    That was a great windfall and a nice system to get the wood out. Where I cut in North, Central Massachusetts is hilly and rocky and I can never get the tractor off the trail. I regularly use my Portable Capstan Winch to drag the logs to the path. I have 4 evenly spaced, one foot long chains with grab hooks on my draw bar. When all the logs are by the trail, I attach the draw bar, run choke chains to the logs and drag them to my cutting and splitting spot. As you say, it is hard work but I very much it. I am lucky that the firewood I cut in the fall I burn the next winter giving it o year to season. Thanks again for the video. GP

    The forest looks awesome, not sure what the forest looks where I am going...my wife and I will have 50 acres to explore soon and trail cut over the next few years.

    How would ever have thought it was so much fun watching 'mature' men gathering firewood? I don't recall as a youngster growing up this was nearly as much fun, maybe if we had the 'toys' you have to ease the physical strain, whatever , thank's for taking extra time to bring us these great videos.

    Thanks GP for the video. I really like watching your adventures. I’m interested in the HLA grapple as I also have Kubota. 2601 and like it very much. I’m wondering what size and model to get. The one you have seems to be the one I want. You do so much with it. Thanks again Wayne

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good day and thanks Wayne! Hands down the most practical and useful attachment I have. It is the "Light Duty Root Rake w/grapple". It is a 60" but if I could choose again I would have bought the 54" - I don't think the extra 6 inches is of any material benefit plus it widens the footprint of the tractor when in the forest. You probably know but HLA does not retail it - it has to be bought through a retailer. I know that Farmer Equipment Sales sells them, if that is helpful. And you will need to have a 3rd function valve installed on the tractor, if you don't have it already. Hope that helps and all the best!

They have a website - you will see it there called the "Light Duty" model with Grapple. The specs are there. She's heavy, much heavier than most, just so you know, as it is made of commercial steel - not the high carbon stuff. But it is built like a tank. Nice teamwork! I guess this is Guy's dog we can see around? So this tree alone gave you 2 face cord? That is one hell of a tree! Fairly straight, easier to split and cord. I was a bit surprised to see so few sapling when you where in the forest. No weeds, no ferns. Looked like it was early may. So I guess the canopy is very dense. Isn't it? I don't want to bother you too much about safety, but at 10:00, you might want to have your hand in line with the chain brake AND have your thumb wrapped on the handle opposite to your fingers. I once had a surprise with my thumb on the top of the handle and within a blink of an eye, the chainsaw kicked and my hand had no chance to hold the handle and it just hit the chain brake. No harm, only big surprise. Nice choice of music! Thanks!

    How old is all that wood that you got in that shed? I thought that you needed air moving on all 4 sides around wood for it to dry. im new at this I just got a wood stove and im trying to learn how to do all this. thanks

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey good day NF! Thanks for the comments and for watching. As I understand it, if you have a wood stove then you would need good dry, seasoned wood. The more exposed you have it (with air going through it) the quicker it will dry. The less open to air it is , the longer it will take , generally. So if you are splitting and stacking wood to dry, then make sure the top if covered (from rain , snow etc) i.e. with a tarp, and the more open it is on the sides the quicker it will dry in general. I hope that helps. Cheers!!

      And a good day to you OTM! Thanks for the great comment and questions. The tractor is a great size for me but recognizing I have only about 4 acres. It is great for manoeuvring between trees and obstacles as it has a very small foot print and lots of ground clearance. Not too familiar with the types of trees there (funny names though .LOL) but most of the trees I need to move are not too heavy or wide generally, so it works well for me. Average maybe 12-14 inches in diameter so if I had a larger property or generally bigger or heavier wood to move, I would probably be more inclined to look at an L series. Much heavier tractor (for stability etc) and more capability for lifting on the front and the back 3 pt hitch. You will see in other videos most of the time we need to drag really big hardwoods or other really heavy tasks, my neighbour usually does that with his L. On occasion I have tested the strength of the B2601 and lifted some pretty heavy stuff but if I needed to do that regularly, I would definitely need the bigger L series. Wish I could offer info on the Backhoe option but have not ever used one. Hope that helped a little. Let me know if you have any more questions - I will try to answer as best as I can. Cheers and all the best down under!
