I would stick characters in a cup, freeze them in the freezer, then I would use the back of the Wayne Manor playset and have the Penguin "freezing" Robin, Catwoman, etc. I would use a 9 foot practice putting green as Wayne Manor lawn and set Wayne Manor at the end and drive the Batmobile up and down it. I got a LOT of use out of these as a 10 year old. Supposedly this stuff is still at my dad's house, but he can't remember where. I need this stuff back!!!!!

The Dark Knight collection Batman mold itself was heavily based around the tooling for Kenner's previous Batman figure from the Super Powers line in 1984. They didn't really start doing totally original new tooling for Batman until the TAS line and then they went even further with it for Batman Forever. Also, I believe the decision to re-use the old Super Powers mold for the Penguin was down to Danny DeVito's on screen appearance being considered too grotesque to release as a children's toy. I always thought the TAS one looked enough like movie Penguin that I always just used that one.
Batman Returns is my favorite Batman movie of all time and I have some of these toys. I have Catwoman, Hydro Charge Batman, and the 15 inch Ultimate Batman figure that has the suit from the movie.
My favorite from the Batman Returns line was the rocket penguins 😂. Hilarious in the film, even more so as a figure. (Over the top pitch for BMR vehicle- pallbearer penguin tank. A rocket turret for penguin soldiers at each corner of a face down Oswald Cobblepot. I could so picture that vehicle crashing through a wall of clear plastic blocks like in the commercials 😂) yup, looking forward to this episode

IMO Spin Master has done some good stuff with their 4" Batman line. The ones Mattel did (DC Multiverse I think) were probably nicer but they didn't have any playsets or vehicles for those. The Spin Master line suffers from the same problem every Batman line has (too many Batmans) but at least they've included a lot of auxiliary stuff for the figures to interact with.
I loved this line as a kid and wish i still had all my figures (been re-collecting them to my wife's dismay lol) the gold one got rereleased with this line with a gold version of the arctic armor, I had the DKC version that had the jetpack with pop out wings. If i remember correctly, the penguin was due to concerns that the movie version was "too scary" 🙄 even though the could have at least made a child friendly version that looked somewhat like the movie, like they did with Joker in the dark knight toyline (non movie masters one) i had the toybiz batmobile so i couldn't talk my parents into getting me the kenner ones lol but it's on my list for my display lol. I still wish we got the henchman for this and the first movie. I had to use an animated Ghostbusters Winston for the belltower joker thug and a warlord wwf figure for the circus strongman. Thats something lacking from all these lines, id love me some henchmen when i was a kid
I still have so much Batman Returns merch. It’s the greatest. From the bedsheets, Catwoman wrapping paper to the pencil case and cardboard cutouts. No movie of my childhood captured my imagination. Also if anyone wants a 6 foot tall poster of Keaton’s Batman that hung in Canadian pharmacies let me know. I don’t have enough room for this monster!
@@Pegwarmers haha understandable. Funny you mentioned the canopy, the hinge on that was very fragile. Mine broke as a kid and I had to be extra careful not to lose it.
Batman Returns was my very first movie that I went go see in theaters my dad and my Godmother's husband at the time took me and my oldest sister and my cousins to see batman returns and I was probably three years old at the time

As I’ve gotten older I’ve really come around on the creative liberties that toy lines took on some of their toy lines. Kenner definitely turned it up to 11. Fun video guys.
I recall going to an outlet mall in Pennsylvania and getting the Laser Batman there because it was the only Batman figure they had in stock at the moment. The silver quilted suit did strike me as kinda weird. It looked like Bruce Wayne made it out of a comforter he just had lying around his mansion.

The Catwomen Superpowers rumor is completely false. She was not in wave 4 that was pretty far along, and the art they did for her were based off the silver age version.

The 89 prototype was a Super Powers Batman for sure.

Never liked all the repaints, normal Batman was all I needed. I'd have been happier with more villains for him to fight or vehicles.

The rumor is that they used the base body and modified it with the stitches and a movie accurate head. A prototype of Super Powers Catwoman exists.
