  • Last weekend I decided to escape the honey pot hills and the chaos of the A82 and A9 to hill walk on a Corbett in the Southern Highlands. Could this hill be the quietest in Scotland?

It’s bonkers in that entire G F country park A. Done the hills (Merrick, Cairnsmore er al) a few times and always utterly empty. All the wee nearby towns are like something out of the 39 steps tbh 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Never knew they’d put up a wind farm.......in two minds about them, but I guess ultimately clean energy wins. Needs must. The run up from Dumfries to Patna is absolutely stunning, albeit Patna’s not the best ending. Loch Ken is heart achingly beautiful. Great vid as always Andy. You always do our country proud in your presentation of her. 👍👍👍👍

Sorry but clean energy is destroying the hills of Dumfries and Galloway.

Just noticed this was 3 years ago, hope you are still hiking and given you a follow after watching this lovely informative and relaxing video. Thank you for making this. I will definitely do this hike sometime in the next year or so , sadly I moved to Plymouth a lifetime ago and I'm thinking it's time to move home , even my son moved back to Scotland after lockdown.

The hills of Dumfries and Galloway are slowly being destroyed by wind turbines.

One I still need to do, can't beat the D&G and the Borders for a bit of solitude.

What a difference to going up the A9 and A82, free parking too :-)

@@AndrewParkOutdoors haha, aye the A9 and A82 can both get a bit tedious at times. 👀

Would this walk be doable in December/ January? Am going to stay with My Aunty Betty and cuz Elizabeth over Xmas and new year in Dumfries, my aunty took me up Criffel many years ago when I was a bairn. Love Dumfries and Galloway spent every childhood summer holiday their with my family ❤

For sure, it's a gentle slope all round so nothing technical to worry about, some crisp snow would really add to it.

Do think it was the time of year that made it so quiet? It looked like a lovely day out.

I think it's location Caroline, most folk head north from the central belt :-)
