Thanks Travis for all of your great videos. I lost my 6 year old AQH buddy last month to Colic. I was intimidated by the old barn witch that owned the stable where I boarded him. The horses there weren’t turned out enough. She cared more about her pastures than the horses. I knew better, but I let her intimidate me. Too smart too late. A hard lesson learned.
Thanks for visiting this channel and leaving a comment. Sorry to hear about the loss of your horse. I hope that you continue with your pursuit with the journey of horsemanship. The rewards with your horse are worth it when everything clicks and unity is there. Best of luck. - Travis
Steven I'm sorry for the loss of your horse. Those barn witches can be scary for sure! The lack of adequate hay and water probably had as much if not more to do with colic than lack of turnout. I'm a big believer in horses being out 24/7 which mine are, but I've had to keep horses up at times due to injuries. Keeping hay and water in front of them 24/7 is the key. You have to check water consumption daily in these situations. My handy husband made a hay box with a slow feeder top that holds a bale so I don't have to fool with nets and barn runs constantly for occasional stalled horses. The same witches that don't want muddy fields are usually the ones that don't want money spent on hay either, so they feed 2 flakes a day. Definitely not even close to enough to keep gut moving 🤬 Hopefully you can find another horse and board a different place. For future reference, you can sue the crap out of boarding place if horse dies through negligence. Many times, impaction colic results from the above reasons. No equine statute or liability release can protect them in case of negligence.
Travis thank you for talking about this subject. Great advice, not only with horses, but life in general. I'm the one that has to be able to sleep at night and that's much easier to do when you make decisions that are good for YOU.
Thank you kindly for the notice. We have been overly busy working horses and surviving the weather. We will be busy posting more videos in the future. Thanks for caring and I hope you're doing well. -Travis
