      The Godzilla song sampled the Led Zepplin song Kashmir, but I can see how you connected the sound. Very similar.

    While Maynard is not on substances, you hit the nail on the head for what the song is about: This song is about a friend of the band who is an addict and struggles with it but can only create when under the influence!

    That moment when he’s reaching out… about @8:10… you looked away and said “woah”. First time I saw this performance, I was absolutely transfixed. But at the moment he reached out, screaming, WHY… I inexplicably BURST into tears. (And I’m NOT a crier). Even after all this time, it still kicks me in the gut. Every time.
    I’ve been spiraling out with Tool since junior high, early 90’s. And their music just got better and better over the next 30+ years.
    Wings for Marie pt 2 aka 10,000 Days is my absolutely favorite. It got me thru the hardest time of my life. That song so powerfully allows you to feel ALL of the emotions associated with loss: the grief, the sadness, despair… but also the rage and anger and even disgust at the injustice of it all. IMO, it’s among the most beautiful pieces of music EVER created.
    Great reaction. Keep going!

    Anthony, you have got to do a reaction to “46 & 2.” imo, that is one of the only songs written that can be studied in music theory, poetry/literature, AND psychology.

    The Godzilla song is Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. Tools live performances are pretty cool. They have changed as they have gotten older but still the visuals are out of this world and they are pretty much play like a machine.

    He does own a winery
    Only drugs I have read of him admitting to (i dont view weed as a drug, personally) - he has done Mushrooms and Ayuasca (sp?) for "spiritual growth, more like a ritual type experience than the let's party hard tonight vibe

    You'll find out Maynard sings in very contorted positions in earlier concerts. It's amazing the power he can produce when he's bent over below his knees and swaying back and forth. Maynard just received his black belt in Jujitsu.

  • @Sky14318

    I’m usually pretty singer-centric. I gravitate towards singer/songwriters and bands win me over first based on their singer. Maynard is a frigging genius, in my opinion. Above and beyond songwriter. Incredibly skilled vocalist. Incredible performer. But Tool is SO AWESOME that no matter how mesmerizing and captivating Maynard is, there can be a 6 minute section of song with zero vocals and I can totally forget that there’s a singer. He comes back in and I’m like “oh yeah… vocals”. I cannot think of any other band like that. Astonishing levels of skill and talent. Each man, a master of what he’s doing.

      Maynard was the center of attention early on; like most “frontmen.” He did some really entertaining things. But over all, now concerts are better in how they sound. I saw them in the late 90’s and then again in 2019. Both “styles” have their pros. And really no cons. Unless you HAVE to have someone out in front. I imagine the current style might not do it for some people.

    Maynard doesn’t have stage fright, he has been on record many times saying he doesn’t want to be the focal point. He wants to showcase the band and music. Plus he said also with all the lights from the advancement of production on the tool shows and others he prefers not to be blinded by all the light and lasers.

  • @garrettmarshall1288

    I saw a comment on the live that said Maynard has performed from the back of the stage since Aenima onward. That’s not correct. Aenima came out in 1996 and between then and when Lateralus came out I saw them twice and he was in front. Singing from the back probably start after Lateralus or 10000 days albums. One time he was painted half blue and half red. He basically engaged in performance art while he sang. I think he did it to escape his stage fright but hats just my little theory.
    They are so amazing live. I saw them in 2019 when they released their new album: Unbelievable.

    • @paulyotwn
      @paulyotwn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fact Maynard has confirmed he didn't move to the side of the drums because of stage fright lol. He moved for sound reasons. BTW he isn't hiding behind the drums, he is set up next the drums on both sides he has risers he sings from. Anyone willing to wear a bra and g-string on stage doesn't have stage fright.

    • @garrettmarshall1288
      @garrettmarshall1288 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@paulyotwn yea I know he moved because it’s more practical. Better sound etc.
      what I meant is that my theory was that he was engaging in performance art early in his career somewhat as way to deal with the stage fright. Unless the stage fright narrative was always myth. There are plenty of those due to how secretive they were and the disinformation they would intentionally put out there.

    When I now think of Tool is that KILLING JOKE was supporting them on their US tour, the band that had a huge influence on many successful band like Metallica, etc. Even Dave Grohl played drums on one album...arr, Gordie Walker passed away too early. Tool has always put their music first meaning they do not party, or use substances. They take the job very seriously. The bass player is Paul D'Amour the original player who quit in 1995. Justin Chancellor replaced Paul, and the band has remained ever since. This is the rare instance where Maynard is in the front. In all three bands (Tool, A Perfect Circle. and Puscifer) he is usually on the side so that the focus is the music, and not him.
