As a white girl with curly hair, I can only speak from my own experience. I thought I had *slightly* wavy hair growing up (this is not the case, it's definitely curly) but no one around me knew how do my hair. Super stripping shampoo+not enough moisture conditioning+zero leave in products+BRUSHING MY HAIR DRY. This is how I was taught to do my hair by all my straight haired family. Those are the reasons I didn't know until my mid 20s how curly my hair is.
I can 100% relate to this. I eventually figured it out (in college) but my entire childhood was spent thinking I had slightly wavy, frizzy hair. Now it’s curly through and through

I completely relate to this. It wasn’t until I was an adult and started to take care of my hair that I realized I had curly hair.
My mom cut my curls when I was 5 because I was doing swim team year round and she had no idea how to handle the detangling. I had short hair until middle school and when I grew it out, I thought it was just wavy until we went to the beach. My hair was in a French braid and the salt water made my the baby hairs dry in spirals. My older sister was obsessed. But we didn’t have the internet, so I had no idea how to style it, and cut it short again until I grew it out for prom. Then I cut it again. Honestly, it was TH-cam that taught me how to do my curly hair starting in my mid 30s. Before that I thought I was a frizzy, wavy mess.
In my case, i'm a white girl as well but my hair is 3c/4a, and even tho i always knew my hair was curly (bc my hair and my dad's are almost identical) , my mom never knew how to do my hair (and my dad didn't know how to do it as well) so every day i was going to school it was funny, to say the least lol

I feel like society in general has hated curly hair for a long time. I'm white but my Nana has chemically straightening her hair most of her life and mum only wears her hair down if she's straightening it, so if it weren't for the black community I never would have learnt how to care for my hair either.

As a Puerto Rican woman I’ve always had curly hair and I remember feeling like the ONLY person while growing up in middle and high school who LOVED their natural curly hair. Ive rocked my curls proudly my whole life. I remember so many girls with naturally curly hair would wear their hair straight every day and then try to wear it curly randomly and it just looked like limp sadness. I always wondered why everyone damaged their curls so much during those years. So happy people are loving what God gave them these days🥰

Man, setting curly hair seems harder than setting coily hair 😳. My hair is 4a mostly with some 4b, and I don't have to do all this flipping around or scrunched upside-down ninja moves to get them to setup. It's kinda nice to see no matter the tightness of our pattern, us spiral sisters struggle together 👏🏾🤣❤.
P.S I was one of those people who didn't know they had a coil pattern 🙋🏾♀️. When I went natural during the pandemic, I was like what the hell is this....lol. I was shocked! So I totally relate with that girl. Maybe she was heat damaged all her life like most of us were chemical damaged 🤷🏾♀️?
Same. I was shocked that I have type 4a hair. My hair was extremely damaged 😭 . Thankfully it has gotten better

heat damage is a big thing for curly girls who haven't embraced their curls, but never underestimate the power of a dry brushout to transform pollyanna ringlets into a hagrid bush
They be doing extra stuff IMO. I have type 3b hair and don’t need to do any flipping Or scrunching. Use just one product and I can still achieve perfect volume and definition from root to tip
It is, 4a 4b hair also behaves more like straight hair as well. It's hold styles better and it keeps straight better than 2c to 3c hair

We legit didnt know, we grew up using products that werent good for our hair and we were told we have frizzy dry hair. We brushed it out and it went cray and we thought that was our destiny LOL I have seen many hairdressers over my life and NO ONE has ever said "I think you have curly hair" everyone was letting me suffer and just look insane. I had people tell me my hair is "poofy" and I used to straighten it everyday because I didnt know what else to do

