Precaution would say yes, take it easy on the headbanging. I would imagine you would have to headbang quite vigorously to shake your brain around but why take the risk lol.
It's probably smarter to take it easy with headbanging. Also, be cautious when going into mosh pits. I got one from a five finger death punch pit back in 2014, so my moshing days were ended early :(

Post Concussive Syndrome is very dangerous. My friend turned blind because they hit their head 3 years ago and one day she just collapsed and next thing we know, she cant move and became blind. Doctors couldn't figure it out, they thought it was because of the lump on her head but turns out it was benign and developed quite some time already for 3 years (based on size) and that's when they realized that it probably was from a head concussion 3 years ago
@@justincren8259 it did not. It just happened. Her head felt numb then the next day she's blind. You could even say that it was "instant" in a way, which adds another layer of scary and danger to it. When I was about twelve, I fell down from a pony on my head once. I immediately got back up and continued riding. Later I blacked out completely and forgot the rest of my ride in its entirety. I was diagnosed with a mild concussion. In the year after, I had migraines every week, which got less and less in the years after. I still wonder if the two are connected or whether they can even be connected.
They were probably connected, but as long as a doctor has seen no serious damage on an MRI you should (emphasis on should) be fine with no long term issues. Disclaimer: This statement by me does not constitute professional medical advice. If you suspect you have a medical condition seek treatment from a licensed medical professional.
I hit my head in February and brushed it off, but then recently I’ve had no energy and felt tired all the time and my head was hurting. Doctor said I have a concussion which surprised me because it’s been months. I did a CT scan and it’s all good
I got a mild concussion this summer, the last week of school actually. Like literally on a Monday. It was a work injury, I pulled open a cupboard in the break room to get a glass for water. Now, usually there is a bit of resistance when opening it because there was something on top of the cupboard, I don’t remember what exactly, so I’ve learned to pay a little resistance no mind. This time, however, someone thought it was a great idea to put 4 liters of hand sanitizer in one of those box thingys you put dishes into in an industrial dishwasher. Thing is made out of hard plastic. It fell right on top of my head. Boom, mild concussion. I called the local non-emergency health line. The nurse on the other end went “yeah, no. You gotta get someone to come get you from work and then stay under surveillance at home for 24 hours.” Needless to say my mom had child sick for the first time in many years the following day. A mild concussion for me was constant and pounding headache for days. I mostly slept and/or listened to podcasts, because you can’t look at screens or read unless you want a chance of chronic headaches. So yeah, no. I had frequent and long-lasting headaches for a month or two afterwards, they’re mostly gone now. I look up on top of that cupboard every time now.
I was a victim of a high speed motorcycle accident where I was hit from behind, I had a mild concussion and after my anxiety and depression has gotten profoundly worse. I've never actively considered calling the helpline number, cuz it's never been out of my control. Here since, there have been multiple times where I have felt like I can't control it, it's scaring me.
Was in the hospital 4 months from a TBI, a hit to the head so hard, it broke my top two neck vertebrae-amazing how the brain can rewire itself, over time. Through top-rate trauma care & rehabilitation, I was able to camouflage my abnormality (which was already there), and fortunately, all my higher-functions were restored fully-I was already a total weirdo, so ultimately, very little has changed 😈
I’ve had one of those lower class concussions with the slow symptoms. They didn’t believe I was truly concussed. The school nurse simply called my dad, let him know, and I continued on through the school day. I never went to the doctor for it. I’m fine now, but no one ever believed me
FIFA as well, Soccer calls for players to quite regurarly use their heads to strike a fast moving 1 lb (about half a kilogram) ball with their heads and collisions are quite common as well.
NFL is the most boring sport on Earth anyway. Hard to see how anybody even gets injured in gridiron since the ball is never in play for more than 5 seconds.
@@TheAtkey i think it depends on the position and role as well. Center backs and target man strikers heads the ball more often compared to defensive midfielders or full backs
I've recently recovered from pcs. It took me 8 months to fully recover, I still have anxiety which is slowly going by itself. If anyone has pcs who is reading this I know it's hard but you will recover eventually.
I had a concussion once when I fainted from dehydration and headbutted a stone wall while I was falling down. The middle of my vision became blurry and it grew until I couldn't see anything. It fixed itself within minutes and I was too dazed to be worried at the time.

