Hello Ana . I dont want to sound so demanding , but can you also make a video about nihilsm and defeatist mindset and how to overcome this way of thinking?
Those health tracking gadgets can encourage excessive obsession about health, where every piece of data, every result, and every measurement become a constant source of concern. This can lead to health related anxiety.
Thank you so much Ana for pointing out how breathing exercises can clash with OCD. I've been told my whole life to try deep breathing to calm myself down and every time I end up feeling worse and breathing more shallowly so it's great to know that this is normal for OCD cases
i’m constantly in fight or flight. Always very defensive and constantly running away from anything that bothers me; I didn’t realize any of this until I began to age and educate myself on this type of stuff. I really want to heal, as I age ive been dealing more and more chronic health problems and I just KNOW it all stems from the way my brain defaults to harmful paths.
Even if I know that’s happening the physical symptoms still come and I get no relief even with medications besides slight relief from supplements I take.
Im postive there is a link between autoimmune diseases and stress, anxiety depression, neurodiversity etc, being in fight or flight mode on a regular basis
3:52 haha at the end of 2020 i had a period of intense anxiety attacks for the first time in my life (i was going through my first ever big loss of a loved one) and i just constantly went into this state of getting anxious for no reason -> feeling some physical symptoms of it -> thinking something was wrong with me -> getting even more anxious 😭 it was NOT fun, i’ve started obsessing over my heart rate, and i noticed that it increased every time i took a breath and decreased when i exhaled. i didn’t know what that meant, and neither did my family, so i started thinking that it meant something bad 😭 even health professionals thought it wasn’t normal, when in reality this means that your heart functions well
This is such an important topic. Thank you for sharing. I believe gaining a deeper understanding of why things happen can help us find a solution much quicker.
I’m actually coming out with a daily mental health journal in the next few months! I have two journaling methods, a daily practice that has really been keeping me centered, and a more complex as-needed format. The one I’m publishing first will be the former, and I hope to at some point also publish the second format :)
I'm mostly cognitive, the thoughts don't stop, so when I finally had a strong physiology response once I thought I was having a heart attack at 25. I didn't even know I was having issues with my mental health at the time and thought I was actually doing pretty well, but it's like my brain pushed the thoughts away and forced me to have a physical response.
I’m still watching but thank you for acknowledging it’s scary as hell to hear that being in such a stressed state is bad for your body when you’re constantly in that stressed state. It’s such a simple, small thing, but it means a lot!
Another thing: thank you for mentioning to do whatever intense exercise looks like for you. I’m disabled and typical intense exercise would be WAY too much for me. I appreciate your inclusiveness so much!
I appreciate this video so very much. I just had not 1 but 2 panic attacks last night that happened while I was ASLEEP. Waking up to your heart pounding & being unable to catch your breath is a surreal & unfair experience. Your information here has helped me understand just a bit more in order to figure out how to stop these incidents from happening as well as why they could be.
Ana, you're a gem and a blessing Could you consider making a video about leaving the trauma of the past, in the past? Consistent and constant ruminating can be disruptive & completely destructive to quality of life.
Such an amazing explanation of this topic! Talking about top down and bottom up. Mind approach, body approach. Two techniques that were very helpful for me so far: When I notice I am disassociated, I focus on one tiny part (index finger) and move it. Without intention. Meanwhile saying in my head: "I don't need to do anything else right now." When in fight/flight, I look around the room, move my eyeballs in their sockets. At the same time I'm telling myself: "it's safe, I can relax". And I focus on colours or objects. They are small actions, but powerful. And ofc the question one coach asked me once: "are you breathing? How much are you breathing?"
I need that. I went through a lot of stress till the point when even trainings stress me out because I need to lift heavy weights. Thank you for that episode!
WOW I've never been this early. Keep up the great work Ana, I love your content! Recently I've been loving learning about psychology and you're one of my favorite creators in this space. I wish you luck in your career!
Listening to you speak about the topic I started recalling all the past memories when I was having anxiety attacks. I was trying to stop it but it result in elevating them even more, so much that I started feeling anxious without any real reason. I had to stop and so I couldn't watch the video for more than 5 mins.
Thank you Anna! Love your videos overall but this one was really great. I have had GAD for around three years now and I’ve found that taking a body/nervous system soothing approach has really helped me through the toughest times. Tapping, yoga, breathing, massages, and just listening to what my body was trying to tell me have been huge tools for managing anxiety! Big believer that anxiety often manifests itself in somatic symptoms.
I've been doing a lot of work on my trauma responses and body work. This video was so helpful. I realized even though I practice yoga regularly, when I try to self soothe with breathing I was still breathing with only my chest, which did as you pointed out make it more difficult.