idk us human beings stuff like this just make me sit here in wonder, it’s crazy how we only know what we know and base our realities on that, it just makes me imagine what other total false truths we are strong armed into believing from the jump but don’t even see how blatantly wrong we’ve been until faced with the alternate and correct reality
God yes everything here is so accurate, especially the word "poofy". Everyone told me my hair was so poofy when in reality I had natural volume and stretched out curls. Straight haired people really had me believing it was bad that I didn't have flat hair like them.
Hahahaaaa. I just read this and it is my life in one. I got told “you have really coarse hair” “I’m glad my hair isn’t frizzy like yours” and “you don’t have shiny hair” on the regular. Side note. Last week my own GRANDMOTHER said to me “your hair is getting really curly isn’t it?” NO it’s been like that my whole life. . . It just got fried to sh*#% by the straight-haired females in my life. Im 30. Have been wearing my hair curly for ~6 years and she has JUST NOTICED. 🤦♀️
OMG!!! I never thought about the hairdressers. They also told me I had poofy hair but I have never questioned why they didn't know I had curly hair. I feel betrayed right now.
@@ProfNDKai To your second paragraph...it's true. But the truth is out there when you seek it. And it's all coming light now in the age of Aquarius and shifting more into light. Not surprising people are discovering truth about their hair rn, but also much bigger truths are coming to light. We're in for a wild ride lol
My grandfather is Scottish, but left my grandmother not long after my father was born. My mother, whose whole family inherited our ancestors stick straight German hair, took care of my sister and I’s hair the same way she did hers. She made a friend about the time I was in middle school who is Irish, with a full head of curls, who was *horrified* to learn about the way I had learned to take care of my hair. She came over for multiple wash days and taught me how to actually treat my hair and I have been forever grateful. When I first saw how curly my hair actually is, I was gobsmacked.
I can relate. My family is mostly Scottish, and most of us have straight/wavy hair. But some people in the family, like my mom, have beautiful curly hair. She was never taught how to take care of it properly, though, so she hates it. I've always loved her hair, even with the frizziness, and never understood why she didn't embrace the curl until I realized she has never been taught how to take care of it. I feel bad for her going through her whole life feeling like she has "bad" hair. I've told her recently she should go to a black stylist who can show her how to make it POP. Agreed. Some of these are definitely wavy - not curly. But I definitely had the same experience as the first girl. My family had always brushed my hair intensely. Like crying from ripping out knots. It was always frizzy so my parents/grand parents would just brush it even more. Fast forward (20 years - yes seriously), my husband who has 3C hair, asked me to try his hair routine for a little while - as he thought I had waves/curls. I was 30 years old when I learned I had super wavy hair. NO WONDER MY HAIR WAS SO FRIZZY ALL THE TIME.

I’m white and I have curly hair and I just love seeing black girls and and the black community embracing their natural hair or wearing their hair how they feel most confident. And it’s rlly interesting seeing other girls hair routines whether that’s braiding their hair or just styling it. And btw I loveeee your braids, they look soo good :) ❤️
Honestly. I think the BLACK natural hair movement did somehow do a lot for white girls. I knew white girls that would only ever wash, blow dry, straighten... It was always strange to me cause I would think their waves and curls were so pretty. But, I I mean... Imagine they don't like our kinks and curls and it seems like somewhere along the way they stopped liking their own.
Also, I think conditioner on the ends is better for them since their hair can get greasy without any product and I also think it weights their curls down too much. That's what Ive learned/observed. Anyway, always love your energy 🥰
the way i view it is that eurocentric beauty standards were taken to the extreme, where only a very specific type of Western "white" person, (e.g. straight blond hair, big blue eyes, pale) was considered beautiful. but majority of europeans don't even look like this. and everyone felt pressure to become that narrow vision of beauty. now, thankfully, it seems things are changing and we are appreciating all kinds of beauty

I finally realized around quarantine that I never grew out of my curly hair when I was a baby. I just didn’t know how to take care of it. I started experimenting with different curly hair routines and was finally confident enough to wear it curly to school!
I have wavy 2b-2c hair and I agree a lot of these videos are confused about the hair typing system like I used to be. Chizi has talked about this in other videos with type 3 or 4 hair. If you read any of the hair type charts out there most of them say that type 2 wavy hair forms an S pattern. But most of my hair forms curls, not S-waves when it is not frizzy. However like Chizi says in other videos it's not just about curl pattern! It is about curl size. Most of these videos do have large S or C shaped curls that lie close to the head AKA type 2 hair which is considered to be wavy hair.
Just a question but why does it matter what type of curls others have or you have? Like yeah it’s extra info but it’s not as helpful when looking for products you need hair texture is more important and wavy hair is also curly hair still just a way looser curl
@@kayla4069 in the context of this video I think when people are looking on social media for curly hair videos, they expect to see curly hair. That is one reason why Chizi does this series right? If I was looking for tips and advice on wavy hair and it was a bunch of 4C videos it would be frustrating to me.

