I'd noticed on my own that the number of orphans compared to the total pop felt pretty high, so I spent a bit just observing citizens while the game ran. Originally, I thought that citizens were permanently losing custody of their kids when they were convicted of a crime. That isn't the case, though. Children go into the orphanage when their parent goes to jail, and go back to the parent after the sentence is served. I made a few observations while watching this happen, and I think I've determined why orphanages get overwhelmed so quickly. The first thing I discovered is that citizens reproduce asexually. By that I mean that everyone only has one parent. A citizen can have multiple children, but a child can only ever have one parent. Those are also the only two relationships a citizen can have. A citizen can be someone's child, someone's parent, or just a citizen. No spouses, siblings, cousins, etc. That means that if something happens to that one parent, there's no other family members who can take care of the child. That's why there's a high number of children entering orphanages. The second thing I noticed is that orphans stay in the orphanage for way longer than you'd expect. Any citizen who is under twenty-one years old is a child. Period. They live with their parent or in an orphanage. They can only move out once they turn twenty-one. While looking at the stats of my orphans I noticed several twenty year olds, with college educations, still living in the orphanage. So if a one year old's single parent dies, that child is going to live in an orphanage for twenty years. So in summary: The number of orphans is higher than expected because of how the game simulates families. Those orphans stay orphans longer than expected because of what the game considers a child. Combined, that means that orphanages fill faster, and stay full, longer than expected.
Thanks for sharing. Combine that with Charly just having killed some 2k citizens (some of which were likely a parent), that would explain some things. I'm curious: Do escapees take their kids with them? Or is that another source of orphans?
I’d say that with the meter to the right in the pump being nearly at half at 60m3 should point towards roughly 130m3. Assuming of course that the meters max is when the needle is pointing directly to the right
about the pumps, I heard bballjo mention this recently, although he said different numbers. I think he said that the big station was like 150m3 so... about 3 medium pipes.. or 2 small wells ( connected with the big pipe) testing this with an underfed water treatment plant, 3 small wells connected to a big pump to an underground water reservoir (that's empty !) via again 3 big pipes, never goes above 148m3/day, and mostly stays around the 138 / 144 mark
For whoever cares: An actual orphans number in 1950s in the Russian Socialist Republic (not in the entire Union) was around 630k. Total population of the Republic (again, not the entire Union) was around 100kk. Meaning that the number of the orphans in 10 years after the War was like 0.6% of the entire pops. Note that the actual amount of homeless kids was of course higher. Not every single homeless child was in an orphanage.
Awesome video. Agree, 800 to 25000 is a bit high. Maybe they get imported from neighbours? Because as you add a new orphanage there are more added to that orphanage than there was waiting for adequate care at the older ones. P.S. I hope your daughter is feeling better
You ask just how many orphans can a population of 26,000 have... Welllll I would counter sir, how many thousands of people typically die each year in a city of 26,000 during winter time! 😊
If I'm not mistaken you told us, in episode where you build the first ever orphanage that if people, parents of a kid died - than kid disappear or die with them. Something like that. You said that's a waste of human resources and that is why you build orphanage. Couple years ago you republic had about 3k deaths. Plus some hart strokes, etc. I'm not saying that my math is correct but... There's an eight hundred orphans you are looking for.
@@CharliePryor so you just need to keep on keeping on, and don't let anything like "Cernakova incident" any more. 1995 isn't an option, in my opinion. Around 2000 sounds more realistic.
how many people died when they froze in the new town? It's going to take 18 years to recover. It's a high number but then again a town with 26k probably doesn't have a steel mill, coal mine, 2 power plants, oil refinery, etc. I don't know of any city in the US that has all that. Is there a page that shows how many orphans there are?
The orphanage also houses children whose parents are also in prison. That could also be the reason for the high orphan rate. So I think the real fix would be to hit the crime harder with more police stations rather than more orphanages. A more loyal police force and wardens would definitely solve the issue of criminality in the work force which would hopefully reduce orphans
I would say 800+ orphans is too high the number of orphans in Ukraine before the war was about 105,000 from a population of 40m so I might be wrong but for 26k population I would make that about 70 orphans on average. Obviously some areas would be better that others and you'd need to take socio economic factors into consideration but I think 800 is way to high.
ouch. However think about it...if you just imported new immigrant population as needed, as opposed to spawning new population (as someone else noted in the notes it takes apparently one to reproduce, not a couple) for just a short-term period, would that give you enough of a lead to get the orphan population down more in line with a realistic percentage, along with intensifying education to get more caretakers/teachers in the orphanges...something to consider. Or...simply try to import a HUGE swathe of educators, if that can be done?
Timelapses are great. I think you should include them as a regular feature in every video :)

It could also be as you put their criminal parents away they become orphans who then if not taken care of become criminals themselves.

my perception , would be base on the amount of death. more death more orphan. great vid! as always.
21:54 you could've made the first pipe go straight to the intake after the first bend, then it wouldn't be so weird

@@АлександрКузьмин-в7ю Don't ever mention the Chernakova Incident again, comrade. NOTHING happened in Chernakova in 1978.
Charlie i guess that when you loose 1000 people you probably get more than 400 orphans (considering that some of those 1000 are also childrens)
It’s not that bad, but yes, death waves leave behind orphan waves
So quadruppel A games for the x1 in funding. Looking forward for that
9:58 We need to provide services for these orphans but first, these railroads aren't perfect

It’s a mixture of all sorts of things. They are all being attacked at the same time

well.. considering in real life minor orphans average 4% of the US population.... me thinks your numbers are a touch high lol
hmmm is there a way to pass an edict making having children less attractive, thus removing the potential supply of orphans??
There is research to “reduce birth rates” at the medical university, that just slows your growth of workers overall though.
