      I watched this movie my sophomore year of high school. I played from 3rd grade until my senior year, D Tackle. Head contact every play just like he said in this movie. Never had a concussion never even had a headache after any of the games. When on to play 1 season in D2 and quit after the first year because I have other plans. Realized football wasn’t gonna last much longer so I figured why keep going. CTE is real for sure. But all these people playing football know that but they’re passionate about the game so don’t take that from them. Who tf is anybody to tell someone what they can and can’t do with their life. These people are sitting at home alive, while everyone passionate about playing footbalm live! are out there living. Let them live!

      Makes no sense for a multi-billions compagnie to not protect his best assets...the players ! That is not good economy or good for the image of the league...In hockey, when a player suffer a potential concussion in a game, the new rules remove him from the entire period to test him...if he fail, he is remove from the game for his safety...They should do something similar in football after a certain amount of hit in a game...That way the players would play a longer and more spectacular carrer and if they have a concussion, that would give a chance for new players to play ( which could give us great discovery !! )...It would be great for the league ! They have to do more !

I took some beatings back in 05 and 06 (high school) and after watching this movie and looking up on CTE, I'm a little scared of what could possibly happen down the road. I am going to put it in my WILL that if I ever start showing symptoms like these I want my brain to be donated so my fam can get answers and, if possible, to put me down so I don't have to suffer this sad disease. I would rather die quiet and peacefully rather than a painful heart attack or suicide.

To them it might seem like he is talking mad trash or is talking down to them when he is really telling the truth from obvious studies. These doctors might also be NFL doctors because they are hiding the fact that this exist. If the doctors were to release their studies to the media aswell they would receive about 100 law suits from the NFL for slander also.

      Hopefully the future of football is to become more like rugby, no helmets, a lot less padding, proper tackling form, etc... you'd think it would be more dangerous, but it's actually a lot safer than football. If you spearhead your head into someone else, it will hurt you, and you won't do it again, so it forces you to tackle right. Helmets allow you to spearhead and while it doesn't "hurt hurt", it still causes the brain to bounce around and shake you up, breaking itself down over time as the hits keep coming, with the worst being linemen banging their helmets against each other every snap.

Sophomore year was my last year playing, I stopped before moving on to varsity. He never said so, but I think my dad was actually relieved. My son is a lot taller than I was, but still pretty skinny. As a big film enthusiast who appreciates quality acting when I see it, I can't say this performance is particularly impressive. I'll admit I'm not a big Will Smith fan to begin with but besides that, I simply never bought him as the humble, ambitious Nigerian doctor Omalu was.
      Even ignoring his rather unconvincing accent, I couldn't help but wonder what an actor of African decent would have done in the role: My mind goes to someone like Daniel Kaluuya, or even better David Oyelowo. Smith hits the right notes with this performance but its nothing I haven't seen him do before, or anything I couldn't imagine someone else doing better.
      So in terms of it being oscar worthy?.. I say no. I did like him more than Eddie Redmayne's nominated work in "The Danish Girl", but thats not saying much since I don't hold either performance in high regard. And as far as the "oscars so white" movement that swept that year, I do think there was a worthy black nominee in the crowd.. Michael B Jordan for "Creed".

    I love Will Smith, I truly do. But I disagree with the people that say he "nailed" his Nigerian accent. I was born in North America and I don't exactly have a Nigerian accent because of where I was raised, but I'm not white, I came from a Nigerian background. So I would know a Nigerian accent when I hear it. Most of the people that will agree with the people who say he nailed his Nigerian accent are the people that have either never heard a Nigerian speak or the people that don't come from an African background.

    • @mideibk4108
      @mideibk4108 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't think he particularly nailed his nigerian accent but watching the trailer and just by hearing him speak in the movie before i realized the character he's playing was based off a nigerian man, i could tel he was trying to imitate a nigerian accent so i would say he did a pretty solid job. there are parts where he loses the accent but it just add to the authenticity more than anything because there are times when you're able to pronounce some words more "american" like. also, i grew up in nigeria and spent nine years of my life there before immigrating to canada. while my nigerian accent has significantly reduced, my parents have not so im still pretty much surrounded by it.

      Rules are much different now than they were back then. Quarterbacks today enjoy a long and prosperous career even in the NFL. Its the safest position in football second to kickers and punters. Just dont tell him to run the ball and tell him to make sure he braces for impact when someone's trying to hit him. Blindside hits are the most dangerous.

Football is exactly how Dr. Omalu described: An unremitting storm of sub-concussive blows. People think that the big hits are the main problem but its the quantity of smaller hits that do arguably worse damage to the brain over time. Football can try to take the “big hits” out of the game but the sub-concussive blows will always be a part of the game. You cannot justify that football is safe nor will it ever become safe. Football has killed too many men for me to support it ever again. Dr. Omalu said it best, “God did not intend for us to play football.”

    Just think back when Ronny Lott and Steve Atwater and that big hitter with Oakland Hayes (I think) and Taylor with the giants and so many more use to live for destroying receivers and backs all for the fans and the love of the game , I like what Bo Jackson said if asked by a athlete what sport to excel at and he said golf or baseball

    Football helmet technology is so much better than it was back then. Risks are still there but they are significantly lower than they were back then