As a white person with curly hair, I always thought that I had straight frizzy hair. My family knew nothing about taking care of curls. I would brush them dry and not even putting conditioner sometimes. Now my hair is so curly and coily and people that knew me from these days are like what? So I kinda relate to those girls that had "straight hair"(didn't know how to define their curls) and now their hair is super curly

Yep….. my mom would sit me down and make me straighten my hair and would complain about how my hair is so frizzy and how when I wanted my hair curly that curls made me look fat… she even cut my hair really short because “I couldn’t take care of my hair”

Ok 1) The holding back on comments is so real 🤣❤️and 2) Coming from someone that has loose texture and tight texture, I understand the trails and triumph for each side. And yes, scrunching works wonders. And for the diffuser, I have been wanting one for so long I feel like it would make my life so much easier when it comes to wash day.
I tried it a handful of times. It looks like a birds nest. My lazy effort on wavy hair light products otg is my go to. The most expensive hair products I use on my hair is for health. Not so much investing in the styling tho. Well, my broke self... I'll be using those things to crunch with too and pretty much anything works... Thx

I think the issue with not knowing your hair is wavy, curly, coily or the tightest of tiny buckshots is trying to make all of those textures fit into the straight hair mold from like birth or childhood. These textures need specific handling to shine. Straight hair air dries straight (more or less--what do I know), but the rest of us have to use other methods. Or at least we have to know what our hair needs whether it is more conditioner, more cooperative styling products or professional help. We cannot treat all hair the same way. That just makes most of our hair textures seem problematic because of misdiagnosed hair care methods and products.
Healthy hair is beautiful hair. Treat it right and it will be luscious and it will shine:)

Also…my face 😏 when I see obviously long haired Curlies complaining/talking about shrinkage. My daughter and I both have waist length hair, but my daughter’s shrinkage is more dramatic than mine! When her hair airs dries to 100% it’s literally at her shoulders.
The looser curlies from the vid don't really have 'curly' hair. You can curl straight or wavy hair by scrunching with enough product. It would be like if you straightened your hair and said, "I didn't know I had naturally straight hair!" (former hairdresser)

I didn’t know I had curly hair until college (when a black friend of mine showed me how to actually care for it lol). My mom has pin straight, thin hair so she taught me to brush mine out to the point where it lost all curl pattern when dry and I would straighten it as a teen. I also have recently discovered my hair to be curly, and I think 90% of it was that… I didn’t know there was a difference in how you’re supposed to take care of curly hair? And also YOURE NOT SUPPOSED TO DRY-BRUSH IT??! I’ve been dry-brushing my hair for my whole life wondering where my childhood ringlets went and it turns out I was brushing them out the whole damn time.
I swear I had no clue either, despite owning curl creams (Face palm), I thought they were just there to moisturize but not to style (Loooooooool). Yeah, I', sorry if I'm giving you a headache.
Was so surprised that I can style it curly, sleep with it, and wake up the next morning with it looking even better than the night before. Had a wtf moment..
I really want to embrace my curls but I am still so traumatised from school. Some idiot spread the rumour that my hair was permed and fake, so many girls were always trying to touch it with their greasy hands. I have tied it in a tight bun since then.

After chemotherapy my hair grew back curly from my original straight as a board hair. My bi-racial grandson told me how to care for my hair since it’s curly. We have shared several hair styles, ones he enjoys. Loose and very wavy, don’t comb it after a shower and brushed out after a comb through so it’s kind of loose as a goose. He enjoys my hair and that’s all that counts.

