i recognize with all the letters how Metallica dont want to repeat themselves after the Black Album, it happens with every band. They can't put another record like Master/Ride/Justice. Things change, and for me i always open to changes when it comes to music. Obviously I don't like all the changes that many bands do, but i always have this anxiety to see what the next record sounds like and it's fine for me. If i was a teenager during 96/99 i will go to any Metallica gig, really. Ps: My favorite song of the Load record is The House That Jack Bulit 🤘

    This is a very unpopular opinion, but Load ended up turning into my favourite album by these guys, in the past it used to be And Justice, and for it still remains as my favourite thrash album overall, but over the years I feel I've been connecting with the music and lyrics from Load/Reload far more than any of the early stuff

    Funny how people thought they were so different in 1996 but they dont realize, especially now that this was literally only 13 years after Kill em All came out so far more time has happened from 1996 to today in 2023. 1996 Metallica is closer to 1986 Metallica than todays Metallica, they may have gone on a musical journey but they were still the same goofy guys. It's clear from this interview

    This is the moment they said goodbye to metal. Which is okay...if you had the musical chops and maturity to make a transition to something greater...which would be proven they most certainly did not.
    They made the mistake of thinking they were and trying to be artists...when they were just high level thrashers. They realized their mistake later...but by then it was already too late to recapture or build on their past glory.
    There were some good songs on death m and hardwired though.
    But you know what they say...once you leave you can never really get back.
    Great memories from 80s and early 90s for this aged out metalhead though.

    As far as the music, Cliff Burton would have been totally in to playing this stuff. He probably would have predated the rest of the band on the softer more mainstream music. But as far as cutting hair, eyeliner, etc. I just can't see him doing it.

  • @drummer7557

    It's not the point that they did it, it's the point (or was) that Metallica said they wouldn't conform to what everyone else was doing, and they did. BUT, they did it to extreme. They went from sounding like Metallica, to sounding like a bunch of other Grunge/Alternative bands that were out at the time. So they were betraying the fans, by saying oh we do "what we want", which is fine. But when you do it so much you don't even sound like the SAME BAND. That's a problem. They never knew or know how to change gradually. The 90's were a hectic time for metal, I was 19. Most gave up, changed their sound or got even heavier. But there were a few that stuck to their guns. Lars and James just wanted World Domination ( to be the biggest ever). Look at them now.