Wow I've been doing the TIPP technique by placing an ice cube on my wrists whenever I start to feel a panic attack and it's been super helpful, brings me back into my body and calms me down
Thank you Ana. I spent the last week reading all of Ryan Holiday's books on Stoicism and another book on using anxiety producitively. Your videos further affirm I am moving in the right direction and the insights in videos like these are timeless. I keep tabs of certain videos/books/journal entries etc to come back to in different moments and will certainly be remembering this one. Much appreciated.
Hello Ana, I usually don't comment on videos but I just wanted to appreciate you for this channel and the videos. Your voice is really calming and your manner of breaking down things into simple manner is so amazing. I usually listen your videos at night to always learn something new, improve my emotional intelligence and just listen to the topics you discuss. I wish that you'd start a podcast someday, I'd love to listen to it too♥️
Another excellent video, Ana! Your videos have been a great help for me to understand more about myself and how to help others in my life, too. You have contributed to me seeking professional help, which has already been so valuable. Thank you. Keep it up!
I have an Apple watch showing a low HRV (30 ms)... and after hearing your comments, I wonder if Apple is getting it right. I really appreciated this video - these are super helpful tips. Thanks ❤
Hey Ana, just sharing my HRV info - I suffer from PTSD and anxiety disorder. My HRV is around 100-120 and when I have my bad days goes down to 80. I eat well, exercise and try to keep my mental health in check.
Thank you so much for this very helpful video! I’ve struggled with anxiety most of my life and it flares and wanes at different times. I was just feeling a flare, and your tips here really helped! Thanks!
Always had underlying anxiety in my head....then had a death in the family....gave me health anxiety...4 months straight skipped heart beats...higher blood pressure...and ibs symptoms....so much better now but still feel skipped heart beats now a year later 😭
I came to this video after concluding I have an overreacting nervious system… flight or fight response most of the time. Apparently, I’m healthy, but I am under lots of stress for many circumstances. My HRV is 31…
Dear Ana, for many years I suffer from teeth pressing at night. From my observation it is always the same degree of clenching, no matter if I have stress or not. The responsible muscles just tense up and soon as I fall asleep. I tried hypose, acccupunture, as well as a yoga course once, physiotherapie (many times) and right now I am doing a second orthodontics therapy (Invialign) to fix my bite. Nothing helped my problem. Some doctors even worsenend my problem (e.g. with bad night guards) as many doctors doesn´t try to understand the source problem. In my childhood/youth I let myself supress by others and swallowed bad behaviour from others against me. I also had a toxic relationship that also damaged my mental health. So, how would you asses my problem in regards to the nervous system and what what you advise me to do ? I am seriously desperate.
Wow, from somebody who knows that the western top doctors don’t know a lot about spiritual and holistic healing, I know, for a fact that you know your shit. Bravo, and keep healing the nation.❤️🩹
I was hoping to catch you shortly after an upload so you can see my comment… can you do a video about regretting a breakup and how to deal with a breakup (when you are the one who ended it)? Thanks
4:11 My Apple Watch says I have an HRV of 66. I’d assume that part of that is due to my resting heart rate being lower when I sleep due to a medication I take, but I also exercise daily which I presume helps a lot
I wonder if the reason medical advice about drinking is more conservative here because the types of drinks people drink here are harder or maybe because more yeasty with beer, where Italy etc drinks more wine (at least in media). Maybe the properties affect the advice, and because people need it simplified the US makes a simplified suggestion
Okay this is the second time I've discovered that one of my stims is actually a therapeutic technique lol. For years and years I've tapped on my collar bones, usually with the bony parts of my thumb & middle finger kinda back and forth (on one hand). Apparently some of my stims also resemble EMDR techniques. But I mean, when you think about it, autistic stims are meant to calm an overactive sympathetic nervous system so I guess it's natural!
I have a samsung watch and it beeps very often telling me my stress is very high It also told me that when I sleep, I don't experience deep sleep but three period of light sleep most of the time also it tells me i am sleeping sometimes when dissociate guessing it's because i kind of stop breathing (not really but idk it's a specific breathing like very discreet) and my watch considers i sleep ? when i move it stops
I've tried all of these and hasn't really worked. I would add yoga Nidra. There's also research being done on ketamine and other substances that can help.
How can you Recomended 7/8 hours sleep to a person who has hyper arousal? Clearly can not happen my body no matter how much I will it to sleep it won’t so please be mindful in how you say things
I dont recommend kick-boxing if you care about your brain health. There is limited amount of micro-concussions one can take over their entire life. Maybe you meant something else by kick-boxing than this type of martial arts?
This is why mental health is physical health.
Hello Ana . I dont want to sound so demanding , but can you also make a video about nihilsm and defeatist mindset and how to overcome this way of thinking?