As a white girl with super fine, low porosity, type 2 hair, the “condition only the ends” thing is more a fine hair thing than a curly hair thing. (Not thin or low density hair, I’m talking about the “compare a strand of your hair to a piece of thread” test.) Conditioner can sit heavy on the strand rather than in the strand if the strand is thin and/or not very porous. I thought my hair was stick straight and over-produced oil until I was like 19 and a friend started cosmetology school. These days I stop the application about an inch away from my scalp and my hair looks so much better, and I can either let it dry mostly straight or use some product to tighten up my natural wave into an actual style.
I've started using black hair products not too long honestly and its really helped my hair. Before it was just frizzy but now when it dries its actually nice and wavy and i don't have t wash it everyday. It's really sad that nobody ever helped me with hair and i kinda have to learn it all by myself rn.
Also remember that when you're hair is damaged like this for such a long time their curl structure is damaged or even severed so it's gonna take a lot of work for months to get to your actual curl
It’s funny to see people discovering they have curly hair. I was always keenly aware that my hair was curly given that my mother (white) took me (not white, although it was never acknowledged) to get my hair relaxed when I was 3. What I found out as an adult though was that my hair was manageable and not an embarrassment to be hidden, as I was raised to believe.

It seems like it’s so trendy to be a “curly girl” that people act like there’s no such thing as waves. Wavy hair is just as beautiful as straight and curly. I’m sorry but imo if your hair air dried without styling is not curly, then it’s most likely wavy. Scrunching and diffusing with the right products can DEFINE your waves, but it won’t make it something that it’s not. A lot of the girls on this video appear to have 2b-2c hair and while it’s close to curly, it’s still wavy. Just love what you have, it’s beautiful!

I have very wavy beach waves that have some curl patterns and everyone tells me I have curly hair :( I always tried curly hair tips which sorta worked but it wasn’t enough, I just recently found out I have very wavy hair and I’m proud of it now!! Wavy, straight, and curly hair are all beautiful, but unfortunately people assume wavy is curly and it’s harder to take care of thinking you have curly hair
@@nameless.artist1513 definitely agree! A lot of women think their hair is either unruly or bone straight because they’re not using the proper products and techniques for the hair pattern. I’m glad you found what works for your hair and I’m sure it’s beautiful!
fr! struggling rn bc all of my baby hairs/underneath hairs are like 3a but tighter, and everywhere else is like 2c or somewhere in between 2c and 3a bc it does spiral, albeit only the underneath, hairs, but the stupid top layer/scalp has issues curling. I use minimal products, and my hair is down to my butt so maybe that has something to do with it lol
The weight of long hair pulls the curls down to make waves, when it's shorter it gets curlier. It also helps to go to a curly hair specialist.
Every time I went to the hairdressers I had to wash and redo my hair until I found a specialist. For the first time ever I left the salon looking like I'd had my hair done lol and didn't have to do it again when I got home
People are still asking to touch my hair though and I'm old now lol

I think a LOT of us, no matter ancestry, didn’t know the curl-osity of our hairs because rocking a natural curl has been so frowned upon as far as it being “too wild” or somehow unprofessional 🙄
Personally I was relaxed until I was about 23, then grew it out and big chopped - now, I’d always known the hairs were technically curly because even with a FRESH super strength relaxer I was able to do the scrunching action on wet hair to coax a little wave into place.
But it most def wasn’t until I was fully natural and the hairs started coming in like newborn hair that I was like ➰👩🏾🦱➰👀 okayyyyy i see you 3c/4a! Curls straight from the root too, no stretching out with length over here 🤣🤣
Also funnily enough, my mom bc’d her relaxer out not long after I chopped because we have the same hair type and texture, now she wears a short cropped curly little TWA 🥰

I’ll be so happy when we can all decide to call wavy hair wavy hair (type 2), instead of curly (type 3), and people can stop feeling like it’s an insult.
“Wavy hair is a type of curly hair” is always said and this is true but why can’t we transition to calling it more specifically what it is- beautiful, wavy hair ❤️ instead of calling it curly just because it isn’t straight.
That way when you’re scrolling curly TikTok you can see curly hair, and you can scroll wavy TikTok to see most of these wavy hair videos 🙌🏻😊
I mean, I agree, but people are reacting to the negativity of the gate-keeping around curly hair. Wavy hair is factually a type of curl pattern, and a natural one. People act like its a manufactured texture to jump on a bandwagon and dismiss the struggles that people with looser curl patterns have dealt with to get to this point. I also refer to my hair as being "wavy," and would love to see it presented online as such, though. I end up just searching my specific curl pattern to find information.