one time I got a concussion and it went untreated, not because I didn't want to get help or it wasn't important enough, ( I literally blacked out so it was a very big deal) but it was because I was 9 and my parents thought I was fine and just needed sleep, it did go away but I've had memory problems ever since
Sad my mom didn't fully recover from her concussion in a minor car accident. She didn't look like she was physically hurt when she went to the hospital. She tried to explain she might have a concussion but no one believed her. Now she can't even remember the fun things we did.
Be careful doing stuff, even if its something usually safe. My brother got a concussion of a trampoline. Not on the edge, it didn’t stretch to the ground, it was the bouncing part and he just couldn’t stand up for more than 5 seconds afterwards
so true bruh I was literally just riding my small electric dirt bike today and drove down the stairs with it, I felt my brain bounce around and now I'm lightheaded and dizzy
It is amazing to me how many people on the internet and that I know in real life, including in my family, are beginning to reckon with the persistent changes in their identity that have resulted from what we call minor head injuries. I too have been concussed and I never was able to reconcile the difference between what it meant to me and how it was acknowledged by those around me. Recovery can take years, and a great deal of support. It remains a major turning point in my life, and how it affected my behavior now strongly informs how I perceive the behavior of others. How did what is clearly a major aspect of life go under reported for so many hundreds of years? I'm very grateful for all the work scientist and doctors have done to expose this hidden disease. We need to re-examine our relationship with sports, particularly kids' sports, and remove the needless violence that we now know is really harmful.
What could be done to repair damages or subconcussions? I’ve played soccer, gone snowboarding and fallen, and have definitely noticed increased difficulty remembering, thinking and concentrating, and am much more agitated. Any suggestions?
Your description sounds more like chemical imbalance tbh, most cases of depression and/or anxiety start with memory and concentration issues. I would suggest you talk to a doctor and run some exams.
I've only ever suffered one concussion in my life, it was a very minor concussion, and it was still very intensely uncomfortable.....I felt sick for days and days afterward.
As a rather clumsy kid who could be pretty oblivious to her surroundings, I had quite a few concussions and close calls. I'm mildly impressed I never had any long term damage FROM THAT.
This is exactly why I have chosen to stop watching all forms of American football -- NFL and college. I simply do not want to encourage people to play that sport as it is currently played, by choosing to give my viewership to it, which in turn, leads to higher revenues for the sport and its players. CTE is responsible for an enormous amount of suffering, including suicides and homicides. American football needs to change. I used to watch the NFL avidly every week. Now that I don't watch it, I no longer miss it, and I have a lot more time for doing other things.

several months ago, i had a very much possible concussion at school(hit my head on hard pavement). i had a few symptoms like fatigue, blurry vision, and headache. i hit my head very hard, it felt like a huge jolt of pain vibrating through my body. the guy who caused the concussion had a concussion of his own shortly after. he got lots of attention and was diagnosed, while i was untreated, and i don't think anyone cared after i sat up. again, i wasn't diagnosed so i am not 100% sure it was a concussion, but i believe it is. each time i get hit in the head whether it's serious or not, and even in my thoughts and daydreams, that entire traumatic experience replays in a matter of seconds followed by fear and envy this might be a bit of a long read, but i really need to figure out what's going on

