I am SO DAMN GLAD I discovered Hiromi in my lifetime! She is probably as perfect as anything can get. Soulful, expressive, technically flawless... I'm glad I found her.

That has got to be one of the best musical performances of all time. People that don't play the piano don't realize how excruciatingly difficult it is to play rapid passages softly and not miss a note. Its mind bogglingly difficult! The delicacy she extracts out of that piano is beyond comprehension. (Its a Yamaha after all, not renowned for their sensitivity like some Steinway's and Bosendorfer's are so this makes this performance all the more unbelievable). And the phrasing - just utterly flawless. Its like the melodies bypass the meager limitations of the mind and align themselves to our very soul.

I did cry the first time I heard this song.
And I think it is hard not to do it, one of the most beautiful piano solo ever.
    Amazing.

In my opinion, Hiromi is one of the vary rare musicians who has dominated the Jazz to include a deep emotion emitted naturally specially when the artist is young and non-american. We always have related pure Jazz to be originated from New Orleans, Louisiana. The duet with Chick Corea demonstrates the capabilities of Hiromi's improvisation. A superb talent ....

In Hiromi's improvisations the whole musical history of the last 300 years flows in: Bach, Handel, Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Louis Armstrong, Charly Parker, Oskar Peterson, Eroll Garner, Bill Evens, Mc. Coy Tyner, Chick Corea, Herby Hancock, Cecil Taylor, and many others. Nevertheless, Hiromi has created his own style and in my opinion contributed to a new development in jazz:
She received a classical piano education at a young age and of course elements of classical music are incorporated into her improvisations. It is not for nothing that European "classical music" is now celebrating success throughout the world, because it unites the three most important elements of music understood by all the people of the world: rhythm, melody and sound (Rhythm, Melody and Groove, to use the words of jazz musicians). At this point: "Many thanks to the teachers of Hiromi" who have certainly heard very quickly that not only can she move her fingers very fast, but she also plays with soul and supports and encourages her the ability to improvise, compose and arrange to have.
Such teacher needs our world! And thanks to Chick Corea, who recognized her talent and made her known worldwide. Elvin Jones once said that the legendary "John Coltrane Quartet" was always about survival. Hiromi also always plays for her life. Depending on that, she laughs or cries.
    Hiromi: I love your playing.

I think that is a very astute observation! I read (or heard her say) that this song is about how we all have a purpose, a "place to be" in life, and nothing fulfills her more than performing her music for an audience and connecting with them. So she's actually experiencing what she wrote the song about as she performs it!

This piece reinvigorated my love of piano music.
I get that ppl can be/get turned off by head-sway/and other things and it can look "fake", or distracting, to each their own. To me Hiromi is being genuine and isn't afraid if it looks "off" ironically, which makes it even more real. If you don't want to see a musician's expression, just close your eyes and listen. =)
Hiromi can play as/with so many different styles and people that it's mind-boggling. One of the biggest things in this piece for me is how she seems to use the tools in her arsenal to create musical imagery, take those scales someone mentions towards the end. To someone coldly listening looking for technical improv (something jazzy), it may seem bland, but through imagery one could imagine raindrops falling into- a storm/downpour- as someone searches for their "Place to be", and its beautiful.

    • @swilhelm3180
      @swilhelm3180 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I find it distracting but its easy to close your eyes. That's all the matters anyways. If we did that to pop music much of it would be laughable.

Beautiful music played by an incredible musician... Wonderful, awesome! It's the kind of music that makes you feel a better person and hope for better days. The melody and the way she articulates the whole song with such sensitivity give me the goose bumps. The final is played with such finesse and gentleness and leaves me with such peace... Goose bumps again!

In Hiromis Improvisationen fließt die ganze Musikgeschichte der letzten 300 Jahre ein:
Bach, Händel, Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Strawinsky, Louis Armstrong, Charly Parker, Oskar Peterson, Eroll Garner, Bill Evens, Mc.
    Solche Lehrer braucht unsere Welt!
    Hiromi: I love your Playing

What does that even mean... "It sounds like a demo." ??
First, the piano-playing is beyond beautiful. It uses the touchof someone who feels every reverberation of the string, the body, the keys, the pedal. The sheer control she exhibits is perfect.
And the emotion is in the piece. If you can't feel it watching this, then listen without watching the video.
If you think this sounds like a demo, sure. Every demo pianist I've heard showcasing an exquisite piano is a concert/examiner-level pianist