This is definitely true, I have wavy hair not curly, but for so long I didn’t know I had waxy hair because of damage and bruising when dry
For 29 years I had no idea.. I had curly hair.
My mother dislikes her curls.
Our hair was down to our butts.
The hair care routine was:
Towel dry, then brushed hair till fully dry. I later flat ironed because of frizz and being poofy. To her dismay I cut it shoulder length, but due to flat ironing for all my highschool years believing heat protectants were bull. My curl was RIP gone. In 2017 a few years of having it short hair, I just air dried with no toweling, no brushing. I noticed my hair curled. So I started taking care of it.

"I have Curly Hair!!!"
Mom: Looks up from reading book. She scoffed "Well, I could've told you that."
Me: shocked that, all this time she knew. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Mom: Looks down, Licks her finger to flip page. Says in dismissive tone. "I don't like curly hair."
But I really think it's because she had no knowledge on how to care for her curls. So, she did what she knew to me.
Now I have 3b-3c curls.
I Absolutely LOVE my curls.
I personally didn't know i had curly hair, well on my childhood pictures i have some curls, but also it was the "norm" to brush them everyday (my mom didn't know better i guess since she has very straight hair, only my dad has curly hair but he shaves it so it's easy to take care of it...), so i think it damaged my pattern a little and also in high school everyone would straightened their hair and so did I (which damaged my hair even more), after that i noticed that i had waves in my hair but since i was doing a lot of bleaching i thought I had texture because of my extremely damaged hair and i only started to take care of my hair during lockdown and now i have beautiful curls that i'm learning to accept because in my mind it wasn't professional or it looked unkempt on me, but now i'm a proud curly girl !

I discovered I had curly hair once I started drying it by myself. According to my mom, leaving my hai natural made me look messy… so she would use a round brush and hair dryer 🤦🏻♀️
I am in my late 20s and am just now learning my hair is wavy/curly. My mother had straight hair and so we grew up learning to do hair like she did which was terrible for my hair. My hair ended up constantly being frizzy and a mess so I just kept my hair up in a bun at all times. I’m now learning everything I was taught to do was wrong and am on a journey to figure out how to take care of my hair correctly. I know SO MANY white women who are dealing with the same. Especially in 90s and early 2000s we were just told to straighten it and never learned how our hair was naturally.

When I was little I used to wear short hair because it was "easier " to do. I've always had very curly hair.
I wasn't good at doing my own hair until I was almost grown. By then I still had short curly hair. I learned about gel amd mousse in the 80s.
I even went to cosmetology school in the 80s and we did not learn a lot about curly hair other than use product and cut it off.
My hair also tends to frizz in humidity. The saddest childhood memory was being sent to the school nurse to be checked for lice. I was embarrassed and humiliated. I did not have lice. My hair was considered messy because it was so curly and frizzy.
Kids ruthlessly teased me about my hair. On picture day the kids tool all the afro picks and put them on my desk. We used to have a box of combs or picks. The black kids in school came to me because I had all the picks. They were nice to me because they knew the other white kids were picking on me. Maybe they felt a little pity.
I was in grade school in the 70s. It was Farah Faucet hair or Afros that were popular. Some whites wore Fros back then but they needed perms.
Now that I'm older and more educated on hair I rock my curly hair. Even though it's gray I still sport curly hair.

The thing about curly hair, so think type 3 and even type 2, is that a) it probably wasn't always there (mine curled up in puberty??) and b) if you don't put serious effort into making it curly as it is, and you brush it dry and use silicone shampoos and etc, it disappears completely and you're left with a frizzy shapeless mass

Mine came in much later. I always had some wave when my hair was blonde. My hair became wavier as my hair became redder in high school. I used to wonder what the coarse brassy hair I was finding among the fine blonde hairs was. It took me a long time to figure it out because crappy hair texture is connected to thyroid disease, which I was diagnosed with when I was 20. I legitimately thought my dry, frizzy hair was a sign that my thyroid levels were off!

