Man, that brought back a lot of good memories for me,Thanks!. I had the other variations of the Turbo Trains though, (HO scale train track). Recently i found a couple sets of the first run /release trains...paid 10 bucks for them. For humor and nostalgia, i converted them to run on my train layout. They still run crazy fast. If I'm not mistaken, the set you have....you should be able to replace the motors themselves, with newer standard Afx slot racing motors if they are not as fast as when new. I don't think they cost much, even today.

The tires are probably no longer soft enough to grip the track and therefore loose speed and power up the hills. Find a safe cleaner for them. (Clorox and water 20 to 50%) Replace the tires and maybe light oil on any moving part but not the power tires area.
Adam Dennis , right on! I ended up switching the tires around (essentially rotating), and the red one stopped jumping. Also made a couple little changes to the track. It is now running at a very manageable fun level- but yeah, I’ll need some tires and contacts by next Christmas when we get it out again!
Like- the 80’s stuff. Yes. Cliffhangers, and other tyco tracks from then do connect. That black piece in this track is stolen from another TYCO track from the 80’s/early 90’s. I don’t think the new AFX stuff works with it.

los trenes turbo funcionaron bastante, pero actualizamos los vagones.

I would check your Traction tires and also lubricated your train cars