Watching this makes me so sad😪😔 Watching this 16 years after suffering from a concussion. The fact that I still suffer severe memory loss n struggle to remember things n deal with changes in mood daily is heartbreaking💔. At one point I even had suicidal thoughts but I've overcame them because I choose to live, to deal with my illness, n fight every single day because what happened to me could happen to anyone. My life is far from normal but somehow I have been trying my best to live as normal as I can. People will make rude comments or judge but u have to be in my shoe to know what I'm going through. You have no idea how hard my life is because of a concussion that I suffered at a young age. To anyone out there that have suffered a concussion I know it's not easy because I live it (still am) but it's going to b ok. U just have to find a way to live with it n try to adapt to this new normal. Please try to stay positive n try to ignore those who judge cuz they've never been in ur shoe to know what it's like living with a concussion✌💞💕
I hit my head a couple days ago and haven't been able to blanance since. I've been light headed and fatigued as well, fighting fainting spells regularly and all day. I've been consuming energy drinks and carbs in attempts to fight this as 8 still have work everyday. I haven't been able to tell if this is serious and I should see a doctor or if it's better that I wait for my day off and see how a day of rest effects me as opposed to a day of running around as I'm at work for 8+ hours a day in a grocery store.
I got a minor concussion one Halloween when I ran into a plank hanging off a truck. Not fun believe me. I blacked out initially and had a headache. I was mostly just freaked out and pretty scared. I had a headache like every day for two weeks until it finally fell off.
I was in a bike accident 6 years ago and suffered a mild concussion. Even now I can't remember the events of the day of the accident. The last I can remember of that day is seeing a white pickup truck, as I was crossing a street, driving towards me on my right at about 30-35mph. I felt the impact which was like being hit by a sledgehammer but 10 times worse. The next thing I remember is waking up the next morning a bit confused.
Within the same week me and my brother both had a concussion. My brother dove into our coffee table, he didn’t really complain much. So none of us thought much of it. Although I could tell he acted quite odd. The next morning he had a rare form of a seizure his hand only shook and I heard him drop his toothbrush 2 times. I just thought he was being clumsy first grader, so I thought nothing of it. At school that day he had seizure during lunch, I watched the entire thing. And I was crying. I was in 3rd grade and I was traumatized.. Shortly after I was on a trampoline and I hit my head near the metal pole, but I didn’t tough any metal but I had gotten very dizzy, and I started crying and I ran home and left my bike at my neighbors house. My concussion wasn’t that bad compared to my brother. And within that same week my dad had an allergic reaction to shellfish. And is entire family was in Virginia without him. He didn’t die tho. But yeah, my story that happened all within a week.
Worst sports injury I ever received was a concussion. I was an outfielder in baseball, and ended up slamming into a metal fencepost. Took a week to recover from the most apparent symptoms, but as I was 16 I didn't know how to advocate for myself and ended up "just sticking it out". Thankfully I recovered but to this day can't stand flashing lights (even a camera flash is painful) and get the rare day-long headache. Head injuries are no joke, and I can't wait for the day disorders of the brain and mind get the respect and attention they deserve.

Saw the movie "Concussion", it is the story of Dr. Omalu's discovery. It took me some research to understand it, I wish this short video was made then!
Unfortunately he has turned out to be a charlatan and a shameless self promoter. I was so disappointed because he seemed heroic at first.
The sound effects really make the video come to life
you explained this better than my doctor. I had such a minor bump I couldn't understand why I got such a bad concussion from it, and it bothered me for nearly 2 years!
Concussions and other brain injuries are so unpredictable.
I love how although the begging is depressing it ends up with something more positive.
Some of the best animation yet, impressive for Ted standards!

What i wonna know is, should i stop headbanging to music?
Dylan Roberts I guess headbanging is basically putting your brain in a jar and shaking it a lot.
Dylan Roberts I came down here to comment that lol. But really, should we?
Precaution would say yes, take it easy on the headbanging. I would imagine you would have to headbang quite vigorously to shake your brain around but why take the risk lol.
It's your choice. It's not worse than playing football. But not better either.
It's probably smarter to take it easy with headbanging. Also, be cautious when going into mosh pits. I got one from a five finger death punch pit back in 2014, so my moshing days were ended early :(
Thank you for this! I had a concussion early 2020. Experienced extreme depression later that year, headaches, lack of sleep, anxiety, etc. and then erratic behaviors(never before). I will now thank you my doc.

umm, soccer? you are allowed to hit the ball with your head (not even going to mention people hitting your head by mistake). basket ball is by far the safest as far as your head is concerned.
Did 2 years of football 2 years of wrestling, martial arts as a kid and i got my 1st consussion by doing flips on a trampoline. It's funny that people blame barbaric sports like football for concussions when it really can happen doing anything.

Wow
I just got my concussion by banging my head in my locker door.

Council V1 While yes you’re right , concussions can be caused by anything. Playing sports greatly amplifies the chances of receiving a concussion.
The animation in this, especially at 1:25 is just beautiful and so well done.