Curly hair or really any hair type shouldn't need excessive products and a lot of scrunching to make the hair curly. And I want to add that it's like on the 4c end we're told that our hair needs product to get perfect curls which is how its' supposed to look like but your hair type is what it looks like dry with no product or manipulation. these girls need products and manipulation to make the hair barely get a texture. no hate but I dont see curly I see waves.
Honestly some people with wavy hair just make me sad. When your scrunching, diffusing, keeping your hair on the shorter side, using loads of gel, using hair root pins, finger coiling every piece just to make your hair somewhat spiral, its clear you dont like your actual texture and are trying to manipulate it to something it will never be :(

some of these comments are judging people for scrunching their hair? looser wave/curl patterns need certain things if you want to avoid the straight poofy hair look lol. also many of us wavies grew up dry-brushing our hair, which is very damaging, bc we didn't know better. i'm glad there's more info on how to take of loose curls/waves now bc more people can enjoy healthy hair and wear it out without heat damaging constantly

We didn't know our hair was curly because 2/3 a-c curls fall out if you don't ever care for them. Wrong brush, or air drying with no moisture, my hair looks just like hers. I knew I had wavy hair, from seeing it wet...but I had zero idea I could have amazing bouncy curly hair without a perm or iron, but after just 2 months on this journey, my hair has never looked better, and my curl pattern is unlike what I ever knew it was capable of. We really didn't know. Straight hair is the standard of beauty for both races. And if you have no one to teach you even basic true hair care. It's here's a bottle of pert plus, some head and shoulders, and a 50¢ bottle of vo5 conditioner, until I was old enough to get herbal essences. I had no clue what's currently under my satin bonnet was there.
I’m black with frizzy hair and I’d always have my hair either braided or straight. When I have my hair natural it gets tangled so easily and when I ask the hair stylist if I could have my hair out natural he said it’ll take forever to dry. But next time I go to the hair salon I’m gonna ask for my hair out natural, I’m so excited! 😁
I’ve seen this same thing happen with so many white people I know, including myself and my siblings. My hair is not naturally curly but it is def wavy and I just never grew up with products and a routine that worked for me. I always thought my hair was just messy and frizzy but once I learned to care for it right I had beautiful waves

I remember growing up and hating my hair I only wore it down when I was straightening it. My mother had straight hair and she only taught me to put lemon on my hair if I wanted to lay my hair down. I had asked her if she can buy me some hair gel because my hair would be layed down with water so by the time it dried at school it was a mess. Everyone made fun of my hair. I had no idea how to take care of it. Getting a haircut was a horrible experience too because they either cut it too short or uneven. I was told by many that a lot of certain haircuts I wanted wouldn't look good on my type of hair. I was also told I had frizzy poofy hair so my everyday thing was the hair straightener. It never crossed my mind or anyone else's mind that I might just have wavy or curly hair. The only decent haircut I got was with a lady that thinned out my hair. It felt so light and easier to maintain. I admit I still don't take good care of my hair. I probably just have wavy hair, but at this point it's really hard to put down the hot tools 😫.

Hated that I had to search curly hairstyles to natural hairstyles to 4c hairstyles all to find someone who had the same hair pattern as me. And now even the 4ctypehair tags have been filled with people who are do where near 4c. I know people don't really like hair-typing but it's a godsend for the beginners out there who want to find some recommendations for their hair care regimes

I’ve noticed that tighter curl patterns don’t have to do much scrunching or manipulation for the hair to curl up. I think some women are forcing this idea of having curly hair because they’re trying to separate themselves from whiteness because it’s trendy right now. *don’t fight me because I know how you girls like to tussle* lol I don’t mean any harm or mean to offend, but just something I’m noticing.
That’s exactly what it is. You shouldn’t have to do the most and it’s nothing to manipulate straight hair into a wave when it’s wet.
Firstly, every person in this video has some variation of curly hair. Curly could simply mean not straight, or it could take on the more specific definition (i.e., type 3’s). Secondly, “separate themselves from whiteness”? Because white people can’t have naturally curly hair?

My hair looks straight when it's wet as well. My curls are 3a/3b. I didn't know how to style my curls until high school. Had to learn on my own because I'm the only one in my family with curly hair. No I'm not adopted, I look like my dad but have my mom's coloring lol

You have to use a product like Frizz Ease plus a diffuser on hairdryer to go from frizzy to loose curls. Scrunching with product is a must. A perm on white hair actually curls it, those with stick straight hair hate it and want it curly (loose curls) those with curly (frizzy) want straight.