I had a concussion yesterday, thanks for telling me it fully heals :P
This video is amazing, not just the content itself but the quality and synced animations are really cool. Kudos to the editing team :)

As a person suffering with PCS for 11 months, this video is very scary
William Burnette when I was in high school I had PCS for around 2 years. But, I'm now a senior in college with a 3.72 GPA, finishing my degree in biology and applying for my doctorate. After my concussion I failed all my classes and almost didn't graduate so, there's hope!
Same! I’m 37 and it’s been a year. I’m still struggling big time. Even at thanksgiving someone said, how can you still blame that on your concussion (7th one I’ve had)
Update?
@@TheBushRanger. Wow crazy to think I posted this 4 years ago. My daily headaches lasted somewhere from 11-13 months post concussion. However, other effects are still with me today. I don't feel nearly as sharp mentally as I did before. My balance and athletic ability are all but gone. I have also developed almost a different personality. I feel like a part of me died when I had my concussion, and it's pretty sad when I think about it. PCS sucks, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but you gotta just deal with your new life and try to make the best of your situation.
How did it progressivley get worse?
@@justincren8259 it did not. It just happened. Her head felt numb then the next day she's blind. You could even say that it was "instant" in a way, which adds another layer of scary and danger to it.
Sadly, she can't tell us about it anymore :((
She went blind, crippled, total bed ridden, unable to form cohesive words, totally silent, then eternal rest. May God lead her soul to Him 🙏
I agree with many others' comments: top-notch animation and overall a great video! Can’t wait to show to my students 👍🏻

I hit my head in February and brushed it off, but then recently I’ve had no energy and felt tired all the time and my head was hurting. Doctor said I have a concussion which surprised me because it’s been months. I did a CT scan and it’s all good
What a relief! Glad you’re ok!
Wow this video makes me think deeply about my brain and how I should treat it 🧠🧠🧠
All this information is giving me a headache >_

Aydens adventures bin I get you typed with a concussion but concussion*
I’m fine now, but no one ever believed me
I have all those symptoms. Had them for over 5 years now. ESPECIALLY the anxiety and depression part.
The NFL is going to want this video removed
FIFA as well, Soccer calls for players to quite regurarly use their heads to strike a fast moving 1 lb (about half a kilogram) ball with their heads and collisions are quite common as well.
NFL is the most boring sport on Earth anyway. Hard to see how anybody even gets injured in gridiron since the ball is never in play for more than 5 seconds.
@@TheAtkey i think it depends on the position and role as well. Center backs and target man strikers heads the ball more often compared to defensive midfielders or full backs

Wow this is so insightful, and I just love the animation and narration.

Sorry
Smoking weed is the solution
Your description sounds more like chemical imbalance tbh, most cases of depression and/or anxiety start with memory and concentration issues. I would suggest you talk to a doctor and run some exams.
talk to a doctor and don‘t ask youtube.
You know - you will not meet an expert in a video where basic knoledge is being shared.
I've only ever suffered one concussion in my life, it was a very minor concussion, and it was still very intensely uncomfortable.....I felt sick for days and days afterward.
im going threw this right now day 4, cant get up cuz i feel sick, when should i return to soccer?
Amazing learning and info! Although I am only 10 I watch your videos everyday!
As a rather clumsy kid who could be pretty oblivious to her surroundings, I had quite a few concussions and close calls. I'm mildly impressed I never had any long term damage FROM THAT.

This is so informative, thanks Ted- Ed
I loved the animation in this one!

I'm so afraid right now, trembling. I sometimes bash my head with my own palm when i get mad in videogames, i do it about 6 times once every few weeks due to rage and I don't want to have destroyed my life or doomed it because of it :((
several months ago, i had a very much possible concussion at school(hit my head on hard pavement). i had a few symptoms like fatigue, blurry vision, and headache. i hit my head very hard, it felt like a huge jolt of pain vibrating through my body. the guy who caused the concussion had a concussion of his own shortly after. he got lots of attention and was diagnosed, while i was untreated, and i don't think anyone cared after i sat up. again, i wasn't diagnosed so i am not 100% sure it was a concussion, but i believe it is. each time i get hit in the head whether it's serious or not, and even in my thoughts and daydreams, that entire traumatic experience replays in a matter of seconds followed by fear and envy
this might be a bit of a long read, but i really need to figure out what's going on

Chill out dear concussion itself get cured within months until unless you are suffering from PCS , you are completely normal ,

I have a question what are the symptoms of a grade 2 concussion and do you lose consciousness
It’s been 2 years, but hope you are all right. Did you heal ok? Sorry you didn’t get to rest after your injury.

I got a minor concussion one Halloween when I ran into a plank hanging off a truck. Not fun believe me.
I blacked out initially and had a headache. I was mostly just freaked out and pretty scared. I had a headache like every day for two weeks until it finally fell off.
The sound effects make the animation even better
im tall. i just jumped and hit my head VERY hard on the roof. i can feel it bleeding yet i did nothing. AND HERE I AM😩