I got 3a hair and that I felt that first one haha. A looooot of us white curly girls had that experience cuz like we werent taught how much our hair needed moisture and conditioning. Once I started taking care of it (and yesssss diffusers are GREAT) the curls POPPPED. Before that I just thought it was frizzy.
Ugh I have always loved curly hair. My mom has beautiful 3A-3B hair and I always thought it was so pretty and wished I had curly hair too. She ended up getting a very short pixie cut a few years ago because she was so sick of trying to style it and having hair dressers mess up her hair though. :( It looks really good, it's just sad that it's sometimes hard for people with curly hair to find the right people to cut it without botching it.

I don’t think ol girl was necessarily talking about shrinkage, but more so the difference between the hair-length after straightening. I have 4a hair I guess but my hair is long, when I straighten my hair, people swear I am wearing a wig or extensions. Or they assume my hair is so long due to being mixed, like curls and coils do shrink due to general physics. Her hair may be 10 inches today, but when sis (or bros) gets a silk Press, it’s 16 inches.
I didnt know I had curly hair, only broken and bushy hair cuz my hair was relaxed to oblivion .. it wasn't until I was broke in college that I saw the squiggly shapes my strands created and found that the ugly hairs I had was hiding my beautiful squiggly lines hair also known as curly hair.

The 1st girl probably thought her hair was frizzy and did many antifrizziness stuff , e.g blow dry alot, flat iron etc only for her hair to puff.
This is 100% my experience all through childhood and teens. So much money spent on straightening products, shine serums, and anti-frizz serums for nothing but frizz and poof and random bends and curls everywhere.

It’s sad so many people are bothered by people having to scrunch their hair to get a shape. There’s nothing wrong with that. Stop acting like type 4 is superior cause we don’t have to do much just cause our hairs already curly. We have to take our time just like they do. They may have a few extra steps and there’s nothing wrong with that.
As a white girl, it was literally watching people like you that made me embrace my hair. (3a) ((I always felt like an “outsider”)) so I’m not comparing struggles that those with kinky gorgeous hair go through (I can only dream) but for literally decades the only thing we did was blow dry and straighten our hair, then re-curl it with an iron. Like. Why? My hair is so much longer and healthier since I’ve learnt how to do it. From a child it was blown straight and ALWAYS a frizzy uncontrollable knotty mess. Guess what, if I do it right, it actually looks nice. 🤦♀️ we ALL need to learn how to work with what we have and not try and change it unnecessarily! I think that goes for everything. We always want what we can’t have (like, I love your hair, but I wasn’t blessed that way) and after watching this I wish I hadn’t just straightened my hair out (it’s too cold to be sitting with wet hair at the moment, so I’ve resorted to the lazy blow-dry) !! 💜

I have curly hair and didn't know til I was about 22. My mother is Irish with dead straight hair and my father is aboriginal (Australian) and disappeared before I left the cradle. My mum didn't know what to do with my hair so I used products she used. My hair was super dry frizzy and snapping constantly I shaved my head cause I couldn't stand losing clumps every day. When it started to grow back I noticed it was wavy and switched products to things designed for curls (which is really hard in Australia) and now I love my curls.
I have super giant dry curly hair and am always on the hunt for new products. I bought some melanin like stuff and am looking for tips but your video caught my eye!
With white girls, we aren’t taught to take care of wavy hair. Our moms brush it straight when we get out of the shower and it just flips in weird ways instead of waving. Most don’t know they have wavy hair patterns. My mom and sister refuse to acknowledge that they do but I’ve embraced mine I have 2B 2C waves and my daughter has 2C on top 3A curls everywhere else, she’s half Filipino.

Sad that some comments are saying white girls are doing this to get away from their whiteness. The curly girl method has helped so many people manage their frizzy hair and understand that it may be wavy or curly. We should be proud that we have helped other women with understanding their hair type.
I have thick and curly hair , i honestly like to braid it cuz i HATE when it gets more thick like its so annoying, but i love the curls
